"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”
Stalling his pig-faced opponent was now completely unnecessary for Gray, since the doctor surprisingly left Snake-man almost completely immobile with a quick combination of two attacks. Gray was not entirely shocked to see such unexpected combat potential from someone so driven by the need for craven self-preservation. He was satisfied with his decision to have waited until he had witnessed Tony’s capacity to survive. That is, until the doctor decided his present company was not worth the trouble.

As soon as the doctor prepared to take his leave, Gray’s brows furrowed, clearly irritated by Tony’s quick change of heart after his very first inconvenient encounter since their deal was made. As Pigface turned his head in astonishment towards his stunned comrade, Gray used the opportunity to finish the fight.

[Crash]

Gray manipulated both the magnitude and the direction of the pressure surrounding both his foes, as his powers allowed him, and threw his two opponents together into one another headfirst. He charted this collision to take place directly in front of the escaping doctor, who was still within a hundred meters of his current position. The crash caused both of the spies to be knocked out in a single blow, their temples severely battered and bleeding from the impact. Gray’s fury was emanating from him as if it were a solid substance. His heavy steps marched ominously toward the doctor, if he were now standing still. And if Tony were to attempt escape, Gray would sprint after him, placing himself between the doctor and his escape route. Having intercepted the coward, Gray glared with burning intensity at the escapee and folded his arms with an intimidating grunt.

”You seem to have forgotten our agreement, doctor.” His voice was monotonous and void of emotion, speaking volumes of his disappointment. ”Or maybe I wasn’t clear enough earlier. Allow me to speak your language then.” His robotic finger pointed at the intoxicated camels, who were aimlessly staring into the dirty wastelands completely unaffected by the violent fight that had ensued just moments before. ”Either you fulfill your end of our bargain...” His finger then redirected itself towards the doctor, and a bright white light began to charge through its tip. ”...Or I bury you alive in the sand to avenge myself.” Asphyxiation was a terrible way to go, and he hoped his stoic and threatening figure was convincing enough to change the craven’s mind. Since he himself knew better than anyone, that his threat was almost entirely a bluff; a well-acted bluff, but a bluff nonetheless.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

on Wed Nov 16, 2016 11:10 pm
Richard had barely turned his back to all the chaos when suddenly the two agents crashed right in front of him. Admittedly that was worrying, but there was no reason to panic... While the getaway route was partially blocked, these two were beaten and bloody, clearly out of commission. Not a threat. Then the ground-shaking footsteps followed. The rat stepped over the beaten bums and quickened his pace. As long as he didn’t- The train of thought crashed unceremoniously as a demon burning with malice suddenly appeared before the doctor, forcing him to freeze on his tracks. For a moment, he could’ve sworn he was staring at an actual giant. Well then. This was a perfectly good reason to panic.

All color drained from the crook’s features. He audibly gulped, trying not to choke on the fear. His heart had gone from panicked hammering to a full stop. Or maybe that was just his imagination. The Yonko’s terms were clear as crystal. Unfortunately... So now his options were limited to spending more time on a compromised island and probably risking increasingly dangerous ambushes... Ooor taking his chances with the whole buried alive thing. Fantastic. This day just kept getting better, no? What did he ever do to deserve this? As if in response, the vivid memory of pickpocketing perhaps the worst possible target this morning flashed through his mind. Oh, right.

Nearly melting into panic sweat, the criminal managed to force a shaky smile. "Eh... Heh heh... I... think there might have been a misunderstanding. I was just... stretching my legs, see? Much better now." Without wasting another moment, he speed-walked over to the camels, the sort of rapid waddle only a man scared stiff could pull off so flawlessly. "Of course I’ll keep my end of the bargain. I’m a man of my word, see?" He flung the suitcase onto the animal’s back and scampered on as well. Grabbing the reins, he aimed overly dramatic points towards what he assumed -dearly hoped- would be their close destination. "Shall we get going then? Our patient awaits. No time to lose. Haha, onwards to adventure and all that." He had run out of intelligent things to say few sentences back, but even that couldn’t make him shut up.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

The changes of heart that the doctor seemed to have were more frequent and unreliable than the weather over the seas of the New World. Gray had already grown accustomed to his new comrade’s doubtlessly temporary pretense of eager cooperation, and he did not continue attempting to scrutinize it any further. In the suited man’s defense, Gray had had the displeasure of encountering far worse and more unforgivable personalities in the past, compared to some of which, the doctor was almost an angel. For all his misgivings, at least the man had a basic instinct of survival that allowed him to see reason and cooperate. And as long as he upheld his end of the bargain by at least making a genuine effort to apply his doctoral skills, Gray had no reason to wish the man harm. If anything, despite his open portrayal of outrage at the doctor’s attempt at escape, Gray almost found the man’s need for safety a comical aspect of his nature. And his own temperament prevented him from being upset with anyone for too long, let alone a guy trying to protect himself, even if his methods might come off as shamefully craven.

When the doctor turned towards the direction of their destination, Gray himself had to recover his bearings. Luckily enough, Tony was heading the right way. They had wasted almost ten minutes of their precious time countering their ambushers, and now Gray could not risk any more delays. He quickly grabbed the senseless rag doll of a body that belonged to the unconscious devil fruit user and threw it over his intoxicated camel behind the saddle. He then grabbed the bulky man of their two opponents and slung him over the doctor’s mount in the same position. He had assigned the bigger man in the doctor’s care in hopes of not overburdening his camel with too much weight, considering his own oversized mass. Gray then turned towards Tony and nodded preemptively, ”Try not to let him fall. I might have questions for them once we’re finished with the more important matters at hand.”

Having delivered his intentions, he quickly mounted his not-so-aware camel and whipped its reins, restarting its gait towards their original destination. He hurried the pace of the camel, likely past its capacity, until they could finally see the hazy outline of the village through the heatwave that dominated the sandy expanse between them and their goal. He was almost overcome with relief from the simple fact that they even managed to reach the village, even if he did not yet know if they had managed to do so in time for a dashing rescue. When they were less than 600 meters away from the village, Gray quickly dismounted his camel while still allowing it to run at its current speed, landing with a quick spurt on the soft sand and just as quickly kick-starting his own dash forward. He had landed in between his camel and the doctor’s, allowing him quick access to execute the plan that followed. With impossible ease, he lifted both his camel along with its incapacitated passenger and Tony’s camel, with its two riders, and bounded forward. He tilted the rear ends of the camels upwards so that the riders wouldn’t fall off from what was sure to be an unbeatable gust of wind they were about to fight against. ”You’d better hold on tightly,” was the only warning Gray bothered to provide the doctor with.

[Pressure Rocket]

In less than a second, they had already reached the village center, surrounded by small, dusty houses. Gray and his passengers had left a massive trail of dust in their wake as it slowly settled back on the ground behind them. Gray never enjoyed traveling such a relatively long distance at this speed, as it often left his ears ringing for a few minutes as it tried to recover from having overcome the sound barrier. Just when they had reached their destination, they would hear a loud boom from the starting point of their sprint, the sound having caught up just behind them.

Almost all of the houses were emptied at the sudden noise that awakened the relatively peaceful locale from its boring slumber. Just then a young boy, no older than twelve years, quickly came running towards them shouting in a panicked voice. ”Gray-san! This way!” When he had their attention, he quickly ran through an alley, closely followed by a haste-filled Gray, who was still carrying his companions, some of whom may have been more conscious and aware than others.

When Ojas, the young boy, had led them to outside his house, Gray set down the hitchhikers, looking towards Tony expectantly if and once he had regained his faculties. It was finally time for the doctor to show off the skills he was so proud of. ”Don’t you worry any more Ojas. Doctor Chopper here is going to do his best to help your mother. Tell Sheila to help him with whatever he needs, unless he asks for money.” He smiled slyly at Tony as if he were sharing an inside joke. And as if on cue, Sheila, the young boy’s sister, at least six years his senior, opened the door and hastily invited them in, having readied a glass of water on a table next to the door. Gray politely shook his head while pointing towards their captives. ”I have to keep an eye on these two, but the doctor here won’t need me to do his job, I’m sure.” He smiled reassuringly towards the two kids before tying the two camel’s reins to a pole outside the house. ”Oh, Ojas! Would you see if you can’t find some feed and water for these two lovely creatures?” He was distinctively pointing at the camels' front ends to avoid any potential confusion as to which creatures he was referring to. The boy nodded and quickly scurried off into the alley again, leaving his mother in the care of Sheila and the doctor. Gray, in the meantime, leaned against the wall next to the entrance, his ears perked up to hear all happenings inside the house, now that the ringing had finally dissipated.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

on Tue Nov 29, 2016 5:46 am
The longer this day went on, the stranger it seemed to get. First the criminal could only watch in wide-eyed disbelief when the vagabond decided to bring the agents along. You know... instead of being sensible and burying them six feet under... Then the strange pirate went on to leap off of his mount in full gallop. "What are you-?" The rest of the confused question was left somewhere behind by the immense acceleration. Before he could fully even process it, they had somehow appeared in the middle of a town.

While Gray greeted the locals, Richard was a bit... preoccupied. Well, barely holding together actually. His skin had turned as white as sour cream, eyes threatened to bulge out of their sockets and mouth was left hanging open in a soundless scream. Weakly the criminal fell from his ride and wobbled to the nearest wall to gather his wits. It felt like his poor heart was trying to escape through his throat. Of course he had heard tales of the Yonkou and their strength... but this was just ridiculous! Evidently staying on the vagrant’s good side wasn’t safe either. Then again... what could one expect from a monster?

The gentleman said nothing to the joke, only straining an imitation of a friendly smile, but perhaps the Conqueror could feel the irritated rat glaring daggers at his back afterwards. As color slowly returned to his features, so did his senses. Taking a deep breath, he straightened his back and dusted his clothes. His beady green eyes focused on the young lady at the door. Right, he had a job to do.

Entering the humble home, the crook scanned his surroundings. Dust danced on the stone floor and furniture was a rare luxury. It seemed even humble was a generous word for this place. There was hardly anything worth stealing. Pity. Quickly he was led to the patient at the back of the home. On a beaten bed laid a pitiful sight. The unconscious woman was younger than him by a good many years, yet already looked like death warmed over. Ragged breath and skin tinted with sickly yellow were telltale symptoms. Droplets of hastily wiped blood stained the sheets, a grim reminder of the urgency looming over the matter.

For every doctor, there was something of a professional demeanor, a specific frame of mind they instinctively took when dealing with dying patients. Many turned stone-faced, focusing on what they could do and mentally preparing for the worst. Yet Richard... smiled. "My dear, it would seem that you’ve come down with a horrible case of, well, imminent death." Calm and polite as ever, he set down his suitcase, removed his hat, coat and gloves one by one before leaning over to inspect the woman. Deftly his fingers searched for a pulse on her neck. Faint... Unsteady... "I would estimate we are rapidly running out of time..." She was weakening by the moment.

