Personality: Zanato has never been the kind of person who has showcased laziness and he is not the kind of person that rests on his laurels either. Rather he is the representative of sloth in the heart of men through the act of apathy and indifference. His idle hands are not due to the inability or lack of desire to make a move, it is rather that he only makes a move when the outcome is beneficial to himself or the situation at large. That is to say, that his rather bothered by the situations that go on around him and he makes little effort to involve himself in such situations on