"...but I’m afraid heaven will have to wait."

With a sharp click, the suitcase popped open. In a dramatic wave of white, the doctor donned his coat. A warm, familiar feeling washed over the black, greedy little thing one would call his soul. It felt... good to be back. Moving with practiced ease, like a clockwork toy going through its favorite routine, he pulled the table closer and started arranging his supplies. Glass chimed softly against the wooden surface. For commoners, it looked like a random selection of mysterious chemicals and strange syringes, but for a chemist these were the answer to all of life’s questions.

[Intensive Care]

Once everything was in place, Richard handed a thick plastic bag to the girl. The liquid inside seemed to shine the faintest shade of green. "Hold this, would you kindly? A little higher. Yes, just like that." Fortunately the brand new helper had the sense to just do as asked. With surgical precision, the doctor then pushed a long needle deep into the patient’s arm. Bandages secured it in place. Little by little, the strange solution started dripping into her veins.

Without wasting a moment, the man of medicine moved on with his work. A small burner flared to life and a flask was balanced over it. One by one the ingredients were added: water, herbs and colorful chemicals. There was a drop of this, a pinch of that... Everything in careful measure... Just a moment he had to wait for it to bubble. A weird, stinging stench drifted into the air. Then swirl, swirl and swirl some more until the concoction got a beautiful golden color. Ah, perfect. He poured it onto a little towel and folded the warm cloth onto the patient’s forehead.

Combined the chemicals worked their wonders quickly. The change was subtle, something only the sharpest would notice. Stronger heartbeat... Easier breaths... Just the tiniest tugs of consciousness on her features... In mere moments, the patient was brought back from the brink and fully stabilized.

”Who do you think I am?”

The dusty alleys between the shabby houses echoed with the murmurings of the approaching crowd as the surprised spectators from earlier neared Gray’s location. The neighbors of the doctor’s patient had already vacated their homes with concerned expressions plastered over their faces. As they gathered around the entrance of the home guarded by Gray’s watch, an elderly man with a goatee and a turban stepped forward. His voice quivered as he spoke, clearly showing his advanced age. ”Greetings, Gray-kun. I’m thinking you’ve brought some help for poor Nina in there. I thank you on her behalf. Do you remember me?” The much shorter, almost hunchbacked man raised his head and tilted it back as if he were trying to provide a clearer picture of himself to the giant before him.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Gray’s eyes recognized the elder that faced him. He had prepared for this meeting, but he had not looked forward to it. This was a man that Gray had failed. This was the father of the late chef of the former Soaring Pirates. Ambur, the old man’s firstborn, had joined Gray’s crew as they passed through Alabasta on their journey together. His unsurpassed cooking skills had made him an instant favorite of many of the crew members. He had maintained his position as the crew’s cook until his last day at the Battle of Marineford, where he was mercilessly cut down by the unrelenting shichibukai, Lazarus. On that day, Gray had lost every single member of the Soaring Pirates that had joined the battle, and he himself had been defeated, presumed dead. Having survived this loss, Gray had walked across the seven seas to reach out to the family members of his deceased crew mates. This pilgrimage had already brought him to this village once, and the encounter had not been amicable, like many others.

During his last visit, he had been shot at by the two younger brothers of Ambur after a heated argument where blame was thrown towards him. Nina, who had most been hurt by the bitter tales he had brought of her dead husband, provided him with safe harbor in her home despite herself. Once the storm had settled, Gray had left with a promise. A promise that he was now here to fulfill.

”Yes, I remember you, Amir-san. And I come in peace, with a very skilled doctor. I assure you that he will do everything he can to save Nina.” He flashed a confident and comforting expression, putting his faith in the doctor's abilities, which was met with sighs of relief from the gathered spectators. Amir was flanked by two comparatively taller and dark-skinned men, whom Gray remembered as Ambur’s brothers, and his assailants upon his previous visit. This time around they appeared far more welcoming. Their attention shifted to Gray’s unconscious companions, who were still uncomfortably hanging over the arching backs of the dizzy camels. One of the brothers inquired curiously after them, to which Gray replied in a cryptic manner, only revealing them as foreign waylayers. This only reminded him to situate his prisoners in a place where they would not be able to remember their surroundings. Should he decide to let them live, he could not risk them finding this village again and avenging themselves upon its innocent residents in an attempt to hurt him or flush him out. But, he could confidently say, after having suffered the blow that he had dealt, in addition to the doctor’s “medicine”, they would not be waking up anytime soon without prompting.

As he explained his company, Ojas came running back with a bushel of dried and crusty hay and two small buckets of water. Despite his small size, he had excellently toned muscles, allowing him to easily carry the camels’ refreshments without spilling or dropping a grain. The younger brother of the two that questioned him quickly assisted Ojas with his task, easily befriending the thirsty camels as they began to nuzzle their two feeders after their hasty meal.

While the medicine worked its wonders, the doctor continued his efforts. He pulled a stethoscope from his suitcase and moved over the patient. Carefully her garments were stripped aside. His gaze turned towards her chest, but his mind wandered to what eyes could not see. The disk was placed over her heart and the rat closed his eyes. Focus... Taking his time, he slowly moved the cold tool from one spot to the next, again and again. Wavering heartbeat... shallow breaths scratching the lungs... blood flowing through the arteries...  One could learn so much from just knowing how to listen.

After one more check, the crook placed the equipment back into its place and idly scratched his chin. Just as he had surmised from the symptoms, the damage had already been done. Her heart was barely holding together and the rest of the organs weren't doing much better. If simply left like this, even with medicine treatment her condition would only worsen again. However... The dusty conditions severely limited his options. He would rather not risk an infection with any drastic procedures. Just one misstep could be lethal, a lesson every doctor had to learn at some point. Fortunately, Richard Maxwell always had a plan. ...Well, fortunate for him, not so much for her.

[Recovery Serum]

Richard reached into his suitcase and revealed a green syringe. Compared to the diluted solution in the drip, this was practically glowing, reflecting light like a liquefied emerald. His devilish smirk was distorted against the side of the glass. This was his medicinal masterpiece, a concoction other doctors wished they could copy. And today, it was his ticket out of this mess. Without any hesitation, he stabbed the needle into the base of the woman’s neck. The motion was far more careful and calculated than the shank served to the Cipher Pol agent, but no less swift. As the last of the suspicious substance vanished into her veins, the needle slid out and little white pad was pressed against the spot.

Stirred by the painful prick, the weak woman opened her eyes. Blinking slowly, once, twice, she stared at the doctor. Her mutter was unintelligible, but the puzzled tone was hint enough. Even in her weakened, feverish state she could likely tell there was a stranger in her home. "Hush, my dear, save your strength. I have everything under control." At this point his friendly words were more meaningful for the worried girl besides the bed than the actual patient. "Please, do try to get some rest." Watching the woman grit her teeth as the first convulsions traveled down her arms, the rat sighed and sat down. "...Though I imagine that will soon be... difficult."

A chilling scream pierced the air.

Anyone investigating the bloodcurdling sound would find a disturbing sight. The patient was writhing in agony, nails digging deep into the mattress, veins pulsing with an unnatural hue. She screamed until her bloody breath ran out, the she hacked, gasped and screamed more. Naturally, the younger lady was lost in full panic. Struggling to get her voice heard, she pleaded... doctor, Gray, somebody, anybody... help! Yet Richard seemed entirely indifferent about the whole thing. He was merely leaning back in his chair and observing the gruesome situation with that usual, self-assured smile.

Technique used:
Recovery Serum
Technique Level: 40
Technique Range: 1m
Technique Cooldown: 6 posts (3 post duration + debuff)
Technique Description: With a quick green injection, Richard amplifies the patient's natural healing drastically. This grants them high-speed regeneration for 3 posts. They are healed equal to one medium attack every post for the duration. The effect focuses on internal damage first, mending broken bones and repairing damaged organs very efficiently. However, the effect is excruciatingly painful and leaves the patient unable to utilize their full strength, thus they get -15% Attack debuff for the duration.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Rounde10
”Who do you think I am?”

The worrying family members, neighbours and acquaintances awaited outside the closed door patiently but nervously, attempting to distract themselves by watching the camels as they made fools of themselves, idiotically bumping their heads in their clumsy stupor while trying to fill their surely empty bellies. The amusing sight was quickly overshadowed, however, by what was an almost glass-shattering scream, followed by a series of desperate and pain-filled moans.

Met with the enraged faces of Nina’s well-wishers, Gray had to somehow calm the situation and buy the doctor enough time to do what he must. More than anything, however, he simply hoped that the doctor’s actions that had led to this nerve-wracking screaming were for the benefit of his patient, and not a desperate attempt to try anything and everything that might work. But, after having made clear the consequences of double-crossing him, he was certain that Tony had the good sense to not take any chances with that woman’s life. Therefore, having placed his faith in the doctor, he stood his ground firmly between the mob and the entrance to the doctor’s sanctum. ”Step aside, Gray-kun. We’ve already lost one member of our family in your care. We will not lose another.”

It would’ve been easy for Gray to simply knock the mob unconscious using his overwhelming haki, but he wished to convince them of Tony’s competence instead, invoking at least some faith in Nina’s chances of survival. And so, he held his hands up passively and shook his head. ”Listen to me, Amir-san. You have to believe me when I say that this man knows what he’s doing. Doctor Chopper is known widely around the world as an excellent surgeon, and he has never failed a patient before.” It was a crock of bullshit, of course. Gray had no idea what kind of fame the doctor had or had not achieved. But, years of practice as the leader of a notorious pirate crew, telling his mates how “everything would be all right”, had made him a convincing liar. Gray almost laughed within himself at his own actions. For handling the situation the way he did, he would’ve judged and condescended Tony, yet he did not hesitate a moment to use the tactic for himself. A hypocrite indeed.

Though skeptical, the mob hesitated in their advance, which allowed Gray’s savior to swoop in, tears rolling down his cheeks like twin waterfalls. ”Dada! You have to let Gray-san and his friend save mama! We already tried everything else, this is our best hope.” Seeing the wisdom in the words of a child shine brighter than that of all the adults put together, the angry mob settled to the continuing screams of a dying woman, hoping to hear a word of good news or at least some news. Gray sighed a breath of respite before turning his attention towards his captives to ensure they had not awakened from the newfound stimuli. To his relief, the two unconscious men were still more unaware of their surroundings than the animals they lay upon.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

Judging by the sounds of unrest rumbling outside, the villagers were getting anxious. Not that Richard could really blame the folks though, what with all the agonized crying in the background. Honestly he was just surprised that no one had recklessly barged in yet. That last word being the key here. Either they were drawing straws on who got to slit his throat… Or someone was stopping them at the door. And considering the distinct lack of towering muscle in the room, it wasn’t difficult to guess who was holding back the mob. About time that troublesome vagabond made himself useful... The medicine still needed more time to run its course. Every extra moment was appreciated.

The criminal’s pondering was interrupted by some severe tugging on his sleeve. It was the young lady, panicking about how her mother was dying. Rising from his seat (if only to calm the girl) the crook cocked his head. "Hm? I’m not quite sure what you mean?" He paced back and forth beside the patient’s bed, punctuating his points with deliberate footsteps. "From what I can see, the patient is conscious… able to move…" He shuddered as the woman tested his patience with another earsplitting shriek. "…and clearly has plenty of air in her lungs." Unfortunately. A word he was dying to add there, but left unsaid out of courtesy.

"So don’t worry. She won’t be leaving this world anytime soon."

For once, the dishonest doctor wasn’t spreading lies. Though the distraught daughter didn’t seem all that convinced, she at least stopped panicking. Good enough. Many doctors would’ve done more, offered assuring information, sworn that the treatment was working, been there as their emotional support, held their hand… Anything really. But not Richard. Not anymore. Bedside manner used to be one of his strongest points back in the day, but that had been a long time ago. Nowadays he focused on sharpening more useful skills. Like survival for instance. Staying alive was one of his favorite things, you know. Right after getting rich of course.

Returning to the equipment table, the Richard started his routine again. First he selected the ingredients, a little bit from various bags and bottles... Then he mixed them together... And boiled the concoction until the color settled. This mixture was pale pink in shade and held the kind of stench that made one’s nose wrinkle from merely a whiff. Whistling a cheery tune from a distant land, he poured it into a small mold of sorts. The holes were too small, and round for that matter, to make ice cubes. Instead, as the mixture cooled down and congealed, it formed pink little orbs, almost like candies. Everything was coming together nicely. Just a little longer...

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Rounde10
”Who do you think I am?”

As the debilitated woman’s piercing screams began to settle into an almost tolerable hymn, victims of Gray’s interference shuffled backward in retreat. Some of the folks returned to their homes, likely wanting to await updates without suffering the scorching sun’s onslaught. Some others plopped themselves onto the soft sand that lay in the cool shade of the neighbouring houses, resting their backs against their walls. However, such release of tension could not be seen among the family members of Richard’s patient. The old man stood close to his nervous grandson, who was trying to distract himself by watching the amusing spectacle that was created by the dosed-up camels. He was having about as much success as his uncles, who were pacing around, fidgeting over the unyielding cries of pain of their poor sister-in-law.

Gray, on the other hand, had had his attention drawn away suddenly by a distant presence. He detected movements of a single hostile being, approaching them at a slow yet steady pace from the direction that they had traveled a short while ago. This presence was without a doubt a formidable one, and yet he was skeptical of why the person that carried such strength and hostility, did not bother to hide their presence.

[Kenbunshoku Passive]

He himself had not been masking his own aura, which would’ve revealed his location to anyone willful enough to detect it. This led him only to a single concerning conclusion: the approaching hostile was a distraction. It was a standard move of the clandestine Cipher Pol teams to use a solitary agent as a distraction while others ambushed the unguarded flanks of their targets. But, if this were the case, Gray could not fathom why they had not used this tactic while they still had two more active agents to help execute it. Surely they could not have underestimated him that much?

In any case, he had to warn the doctor with this new knowledge, lest they be caught off-guard and risk the lives of the civilians. Before he entered the dust-covered house of the patient, he turned to the clueless old man. ”Amir-san, listen to me very carefully. I want you to take Ojas and lock yourself inside your home. Shut all the doors and windows.” The sudden seriousness of his expression and the heaviness of his voice was enough to convince Amir to obey without any arguments. He then turned to the two brothers and provided further instructions. ”I want you two to run around the village and provide the same warning to everyone. Then lock yourselves inside the last house you get to. You might not have time to run back.” Gray’s fists were tightening, and his glare intensifying, which snatched away the words of protest that almost came out of the brothers’ mouths. They quickly jogged in opposite directions to execute their orders, while Amir led Ojas by his hand towards their home next door.

Gray ducked through the comparatively shorter door, and then followed the raucous howls to their source. He cleared his throat as he stood by the entrance of the room to seek the doctor’s attention, and waved him over while the daughter serviced her mother in whatever way she was instructed to. If the doctor understood his gesture, Gray then went on to whisper to him with an expression that carried the same gravity that it had outside. ”I fear the friends of our companions may be on their way here to either try and finish what these two started... or at the very least rescue them. I’m going to try and intercept them, but I might also have my hands full for a bit, depending on how heavy they’ll be making their entrance. I need you to keep an eye, if you can, on those two unconscious idiots outside. They should be weakened enough to not wake up for a while, but you can never tell these days with the stimulant drugs that these agents are made to take. But, I don’t want you to watch my back at the expense of that woman’s health. Please make her your top priority.” If Richard was to respond, positively or negatively, Gray would simply nod and then exit the house after providing a comforting smile to the worrying girl and glancing sympathetically towards the suffering woman. After having left the house, he leaped onto its roof gracefully, his piercing gaze scanning the sandy expanse for the enemy’s reinforcements.

Before long, he had spotted the large frame of the man that was emitting such a strong aura. The man was wearing a dirty brown cloak that covered his appearance, at least in the distance, but he was making no attempts to hide his approach on a hastening camel whose coat's color matched its rider's cloak's. This prompted Gray to check his rear and his flanks for any impending attacks, detecting only silence and distant knocks, which were likely caused by the brothers warning their fellow citizens. Just a little longer…

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

on Wed Dec 14, 2016 7:04 am
Once the pink pills had hardened enough, the chemist scooped them up into a brown bottle. A wooden cork was plopped in place, sealing the lingering odor inside. The purpose of the bottle would remain his little secret for now. He needed all the leverage he could get, see? So this... should work nicely... His thoughts strayed back to present as the gigantic man squeezed himself into the humble home. If the Yonko was here to observe the treatment, then 'Doctor Chopper' would be happy to offer him some good news. ...Despite the worrisome scene. And then the Yonko would be eternally grateful and all the other pieces would fall into place.

Unfortunately, things could never be that simple...

Richard’s jaw just dropped at the bad news. Eye twitching from sheer disbelief, he barely managed to form words. "A-are you serious...? How... how do you even...?" Hastened by the creeping fear, however, he suddenly waved the half-formed questions aside. "You know what, never mind. It’s not important right now." Deep breaths did very little to stop the jitters, but at least he managed to regain his line of thought. His beady green eyes narrowed, focusing on the patient. "The exact deal was that I save this woman’s life, right? Right..." The devil was in the details. When dealing with a man like Richard Maxwell, one had to always be very careful what they wished for...

While the vagabond headed out, the doctor turned to his equipment. Out of nervous habit he tried to slick back his graying hair, idly claw the disheveled strands into a more presentable shape. "Lovely. Absolutely wonderful. Just what this day was missing... more assassins." Without wasting another moment, he started packing his things. Burner off, bottles secured, drugs hidden and so on... All the while he feverishly mumbled. "Go to Alabasta... Nothing ever happens in Alabasta... While you’re at it, visit the middle of nowhere with a total stranger... A brilliant idea, by the way. What could possibly go wrong?" His voiced regrets were not meant for anyone’s ears in particular, but he simply couldn’t stay quiet.

Meanwhile, the patient finally calmed down. The final cry ended in a pained gasp. Richard managed to regain his professional demeanor for a little longer. Approaching the bed, he relied on his trusty stethoscope once more. She shivered against the cold touch. Reaction was a promising sign. Now the breathing sounded normal, if a little shallow from all the screaming. Furthermore, her heart was hammering like a healthy one should after... well... what she had just endured. He allowed himself an incredibly smug smirk. Another successful treatment and from the brink of death no less. His former colleagues would’ve choked on their envy right about now.

But even the glow of that satisfying thought didn’t warm his black little soul for long...

The rat still had a huge assassin problem to deal with, see? Two right outside and more on the way. Today had just been a never-ending series of unfortunate events...  Cursing his luck, he snapped his suitcase shut and quickly checked his pockets. At least he still had plenty of syringes and other tricks to give him an edge. He shot a sideways glance at the relieved daughter gently tending to her quickly recovering mother. Then there was the deal to keep in mind... Right. If he got out of this alive, he silently swore he would stick to honest business... at least for... a week.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Rounde10
”Who do you think I am?”

The screaming had finally calmed to an eerie silence, making anyone within earshot wonder if the poor woman’s suffering had ended permanently. However, Gray was not one of them, as he could detect her presence as clearly as every single other being that was breathing within a kilometer of him. That is, if they weren’t intentionally hiding their presence. It would not be pleasant for him or Tony to be blindsided by these ambushers while being distracted by the dying woman. While Tony had no choice in the matter, considering his promise, Gray himself could focus on the fight ahead while leaving the worries of the patient’s health to her doctor.

The brawny fellow in the dirty cloak had neared the outskirts of the hamlet and his camel had slowed down to a canter. Gray had a decision to make. From their earlier encounter with the two failed Cipher Pol agents, they had discovered that their target was in fact Tony, and not Gray. In this case, Gray would be taking a huge risk by leaving the vicinity of the house. The village was small enough for him to come running back at the first sign of trouble, but the delay of those few seconds could possibly be enough for their opponents to snatch up the doctor. However, the doctor had shown enough competence in combat to practically overwhelm a doubtlessly high ranking Cipher Pol agent. His second option would require him to have faith in the doctor’s ability to defend himself and the civilians in his charge, and draw the dangerous foe away from the village and into the sandy expanse.

He had only a moment to decide, and so he chose the riskier option. With a quick leap, he bounded towards the entrance into the thoroughfare of the village, landing himself directly in the path of the herculean opponent. The man stopped dead in his tracks as his hood flung off his head, revealing clearly the bear-like mask he wore. The sight of this mask caused Gray to snicker. ”Looks like Cipher Pol prefers getting circus animals to do its dirty work.” Living up to Cipher Pol’s reputation, the man did not even acknowledge Gray’s comment, remaining silent as he slowly dismounted his panting camel.

Gray’s sarcastic tone and playful smile quickly faded away, once he had realized how boorish the man who stood before him likely was. ”You and your friends have already made a habit of facing me alone, one after another. It makes me wonder if you’re all fools, or if there’s more to your plan.” The rhetorical inquiry was answered, and his earlier suspicion confirmed, when his Bear-masked opponent leaked the signs of a very subtle contemptuous smirk. Gray had to get back to Tony as soon as possible, because he was now certain that this fight was merely a distraction, a tactic they had already applied once before. However, from the powerful presence of the hulking bag of muscle and ursine pride that stood before him, Gray could tell that this time the distraction would fare much better. Gray closed and opened his robotic fingers before tweaking them as if playing an imaginary piano in preparation. And once he had confirmed the efficient response of his disembodied limb, he quickly shot his metallic finger forward as if mimicking a pistol, pointing it directly at Bear-man, before launching a bright and almost blinding golden laser beam.

[Punk’s Dream]

The opponent barely managed to get out of the way, the laser beam slightly grazing the side of his torso as it whizzed by. Despite the damaging potential of the beam, it was clear from the way Bear-man stood unbothered that the grazing hit had had absolutely no effect on him. The man’s skin instead, had blackened into a glossy ebony color, indicating the activation of busoshoku Two could play at this game though; and Gray had no doubt that his haki was far stronger.

[Busoshoku Haki] [Kenbunshoku Haki]

Gray’s arms and the exposed skin on his torso quickly darkened into a color blacker than oblivion. There was no gloss on this discoloring. In fact, if the daylight had faded already, one would not even be able to distinguish his body from the darkness of the night sky, even under the brightness of a full moon. The bear-masked man’s stance shifted just slightly, him likely having realized his disadvantageous position. Without allowing him a spare moment to raise his guard fully, Gray blasted forward with a loud boom and within a moment he was clashing against his opponent. Bear-man raised his arms up to protect his torso in time, however the momentum of Gray’s buso-hardened fist launched his opponent through a good eighty meters. The brawny man fumbled with a complete lack of coordination from the blow. Gray noticed a state of hardening on the man’s skin that he did not expect below busoshoku’s protection. However, whatever it was, it wasn’t nearly enough to prevent his opponent from breathlessly flailing his nearly broken arms about.

Gray’s brows furrowed and his gaze towards his opponent turned into a fierce glare. ”I grow tired of your attempts at wasting my time. It’s almost embarrassing to see a once formidable organization, as disgusting as its principles were, to have fallen to stupidly attacking their targets without proper preparation. I beat the shit out of half of your superiors during the war four years ago. It’s insulting that you think you can last against me long enough to even call it a ‘distraction’. Take your colleagues and go back, before you get yourself irreversibly crippled or worse yet, killed.” The bleeding man grunted and moaned as he held his aching arms close to himself. While he awaited a response from his foe, Gray’s attention through his Kenbunshoku directed itself towards the center of the village, where his ‘teammate’ was carrying the ball to the finish line.

Technique Description: The user points in a direction with his index finger, holding his hand as if mimicking a pistol, and launches a laser beam from the tip of his finger. This laser beam can reach up to 1km before weakening to the point of irrelevance. Within that range, it can penetrate through anyone with defense<50% of the user's attack, causing severe burning damage along the penetration wound. If the beam hits anyone with defense>50% of the user's attack, it loses its penetrative properties, and instead causes heavy explosive damage, blowing up on impact.

Seconds inched by. Cold sweat crawled down the criminal’s skin. The bottom of his throat felt like sandpaper. This was always the worst part, you know, this unbearable tension. He tried to listen, yet couldn’t hear much over the deafening pounding coming from his chest. In the dark corner of his mind, the imaginary Florence flask of fearful thoughts threatened to overflow. The enemies could be anywhere... They could be underground, behind the wall, or right at the door. His paranoid stare twitched onto the two women covering at the end of the room, giving him those strange looks, like he had gone crazy or something. The venomously green eyes narrowed. They could even be-!

A peculiar sound snapped Richard from his thoughts, a sound he couldn’t quite put into words. Pensively he glanced upwards, just in time to... get bombarded with strange, tiny blocks? Before the crook could even fully react, a portion of the ceiling caved in and a cloaked figure burst through. A dark blur whizzed towards him, followed by piercing pain. He yelped. This enemy too was masked, seemed to be some sort of bird motif, though the rat couldn’t really tell. In all fairness, he was a little distracted by the bleeding hole on his right shoulder. Blood dripped from the foe’s finger.

The doctor staggered backwards, straining to regain his wits. His right arm wasn’t quite cooperating. Luckily, just like his epithet animal he was the tenacious sort. And you know what they say about cornered rats... He yanked the Luger into view from a hidden holster and unleashed a spiteful volley of lead in the enemy’s general direction.

[9mm Aspirin]

However, like a piece of paper floating in breeze, the agent deftly swayed between the shots. It felt like time itself slowed down to witness the unbelievable feat. Not a single one landed, not even a scratch. Eyes bulging, jaw agape, Richard was left quaking in disbelief. And fear, of course. The attack merely managed to gain him some breathing room. Still, he refused to believe any freak of nature was fast enough to actually dodge speeding lead, especially at point-blank. Rather, it was like the foe had somehow predicted the dangerous path of each bullet... and preemptively moved out of the way every instant he squeezed the trigger...

Unfortunately, analysis would have to wait. There was a click, the universal sound of a gun turning into a club. Immediately the agent pressed the attack. Another dark blur followed, this time aimed at the doctor’s uninjured shoulder. He barely managed to dodge it, jumping to the side with a rather high-pitched scream. Much to his growing horror, the finger poke of doom actually left a clean hole on the stone wall. What manner of monster could do that?! And worse yet... This stranger was far faster than the previous problem he had to handle. He needed a plan, a good one, pronto.

"W-wait!"

The criminal raised his healthy hand, offering a wavering smile. "Y-you win... I surrender." Emphasizing the empty weapon in his grasp, he made a show of slowly lowering it onto the table. "I’m dropping my gun, see? Completely unarmed..." Meanwhile, his injured arm twitched weakly. It dipped into his pocket, ever so subtly grasping onto something. "So let’s all just calm down and... GEHO!" The agent had somehow caught on to the devious intentions, like a mind reader, and retaliated with a swift kick. Richard recoiled and three colored syringes clattered onto the floor. "Sonofa... Gah..." A comically awkward pause followed as both fighters glanced at the dropped needles.

...And the rat promptly dived after them.

"Oh my, what a delightful town!"

Around the same time as the arrival of the bear-masked Cipher Pol agent, a bright-eyed man made a similar entrance from the opposite side of the unnamed town. The man had his aura suppressed and added by the Cipher Pol agent's overpowering aura that served as a pretty good distraction, it would come to no real surprise if his presence went completely undetected. His mantle, shining under the scorching heat of the sun, flapped in the sand-filled wind and the young man had his head tentatively ducked so that half his face was protected by the collars of his mantle. Despite his delicate frame, he towed a medium sized cart that he had little difficulty manoeuvring despite the loose and sandy terrain that was constantly shifting with the breeze that flew from the direction of the port. A massive assembly of what would appear to be junk piled precariously on top of the cart. There was no particular system and was purely a collection of all kinds of knickknacks that very few people would find use in. There were bronze goblets, towels, pieces of wood, buckets of dried paint, random billboards, rusted frames with no pictures, necklaces with very obvious faux jewels, plastic plates, rocks...and even more to identify if one were to invest the time in searching. With the rattling of his wares that was threatening to topple and the squeaky wheels of the cart, the young man was making quite the entrance.

As he passed through the entrance of the town and onto the dusty roads, the almost dilapidated homes provided shelter against the desert wind. Though the sun still beat mercilessly down, the man was relieved to have escaped one of the tormenters and popped his head out from the collars of his mantle with a sigh. Glancing around the town, his eyes immediately lit up as he took in the unkempt roads and sand-battered homes. Tugging his cart, the man made an line for a grubby window and peered inside. To his delight, he spotted all kinds of wares and antiques inside, but the dimness of the shop indicated the absence of the owner. Failing to allow this deter him, he made off to the next shop across the road, drool dripping down his chin as he spotted the cakes inside. However, again, the shop was dim and downcast, he went to the next shop. Again and again, he peered into more unlit shops and finally, when he'd reached the heart of the town, he collapsed onto the ground with a wail. "Why is everyone gone?" he cried, tears running down his cheeks. "I actually have money this time! See!!!"

In his tantrum, he pulled his money pouch from his breast pocket and threw it into the air with irrational vexation. The loosely tied rope of the pouch did little to contain the precious contents inside and soon enough, coins were cascading down on the young man. Sniffing, he glared vengefully at the fallen coins. "What good are you to me if I can't use you?" he asked and feeling genuinely annoyed when the golden coins only glinted up at him without an answer. If the man had only paid attention to his Haki, he might have realised that the presences of the townspeople were all bundled together in the back of their respective shops that often doubled as a home. Instead, only the sound of a disturbance from nearby clued him in on the existence of actual people.

His tears forgotten, he leapt to his feet and made a mad dash for the noise, his fallen money equally forgotten. He flung the door of the home with an excited flourish and a cheer. "I'm here~~~" he cried happily, relieved at the prospect of company. "Oh, you can't imagine how overjoyed I am to see you!" Only did he finish with this did he pause to take in the scene around him. The brightness in his eyes didn't diminish even as they swept over thin, shady-looking man who was making a desperate dive for a set of fallen needles and the bird-masked Cipher Pol agent who was attempting to prevent the acquisition of the needles. When his eyes rested on the agent, his jaw dropped and his hand fell away from the handle of his cart. In a flash that left only his afterimage in his wake, he was in front of the agent, blocking his path to the needles and the shady-looking man (though honestly, they both shady).

"OH.MY.GOD," he squealed with excitement. "Where did you get that mask?! Those feathers look almost real even though it's made of wood! How much did you buy it for? Tell you what, if you give it to me, I'll give you all my modest savings." Fumbling his pockets, he searched for his money pouch. He had completely forgotten about his loss of the pouch in a bout of tantrum and when he found it missing, he genuinely wondered where it had run off to. Instead, he found his candy pouch and emptied the contents onto his outstretched palms. "Now let me see...how much do we have here? One, two, three, four...five pieces! Here, isn't that an awesome deal! Now gimme that mask..."

”Who do you think I am?”

The disturbances in the presences and auras around the center of town suggested a bout in action, however, it could’ve simply been the stressed mind of the doctor attempting to rescue a dying patient. Nonetheless, he could not risk leaving his charges isolated for too long, exposed to who knows what sorts of danger. His attention quickly returned to his opponent, who was still reeling from the busoshoku-instilled punch. However, what he did next, Gray could not have predicted by any means.

Bear-face kneeled forward and scooped up a large handful of sand in his massive palms. Once his hands were full, he stood back up and tilted his palms forward, pouring sand onto the ground. But, there was something off about the grains that were falling out of his hand. ”You think that just because the world remembers you as “The Conqueror”, and because you caused some trouble for the incompetent organization that is the Navy, you’re the biggest, baddest fish in the sea? Allow me to show you how wrong you are.” The sands seemed to shift, and the raining sand grains suddenly tightened together before reaching the ground, forming a sharp spear-like rod. Bear-face’s fingers wrapped tightly around the cylindrical shape of the sandy weapon as he drove its pointed tip into the ground.

The sand splashed around the object more than it should have normally, judging by the force that he applied to stab into the sand. A devil fruit power, perhaps? But, Gray could not fathom what exactly it could be. No matter what trick the enemy agent had pulled out of his sleeve, Gray was certain his earlier hit had dealt some solid damage. But, he did not expect the following trick to be as dangerous as it turned out to be.

With a swift motion forward, Bear-face launched his javelin at Gray’s torso. Overconfident as Gray was in his superior haki, he decided to withstand the attack. While the tip of the spear blunted against Gray’s cemented skin, the momentum of the weapon caused him to stagger, leaving a sore and painful spot as it broke apart into millions of grains on contact. ”OW! That actually hurt… that thing was way heavier than it looked. What the hell are you?”

This rhetorical query solicited a previously unseen reaction from Bear-face. The husky man smiled as he ripped off his cloak from his shoulders, revealing a dirtied, standard navy blue, World Government suit underneath. As the man patted his clothes off to shake off the dust, he started to chuckle snarkily. ”If you think this is where I go off on an anecdote about how my powers work, you’re even more naive than they say you are.” This response caused Gray to smile his know-it-all smile. ”And if you think cheap insults like that are going to have any effect besides amuse me, you’re far more idiotic than I thought you were.”

Bear-face’s voice was silenced, possibly realizing that his clever remarks were edgeless. The beefy fighter’s subtle smirk disappeared, and he proceeded to quickly bend down again and scoop up more sand. This time, his pace was much quicker. In a few moments, he had already created and thrown six sandy javelins at Gray one after another, each one of them grazing his sides. While not a single one of those bled him, they each left a sizeable red spot, only hidden by his obsidian skin. Gray’s lips quivered as his irritation grew, and he suddenly thrust his arms forward and grappled and pulled the air as if pulling an invisible rope. ”Enough!”

[Get over here!]

A spinning gust of wind seemed to conjure itself around them, and the air itself warped in the empty space between Gray and his opponent. The constant assault of spears was abruptly ended. In the middle of a throw, Bear-face was pulled towards Gray with a sudden and violent jerk. But, the experienced combatant managed to point the spear that he held in his hands towards Gray as he was pulled, and hardened it with haki. Taking advantage of his momentum from Gray’s pulling technique, he drove the spear into Gray’s lower abdomen towards his left side. With a yelp of pain, Gray coughed out a cup full of spit. Luckily for him, his arm was already in motion to carry through his next attack. Just as the spear penetrated his skin, the sea prism stone knuckles on his mechanized arm rammed themselves forward into the approaching enemy’s face.

[Laundry Day]

This time, unlike when he had attacked the miserly doctor, he had no reason to hold back his punch. His full might was invested into that single attack, beating Bear-face’s nose halfway into his face as blood and snot splattered out of the misshapen nostrils, and five or ten of his teeth sprung out of his mouth, all within a split second as he landed in a straight path downwards, while spinning his way out of his uniform. The battered opponent was not unconscious, but as he tried to get back up on his feet, he stumbled and fell flat on his face, completely unable to keep a cohesive posture in his bloodied, naked body. Gray’s robotic fingers gripped around the considerably heavy spear stuck in his abdomen, and pulled the crimson-stained weapon out. The gaping hole left behind hurt more than it should have, but Gray had endured much worse. Pain was something he had grown too accustomed to. He forced his tell-tale victory smile while gritting his teeth in pain underneath, and rolled his eyes at his faltering opponent. ”Man, you’ve got a lot of attitude for someone who doesn’t wear any underwear. And for a big man, you’ve got a pretty tiny thing, y’know. You’re lucky there are no ladies around to laugh at you.” The fight was decided; as if there was ever any doubt who the victory would belong to.

Just when the crook had dared to think this day couldn’t possibly get any worse, or weirder, well... it did. That was becoming something of a trend really. All of a sudden a bizarre stranger burst into the room, acting far too cheery for the grim scene. Richard blinked. The agent blinked. Another awkward paused held the two fighters in its grip.

The doctor was the first to recover, snatching his precious needles. At the same second, there was no reply from the agent, not a direct one anyway. Only the eyes narrowed. Clearly the silent fellow wasn’t very interested in the intruder. ...or averse to going right through him. A swift kick sent forth a blade of shimmering wind, threatening to cut the blonde in two and the criminal right after. Barely the rat managed to save his behind by rolling out of the way. Again the three syringes slipped from his grasp. Just one minor difference though... They were all empty.

[Painkiller]
[Adrenaline Spike]
[Power Overwhelming]

Surging strength... It was always such an intoxicating sensation. Richard could feel his heartbeat quickening, his muscles pulsing and the chemical cocktail spreading through his veins. The beady green eyes lit up with a nasty gleam. His sly smile twisted into something wider, sharper, meaner. Those attuned with Haki could perhaps sense every malicious intention that bubbled in his soul, like a toxic aura surrounding his lanky frame. If there ever was a moment suitable for maniacal laughter, this was certainly it. ...The doctor restrained himself, however. He didn’t have a single moment to waste here. The clock was ticking, you see. He turned around, sweeping his venomous gaze over to his foe. With a blurred motion and few rapid clicks, the gun was reloaded.

"Now then... where were we?"

Naturally, the assassin sprung to action as well. Just one touch and the floor itself came to life. It turned into little blocks that rapidly rearranged themselves, rising upwards like thin walls in attempt to trap the target. And the blonde as well for good measure. Yet for once the rat didn’t feel cornered. This time... he could see the attack clearly. With the agility of someone half his age, he scurried out of the closing cage. In the same leap, he reached his grip around the foe’s torso and promptly kneed the fellow right in the gut. Hopefully that hurt. The agent may have seen it coming, yes, but keeping up with the hopped up rat was a whole different matter.

Capitalizing on the quickly dwindling element of surprise, the crook shoved the masked problem away. ...Right at the odd stranger in fact. The two could keep each other company... "As much as I would love to stick around, I really need some fresh air. Ciao." ...while he grabbed his suitcase and made a mad dash for the nearest window. Freedom!

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

on Thu Dec 22, 2016 6:07 pm
A few hours ago...

The wind blew as merchants were shouting and sailors were resupplying their ships, in a small -but lively- port town located only 20km away from the small village. A young man could be seen in front of a fruit merchant's stand, purchasing two apples. After paying the old merchant, the young man turned around, so as to give one of the apples to his partner. After looking around for a few seconds and a short pause, "Shit. Not again!", the man shouted while looking to the sky. Composing himself, he put one apple in his pocket, tightened the jacket around his waist and set off to look for his absent-minded friend.

Eva had come to Alabasta to, well, babysit his friend and fellow revolutionary commander, Alice Baltroy Ronx. Due to Alice's nature, he was prone to getting into all sorts of trouble. Eva was there to minimize that as much as humanly possible and make sure his ally didn't do something like wandering off and getting lost in the desert. Just as he feared, however, Alice had gone off on his own, the moment Eva turned his back.

It wasn't hard to find someone who had seen his lost friend, as he always dragged around a large carriage, filled to the brim with what most would call garbage. After asking a few people, Eva found out what direction his friend had taken, and hurried after him, into the desert.

It was especially easy to stay on his friend's track, as Eva simply had to follow the trail of junk that still peeked out of the sand. Surely that trash had fallen from Alice's carriage and Eva couldn't help but facepalm, thinking of how many more things that had fallen, were now lost under the desert's sand. Regardless of that thought, however, he didn't pick any of that junk up.

Now...

After a few hours had passed, Eva could finally see a village in the distance and picked up the pace. "Let's see if he's there"

[Kenbunshoku (Passive)]

Being within 1km of the village, Eva attempted to sense if his friend was there. What he sensed instead, totally surprised him.

"Wow, there's quite a few strong auras here. But this one... it completely overpowers the others...  Huh, seems like its owner did just that to the second strongest right now. This could be interesting. I hope Alice is still alive though..."

A wide smile covered Eva's face as he rushed to the village at top speed.

Moments later, he was walking through the village, heading toward the source of the powerful aura.  As he was closing in, however, he stopped. "Ah, there he is!" Being closer now, he could sense and distinguish Alice's familiar presence in a nearby house. Changing his course, he arrived at the house from the side and headed to the nearest window, so as to have a peek inside. He saw a suited man, carrying a briefcase, running madly toward him.

"Huh?"

The bird-masked man didn't appear willing to part with his mask, but that didn't deter Ronx. In fact, if anything, he didn't seem to notice that there was anything out of the ordinary, which was an incredible feat in itself, given the tense atmosphere of the room. Suddenly, something on the ground pulled the young man's attention away from his objective and he dropped to the ground with a massive grin across his face. "Oh, wow, candy!" he exclaimed, not realising that he had unwittingly dropped a sixth piece when he had pulled out his candy pouch. "I'm so lucky, it's my favourite type too!"

Especially lucky because he had somehow managed to dodge the potentially deadly attack that the Cipher Pol agent had intended to cleave him into two with. Feeling the breeze that followed ruffle the top of his head, Ronx glanced up in surprise. Then, he heard the sound of empty needles dropping to the ground and, as easily distracted as he was, he turned with unconfined interest. His eyes traced to the needles, forgetting or somehow still oblivious to the fact that he might have involved himself into something he shouldn't have. Then, as the two fighters sprung into action, Ronx felt the ground shift underneath him. To his surprise, little blocks began forming from the floor and began surging upwards to form a cage. The notion that the floor was trying to trap him help some interest to Ronx, but not as much as the fallen syringes and within a flash, he was standing beside the syringes that had rolled outside of the strange confines.

Stooping down, the man with his unwavering cheerful countenance scooped the little containers up and admired them in the limited light that filtered through the window. "You wouldn't happen to want to sell these to me for five-no six!-pieces so you?" he asked with wonder, turning to the skinny man in the suit before starting. "Oh my, where did he go?" He stared around incredulously before shrugging and slipping the vials into his pocket. "Well, if he's so willing to leave them behind without even a proper farewell, he doesn't deserve them!" he said with an huff, genuinely annoyed that the suited man had been careless enough to forget such treasures. "Now...I feel like I'm forgetting something...oh yes!"

The bird-masked man was making a pursuit for the man who had been quick to retreat, but Ronx was quick to remember that he still had unfinished business. In a flash, he was in front of the door, abruptly blocking the agent's attempt to leave the home. "Now, about that mask of yours..."

”Who do you think I am?”

A note about combat (Please read!):

This is in reference to Alice’s last post (don’t worry, you’re not in trouble with the boss~ XD). In combat situations, you should do your best to involve the stat system where you can. For example, when Raven tried to chase after Maxwell, Ronx shouldn’t have been able to block her path by catching up to her.

This action would’ve involved a reflex check, which would’ve shown that Raven’s reflex is almost 175% that of Ronx’s. In this case, (referring to the Combat Guide), Raven’s reflex overwhelms Ronx’s by a mile. So, while an attempt could very well have been made by Ronx to try and stop her (since ICly, Ronx couldn’t have known how much faster she was), it should not have succeeded. Nonetheless, the post has already been made, and an excellent one at that, and we shall treat the little stats misunderstanding as a momentary lapse in Raven’s coordination from all the confusion.

Don’t let this stop you from enjoying the combat the way you want to though. As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve been guilty of forgetting about stat checks too. In the case of Raven and Ronx hiding their presences, their willpower wasn’t nearly high enough for them to be able to hide themselves from Gray. And yet, I totally messed that bit up. But, we can only learn by practicing, so I shall also do my best to practice what I preach!

The silent grunting of Gray from the leaking hole in his left iliac region was completely overshadowed by the desperate and chaotic panting and moaning of his staggering, noseless and naked foe. Gray’s eyes averted themselves from him, not wanting to accidentally meet the shameful gaze of the man’s private parts. From what he had noticed from the aftermath of his punch, he was certain he had buried some pieces of the man’s shattered mask into his cheeks, doubtlessly leaving grievous lacerations and terrible scars afterwards, if he were to live through his ordeal. But, most of all, he was sure of having bypassed whatever the man’s devil fruit powers were, which he suspected were what aided his defense from Gray’s previous attack.

Gray’s sea-prism stone knuckles built into his robotic arm were quite useful in countering devil fruit users. However, Gray being a devil fruit user himself, had to take extra precaution not to let his own weapon turn against him. To keep the devil fruit suppressant from affecting himself accidentally, he had requested automatic metallic sheaths placed around the knuckles, which covered the sea-prism stone studs, preventing Gray from weakening himself when he felt the need to show off by performing stereotypical and clichéd actions such as driving his fist into his palm while cracking his neck.

And while his current situation nearly gave him the right to act out on such a fantasy, he restrained himself from doing so, instead diverting his attention back towards his companion and his patient. To his dismay and later boiling agitation, he had now detected three unknown presences in the house that he had left in the doctor’s care. But, what worried him the most was that the doctor’s presence was without the walls of the building, rather than within. Could the new presences that had managed to slip through his overwhelming Kenbunshoku haki belong to the fellow agents of Bear-face? It was hard to tell, as the emotions emanating from those presences were rather frantic and chaotic, one swooning over someone or something, in a sense, while a second one casting intense aggression.

All of this was suddenly less important when his scan made him realize what dire straits his temporary colleague was in. The two opponents that he had disposed of earlier, had now slept enough. Their consciousness returned, he could detect their presence on top of the roof above the building that the doctor was scrambling away from. Things had just now hit a new bottom. While his own fight may have been one-on-one, though far from fair and even for his enemy, the doctor’s fight was now potentially five-on-one, from what he could tell. This had to end before his initial goal was too far out of his grasp. His fists clenched tightly as he stepped firmly towards the bleeding man. ”It pains me to do this, but you and I both know that if I let you go, you will use this village against me when I’m not here to protect it.” He hated himself for the hypocrisy that he was about to justify. ”While I value your life, as despicable as you may be, I value the lives of those villagers more. I’d like to know your name, your real name, before I end your life. And if you have any final words for someone, I might be able to pass them on.”

The man he had just defeated had shown incredible resilience, despite his loss, and even more pride and bravery. However, this pride and bravery could also be seen as arrogance and foolishness, depending on who you asked. Gray believed it to be the latter, and his fears were confirmed, when he received a response from the ill-fated man. ”Fuck you, Conqueror. Your kind disgusts me. You claim to respect life and protect it, when in the end, when faced with an inconvenient choice, you do what you judge others for doing: you kill.” He spat out blood as he kneeled on one knee, quivering in pain. His voice was barely audible, and slurred almost beyond recognition due to the missing teeth and bleeding mouth. But, Gray could not mistake his words. ”How many men did you kill when you went on your rampage in the New World, huh? Did you go speak to the relatives of each soldier you killed, telling them how you'd ended their lives when all they were doing was following orders like any good soldier would do? Of course you didn't. So, spare me your patronizing words, you hypocrite. Just kill me... because if you don’t, I sure as shit will kill every single person in that village, which without a doubt my Chief will order me to do.” Gray’s downcast eyes were as obvious an admission of guilt as one could ever be. He would probably regret the decision he was about to make, but if that’s what it took to maintain his ideals, so be it.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

on Sat Dec 24, 2016 9:12 am
For a moment there, the world turned into a twirling blur. As the worst passed, Richard found himself upside down, awkwardly sprawled in a pile of sand. The leap through the window that was supposed to be a brilliant escape maneuver ended up being a pitiful tumble. Some wide-eyed meddler got in the way. The doctor wasn’t quite sure if he had crashed right into the fellow, but his aching head wagered yes. At least he was keen on blaming the stranger for this one... and not, say, getting his foot caught on the window pane or something equally silly. The toxic eyes finally stopped spinning and an unintelligible grumble escaped between the gritted teeth. Wonderful... Just what he needed in this chaos... More complications.

Snatching the hat from the ground, the crook struggled upright. Dusting his clothes felt admittedly futile, but he couldn’t help the habit. "Geh... At least this day can’t possibly get any worgh-!" Yes, yes it could. What cut his words into a garbled wheeze was an iron grip tightening around his throat. Always with the throat... The gun and the suitcase fell with a light thud. He wasn’t the shortest fellow around, yet the warthog-masked agent effortlessly tangled him off the ground. How did a guy of this size move so fast? The criminal could’ve sworn the opponent was... Tch, no matter... Right now he didn’t have the luxury of wondering hypotheticals.

Fueled by chemical rage, the doctor flailed fiercely. However, even enhanced he simply didn’t have the raw strength to break free. So... Plan B. On the dark desk of his mind, an imaginary book fluttered open. It ran through a list of unprotected body parts within his reach. Eyes... Arteries... [Sucker Punch] Suddenly his fist shot upwards, far faster than most eyes could track. Glass jaw! Rattled, the hog staggered backwards. His hold loosened just enough for the rat to slip free. Richard, ever the helpful fellow, assisted the swaying man with a nasty kick in the gut. It sent the masked menace backwards, right towards the meddling stranger as it happened. Pure coincidence really. And certainly not out of a petty grudge or anything. Perish the thought.

As a parting gift, the criminal chemist pulled a bright red flask from the depths of his deep pockets. It shined ominously in the sunlight, the only warning anyone would get. [Maxwell’s Cocktail] With the sound of shattering glass, a sizable fireball swallowed the agent. ...Along with anyone unfortunate enough to be in his vicinity. Scorching shards and burning liquid showered the immediate area. Even as the crimson mixture splattered against sand, it showed no signs of fizzling. Without a serious combination of stop, drop and roll, the flames would keep going for a good while.

Richard retrieved his belongings and swept the barrel of his pistol over the numerous foes. Step by wavering step he backed away. "Ahem, gentlemen...  How about we all just agree to retreat? Cut our losses, see?" His nervous glare twitched between the figures, counting. One, two, three, four and more... Aside from Gray, they were all enemies in his eyes, every single one of them. While the criminal had all but forgotten the life he was supposed to be protecting, his selfish escape attempts actually worked for her benefit. With every action, the agents focused chasing after the rat and thus moved away from the helpless patient. Mind you, he didn’t quite appreciate that particular silver lining.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

Picking himself up from the ground, Eva wondered what the hell had just happened. Rubbing his aching head, he looked around, trying to understand the situation. He saw the suited man that had so rudely crashed into him, but before he could say anything, the same man was gripped by the throat, his feet dangling off the ground. "Ho? Seems like I was right, this is interesting". Cracking his knuckles, the young man started to approach the two men. However, in a blur, the suited man was free and the bulkier man staggering backward toward Eva. Thinking to sidestep the man, Eva quickly changed his mind as what appeared to be fire exploded from something the suited man had thrown. Barely able to react, he grabbed the pig-masked man and used him as a shield, hoping to avoid some damage. Unfortunately, some of the fiery liquid got onto his arms and, panicked, he attempted to put it off by slapping the burning areas and letting go of the fiery pigman, who screamed in agony as he dropped to the floor trying to put out the fire. This apparently was a bad idea, as the fire spread onto his palms. Surprised by the liquid's persistence, Eva utilized his devil fruit powers to extinguish the flame. Countless strings emerged from his body to tightly cover the burning areas, snuffing the fires out.

"Retreat? I just got here, I want to have some fun... But I'm not really that into bullying a trembling old man, even if he happens to know a trick or two", Eva replied to the suited man, as he glanced at the still burning pools of liquid the man had thrown. Noticing that the pig-masked man had disappeared, "Where did-" Eva was interrupted, as suddenly the ground below his feet, well, wasn't. Surprised, Eva tried to extend two strings from his hands, so as to latch on the roofs of two nearby houses.  Before he was able to, however, a snake masked man emerged from the hole, punching him in the gut. Not having solid footing, Eva was flung backward and crashed into a wall. "Get lost", the snake hissed, turning his attention back to his target. Just as he turned his back,

[Tamaito]

Ten string bullets flew toward the agent's back. Only the first two found their mark, however, as the snake-masked man quickly dodged the rest and retreated underground. "Looks like that pig-guy had a friend. Is there a carnival or something?", Eva thought out loud, after spitting blood.

[Busoshoku]

Having taken significant damage from a single punch, the revolutionary went against his instincts and decided to give defense a try, this time around.
"I would advise against you meddling in our plans. If you stay out of our way, we might even turn a blind eye to you being here... After all, we have much bigger fish to fry today. Stay out of this if you value your life, Hangman." the agent's voice could be heard from underground.

"Hahaha! Bigger fish you say? Nice try, but you should try making your lies more believable. That man is hardly a plankton! Come now! Entertain me!", shouted the revolutionary commander back at the hidden agent.

As he talked, Eva planned his counterattack. Taking into consideration that the agent was able to make the ground disappear, he created a small, invisible string from his back and attached one end of it to an undestroyed part of the wall behind him, leaving the other end on his back.

[Itonoko]

Just as he had finished, the agent created a hole at the revolutionary's feet and grabbed his ankles, aiming to pull him down. Due to the unexpected resistance, and the loosely tied shoes, the agent lost his grip momentarily. Capitalizing on the opening, Eva tugged on the string on his back, sending himself flying upward and detaching it from his back. This caused the wall to break and it was sent straight toward the surprised agent. While on the air, Eva swiped both his hands toward the agent.

[Goshikito]

Ten sharp strings flew toward the agent, hidden by the falling piece of stone wall.

The agent was quick to react. Seeing the wall coming down on him, he quickly raised his hand and barely managed to create a hole in it. However, due to his vision being obscured, he was unable to react to the follow-up attack. The razor sharp wires cut the remaining pieces of the wall to neat blocks and cut deeply into the snake-masked agent, who fell down the depths of his own hole, his mask broken.

After landing next, Eva fished his shoes out of the hole and looked around, trying to gauge the current situation, a wide grin on his face.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

If the fact that Ronx was in serious danger hadn't already sunk in, it had to fast. His sudden interception had caught the Cipher Pol agent by surprise, but that was only because her attention had been elsewhere. The same mistake was unlikely to happen again, at least that's how the agent saw it. Who this silly, golden-haired man was mattered little to the agent, especially where her objective was concerned and that made him just an unnecessary hindrance. The agent struck her hand out, slamming it into the door frame just inches away from Ronx's cheek. The force of the strike made Ronx blink in surprise and all of a sudden, the frame fell into a mass of cubes. Finally sensing danger, Ronx's gaze sharpened a fraction and he struck his hand out.

[Preying Aquilam]

With a flat palm, Ronx struck into the masked agent's torso and she narrowed her eyes. The gesture seemed to amuse her, especially when nothing seemed to happen, but then an explosion of needles suddenly burst into her stomach, almost as though it came from his very palm. The masked agent grunted, but more in surprise than pain. Taking advantage of her surprise, Ronx swung around and loaded enough force into his foot to sink it into the agent's stomach. The foot made direct contact with the darts that were still protruding conspicuously from his previous attack. With a gasp from the agent, the darts sunk further into her torso, but all Ronx had managed to do was get himself further under her skin, both figuratively and literally. The bird-masked agent allowed herself to be carried backwards with the kick, but she was quick to recover. Digging her heels into the ground, she stopped just before hitting the far wall. Then, the agent lunged forward, with an index finger taut and before Ronx could even react, sharp pain blossomed from his left shoulder.

Blood trickled slowly from the wound, as if even his body hadn't quite realised yet that it had been dealt a ruinous blow. But before long, blood had filled the hole that was in his shoulder and was streaming down his body. Ronx stood wordlessly as the bird-masked agent spun away from the young man, a telltale splash of crimson trailing down her index finger. She turned away to return to pursuing her objective once more, before abruptly turning still. Slowly and silently, she turned back to face Ronx. Behind the mask, her eyes were obscured, but it was clear that they were trained solely on Ronx. In turn, his brilliant amber eyes, having lost their previous spontaneous and merry glint, were now hard with weighted fixation. A moment dragged on that might have felt like eternity to a simple onlooker, but there was a heavy aura that even the simplest could not remain oblivious to.

And then all of a sudden, both burst into action. The agent charged forward, silent and precise like an owl, while Ronx swept his right hand from underneath his mantle and it whipped open.

[Icio Pulse]

A surge of darts shot out, meeting the agent's assault front-on. She ducked under the onslaught of tiny, almost invisible missiles, only a few managing to catch her exposed neck, but the next wave quickly followed. The sound of her clicking tongue indicated at her frustration of the relentless assault of darts, but she knew they weren't intended to cause lasting damage. As Ronx kicked himself upwards and flew over his wave of darts, the agent was ready for him. Her body bent out of the way as Ronx's right fist plummeted forward and her finger struck forward yet again, this time aimed for his neck.

[Volanti Crux]

Stuck in midair, Ronx spun around and brought both his hands up, shooting out darts from each hand as he did so. From the close proximity paired with the precise timing of meeting the agent's attack, even the agent with her aptitude was caught by surprise and a cross was distinctively branded across her chest as the attack struck. Her finger only grazed his neck, but Ronx landed with a heavy and painful thud, staggering clumsily as his wounds jolted from the strain caused by his landing. The agent's leg swung low, catching Ronx in the stomach and he was sent flying back into the wall with a crash that quaked the entire house. He coughed blood as he made impact with the wall, but he was determined to allow as little of the pain to show as possible. He careened back onto his feet as blood dripped from his left temple, but his eyes were still sharp and crackled almost like lightning, as though he had yet to admit his defeat. And true to that, he hadn't. He was determined, even if it meant his inevitable death.

The agent was in front of his in a flash, ready to deliver that inevitable death. Her finger came charging forward again, but Ronx swung his leg up and it sank into his right thigh. He gritted his teeth in pain, but then grabbed her wrist. Even behind that unrevealing mask, Ronx saw her eyes widen and with her finger still lodged in his thigh, he pulled his leg back. The startled agent fell forward with his leg and with his his hand, still clamped tightly around her wrist, he aided her fall. Before long, he was on top of her with a dart pressed against her neck and blood dripping from his face, down his cheeks and onto that beautiful bird mask.

Suddenly the wall beside him crumpled. Surprised, Ronx glanced up, anticipating a new enemy but what he saw left him and his opponent speechless.

"Eva?"

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

”Who do you think I am?”

When a man’s inner rage boils over from constant taunting and tormenting, he doesn’t stop to sieve right from wrong; he simply reacts. “The Conqueror’s War” they had taken to calling Gray’s episode of this very reaction. The screams of dying soldiers… the tears of the fallen crew mates… It all echoed in his conscience every waking moment. He may not have regretted his desire to free his mother-figure from the greasy clutches of the World Government, but he certainly regretted the manner in which he went about it. The consequences of his actions had been felt through the entire world, as evident by this relatively peaceful sandy village now thrown into turmoil.

All this had started with death and destruction, and his defeated yet resolute enemy had reminded him of something his late first mate used to say. ”You can truly call yourself a hero only when your enemy realizes that you are one.” And judging by his opponent’s steadfast opinion about him, Gray was certainly no hero.

During his travels his secret had been compromised to a few Marines who had surely reported his health to their superiors. He had wondered why the World Government, in these past four years, had not made his survival known to the world. But, the answer to that question was clear as day. The Navy couldn’t afford to look weak by announcing that it had failed to dispose of one of the worst enemies of the world. There was no doubt in his mind though, that the World Government would resort to sending agents after him to dispatch him as quietly as possible. And yet, this was the first time in four years that he had seen an agent chasing after him; only they weren’t after him.

His thoughts then wandered off to the doctor. He had now realized how utterly hypocritical and meaningless his words must have sounded to a practical and pragmatic man such as himself, despite their sincerity. A man who did not wish to let life get the better of him must surely try to get the better of life, no? Surely that’s what the doctor thought. And to judge someone for this very ideology was the same as Gray judging himself, considering his own past selfish and thoughtless actions.

And so, Gray had to make a choice: let him go and uproot an entire village full of people from their ancestral home, possibly leaving them in even deeper poverty and isolation, or embrace the cynical and pragmatic ideas of those he had often scorned while sacrificing his own, which had already been compromised more than once. If he were to choose the latter, he would have nothing to lose, since he had already lost the right to preach to another about the value of life. And if he were to pick the former, he would have to carry on the facade of caring about the lives of heartless men such as his opponent, until he arrived at this same fork in the road once again.

Gray had no vigor left after his almost never-ending pilgrimage of atonement. His will had weakened from seeing the tears and hearing the cries of the loved ones of those he called family. It was time to embrace the fact that his strength was not considerable enough to let every enemy live without dire consequences. It was time to put an end to the hypocrisy and accept the fact that he was more of a killer than any man he could accuse of being one.

With his wound still bleeding slightly, he cautiously walked towards his kneeling opponent. Without another word, he thrust his blackened robotic hand through the center of his chest, causing the naked and unmasked man to spit out blood. A grim yet sad expression dominated Gray’s face, his eyes narrowed with disappointment in himself and the world.

While watching the life wither away from Bear-face's deep-green eyes, Gray's attention was once again directed towards the doctor. To his surprise, the combat had become rather chaotic, and his initial assumption that it was a five vs. one battle may have been wrong. Nonetheless, the village had suffered enough of this unwarranted pandemonium. If the fight had not ended before he returned, Gray had resolved to end it with a single blow.

Droplets of relief condensed in the edges of the doctor’s mind. At least one foe wasn’t out for his blood. Unfortunately, that soothing sensation was soon contaminated. First there was confusion. ...Did that agent just mention Hangman? Then fear. Pensively Richard’s stare inched onto the overly energetic man, already dreading the realization. Epithet... Blonde hair... Devil fruit powers... Oh. Oh heavens no. Out of all the possible people to wander here, it just had to be one of the Revolutionaries and a Commander no less. Fantastic. Of all the possible islands in the vast seas, that renegade just had to be right here, right now. What were the odds anyway? Well, so miniscule that the rat could almost hear Lady Luck laughing at him...

Many might have taken offense to being brushed off, ridiculed even, like that... But not Richard, oh no. "T-that’s right! Youngster here is talking sense, see? Don’t let this old man distract you from the real fight." Rather, he eagerly clung onto the new opportunity for deception. Anything to get these agents off his back. "This has all been a huge misunderstanding really. A series of unfortunate events, you know. I solemnly swear I am an innocent bystander here, a nameless nobody who just happens to look like someone else." It was something of a wonder the flimsy claim didn’t outright collapse the weight of sheer irony. As far as he was concerned, however, it was worth a shot.

While the agents had their hands full with other targets, the rat turned tail. He skittered away from the flying rubble and hid behind the next building. Out of sight, out of mind, as they said. If he got even the tiniest bit lucky, all the crazies would off each other and he could walk away scot-free. His nervous fingers dipped into the pocket and grasped a vial notably bigger than the others. He was running on fumes at this point and soon his chemical boost would run out entirely, but at least he still had his trump card... Granted, he didn’t really want to use it. These mixtures weren’t cheap, you know.

Carefully the criminal peeked around the corner. He wasn’t quite sure what was going on over there, but it seemed the meddlers had their foes on the ropes. Finally some good news. Now, only the vagabond was missing from the picture... Wonderfully venomous ideas brewed in his mind. He still had plenty of leverage, see? Thanks to their little deal. With just few carefully crafted words he could have his new friend... handle... the rest of the agents and those two troublemakers. Permanently. All in the name of protecting the patient of course.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

Eva's wide grin was distorted as he spat out blood, falling to one knee. "Gah... I let my guard down... That punch did a number on my internals." Still sensing a number of unknown auras, however, he quickly got back up, moving toward where he felt Alice's presence. It seemed his companion was engaged in combat, something that relieved the young revolutionary "At least he's still alive. Might need to help him, though..."

[Kenbunshoku]

Mere moments after he had started tracking Alice's location, however, a nearby wall crumbled, revealing behind it a blood-drenched Alice, on top of what seemed to be a bird-masked individual. "Oh, Alice! There you are! I hope I'm not interrupting anything." Not missing an opportunity to mess with his friend even when he bloody and beaten, Eva was ready to keep jesting when he noticed something odd. Two large blocks seemed to have started floating toward each side of Alice's head. His brain working in overdrive, Eva got a gist of the actual situation and acted as fast as he could, so as to protect his companion.

[Cocoon]
[String Tornado]

Thousands of strings came out of Eva's right hand and rushed to engulf his co-revolutionary in a sturdy cocoon.  At the same time, using his left arm, he entrapped the bird-masked woman inside a tornado of razor sharp strings. In mere moments his companion and the enemy were engulfed in string cocoons. The next instant, his companion's cocoon was broken by the bird-masked agent's attack. In just a few seconds, the agent would break through her temporary imprisonment. Eva had to act fast.

Inside the tornado, the agent once more clicked her tongue. She had tried breaking it with simple punches and kicks but only managed to sustain more cuts this way. Probably thinking that remaining in there any longer would be dangerous and certainly not wishing to waste any more time, the agent activated her Busoshoku Haki, a black glint appearing on flesh visible behind the ripped clothes. Focusing her power on offense, she easily ripped through her string confines with a single powerful kick.

[String Ray]

Seconds before the agent had broken the tornado, Eva had raised his palm and fired a condensed beam of strings, aimed at the agent's stomach. The woman, however, was much too quick. Tilting her body, she managed to avoid getting impaled, only receiving a deep cut on her side.  Drawing the agent's attention and preparing his next move, Eva hoped that his companion would have maneuvered himself and be at the ready to launch a critical attack on their enemy.

Stat Changes:
Attack: 290
Defense: 210 + 19 = 229 (Busoshoku 5 posts left)
Reflex: 330 + 19 = 349 (Kenbunshoku 6 posts left)
Willpower: 380
Techniques Used:

Cocoon
Technique Level:1
Technique Range: 10m
Technique Cooldown: 13 posts | Duration: 3 posts
Technique Description:: The user wraps the target in a cocoon, blocking all attacks <75% of the user's defense. Both attacks directed at the target or performed by the target will be blocked. Additionally, the target is unable to move for the duration.

String Tornado
Technique Level: 1
Technique Range: 10
Technique Radius: 2.5m
Technique Cooldown: 20 posts | Duration: 1-3 posts
Technique Description: The user creates many sharp strings around a target and spins them, seemly creating a tornado. While the effect is active, the target can’t move, attack or be attacked by normal attacks. Additionally, the tornado protects them from attacks with a stat of <80% of the user’s defense (blocks attacks from the target or outside). If used on an enemy, the strings close in  to damage them and anyone within 2.5m.  If used on an ally, the tornado damages anyone within 2.5m, excluding the target. After that the strings rapidly expand outward, knocking away anyone within 2.5m and defense <80% of the user’s attack.

Normal attacks refer to attacks that would require physically breaking through the strings. This does not include haki-imbued attacks.

Stringray
Technique Level:40
Technique Range: 400m
Technique Cooldown: 16 posts | Duration: 3 posts
Technique Description: The user opens his palm toward his opponent and fires a thick, fast, condensed beam of strings. The beam travels fast and is precise, but lacks in destructive power. The attack gains 20% reflex at the cost of 20% attack. After firing, the previous stat changes are cleared. The beam can then be caught and used temporarily as a whip for 3 posts, increasing attack by 20% and reducing reflex by 20%.
Cooldowns:

Tamaito ("Bullet String/Thread"):
Technique Level:40
Technique Range: 400m
Technique Cooldown: 4
Technique Description: The user points at his opponent with his index finger and fires a small bundle of strings from it, as if he were firing a gun; he can shoot up to 10 rounds from both hands simultaneously.

Itonoko (“Fretsaw”)
Technique Level: 1
Technique Range: 10m
Technique Cooldown: 6 posts
Technique Description: The user creates a sharp string, up to 10m long, which he can then attach anywhere on his body and/or the environment. The user then maneuver’s the string so that it pushes against a target, with the aim to cut it in half.

Goshikito ("Five Colour Strings "):
Technique Level:5
Technique Range: 50m
Technique Cooldown: 8 posts
Technique Description: The user swipes his hand to slash his target with five razor-sharp strings coming out from his fingers. It is possible to use this technique with both hands, creating a net-like formation. This ability is able to cut through projectiles thrown by enemies whose attack stat is <50% of the user’s attack.

A perfectly good reason to panic. [open] - Page 2 Empty Re: A perfectly good reason to panic. [open]

on Sun Jan 01, 2017 8:28 am
As the last specks of dust fell from what remained of the wall, Ronx's confusion fell away too. "Oh right, you were here too!" he chirped, his combat persona melting away to the face his revolutionary friends were so familiar with and often found exasperating. "Eva, Eva, listen, don't you think this mask is so pretty? I offered six pieces for it, isn't that a great deal? But then this lady started attacking me and she won't even put up a price! How am I supposed to negotiate if she won't work with me?" He pouted and seemed ready (and very willing) to continue unloading his mediocre dilemma onto his companion when he felt the female agent shift ever-so-slightly underneath him. His brows lifting up in surprise, he was quick to react before noticing that his partner was already steps ahead of him. Smiling with amusement down at the agent, his vision was then obscured by the thin threads that Eva conjured and the last thing the agent saw before her attack failed, was the cryptic and vexing smile.

It was barely a moment later when his defence fell loosely all around him and he now sat on the dusty ground with a whirlwind of strings in front of him. Picking himself up and carefully dusting himself off, he then warily manoeuvred himself around the tornado that now trapped the agent until he reached Eva's side. Inside the string walls, he could see the peculiar confines tremble as the agent furiously tried to pound her way out, only tainting the stringy storm with blood. The tornado was holding up excellently, but even Ronx with all his positivity could see that the fight was far from over. Nevertheless, he still tilted his head at the tornado curiously with a finger pressed innocently to his lips. "Is it over?" he asked with an almost childish tone before throwing his arms up and leaping into the air. "Yayyyy Eva's the best! Wait! Silly Eva, you forgot about the mask!" he exclaimed in dismay and turned to scold his partner before flinching. "Ouch, oh right, I'm bleeding. Eva look at this hole! It's so round! Oh...that's...Eva, do you think maybe that's too much blood coming out? How much blood do I have again?"

OOC:
Secretly wants to do the maths to figure out how much blood he has left

Suddenly the whirling strings confining the agent tore open, threads flying up into the air in a flurry. But Eva was ready, shooting out a beam of strings that pierced the agent's side. Although the attack had been intended to drill a hole into her stomach, the damage she received still appeared grievous enough. Not to mention, despite all his folly, Ronx was ready too and the attack that followed immediately after Eva had executed his, hit it's mark.

[Gracilis Lance]

Bringing up his uninjured right hand, he conjured up an enormity of darts within seconds, all tightly packed together so that they appeared to be one colossal lance. The attack was intended to be a medium ranged one, but for the purposes of maximising the force of the attack, Ronx darted forward until he was directly behind the agent that was still distracted by his revolutionary brother. Thrusting the lance into the exact same point where Eva's attack had grazed her, the darts suddenly exploding on impact, drilling themselves into her torso. However, the agent was tenacious and the majority of the darts fell away leaving only a few managing to find purchase, clinging weakly to her skin. Somersaulting away, Ronx knew he had only a few seconds to act before he had the female agent's attention back on him again.

"Buuuut...all my other attacks haven't been working," complained Ronx, carelessly voicing his woes aloud and, even more carelessly, pausing to contemplate his woes. "Eva! Why do all my attacks only seem to make her click her tongue and yours get to make her....oh that's a lot of blood. Miss, are you alright?" Suddenly, his eyes tracked down to the obsidian glint of her skin. "Eva! When did you learn to burn people! Wait...ohhhhh." The lightbulb that clicked on was almost tangible over his head as realisation struck him.

[Busoshoku]
[Kenbunshoku]

Ronx's aura spiked as the Haki flowed out from him and appeared to imbue into his mantle. However, the reality was that his darts, which were hidden perfectly in the threads of his mantle, received the Haki augmentation. "Sometimes it's so easy to forget that we can use something like this," commented Ronx cheerfully, despite the fact that he almost always used Haki to mask his presence and often did so habitually since he had acquired the skill. The agent now hesitated to have her back to him, but she seemed to expect more from the older revolutionary in front of her.

Haki Stat Changes:
Attack: 215 + 37.5 = 252.5 (Busoshoku 6 posts left)
Defense: 115
Reflex: 330 + 37.5 = 367.5 (Kenbunshoku 6 posts left)
Willpower: 375

[Debilito Dart: Winter]

As the agent pondered between the two revolutionary men, one in front of her and the other behind, Ronx shot out four individual darts. Each dart sailed through the air, taking aim at different parts of the agents body: one on either shoulder and one on either hip. It was as though instinct moved her and the agent spun around, swiping the air and the dart aimed for her left shoulder missed its mark. But the other three sunk deep into where Ronx had aimed and abruptly, a shudder passed through the agent's entire body.

Her legs gave way and she fell to the ground as they failed to comply to her will. Her eyes widened beneath the bird mask and she immediately attempted to will her legs to move, only to then realise that her right arm also flopped uselessly on her side. Arrested in panic, she appeared conclude that all control of her body had completely dissipated, but only Ronx with his perceptiveness to his own attack knew that the move hadn't succeeded entirely and that if the agent was given the time, she would realise that her faculties were still minimally available to her. However, he knew that his partner was more than capable of keeping her occupied enough. A small, enigmatic and almost unnoticeable smile played on the young man's lips as he pulled away from the masked woman, allowing his revolutionary brother to finish this battle that had drawn on for long enough.

"Wait, I forgot to tell him to spare the mask."

Stat Changes:
Attack: 252.5 - 172 = 80.5 (Debilito Dart: Winter 1 post left)
Defense: 115
Reflex: 376.5 - 66 = 310.5 (Debilito Dart: Winter 1 post left)
Willpower: 375

Techniques Used:
Gracilis Lance
Technique Level: 1
Technique Range: 10m
Technique Cooldown: 10 posts
Technique Description: Ronx brings together a multitude of darts to form a giant dart that really looks more like a lance, thus the name of the technique. Shooting the lance results to an explosion of darts on impact, all of which attack the opponent instead of dispersing.

Busoshoku
Active Bonuses: Ability to hit logia users or paramecia users immune to a particular type of attack. Bonus to either attack or defense equivalent to 10% of your willpower. Or 5% bonus to both attack and defense. The bonus distribution to attack or defense or both can only be selected upon activation, and cannot be switched while the ability is already active.

Kenbunshoku
Active Bonuses: Bonus to reflex equivalent to 10% of your willpower. Ability to mask one's own presence. (While kenbunshoku haki is active, you may mask your presence from anyone that doesn't have more than 150% of your willpower.)

Debilito Dart: Winter
Technique Level: 40
Technique Range: 40m
Technique Cooldown: 15 posts | Duration: 1 post
Technique Description: The highest level of the Debilito Dart technique and the most devastating. This technique sends multiple darts aimed at both shoulders and both sides of the hips. The effect is that the opponent will become completely paralysed in both arms and legs, resulting the opponent to become completely immobile and vulnerable for 1 post. This technique results in a -100% reflex debuff on the opponent and as a result to such a powerful technique, the user will experience -80% attack and -20% reflex.
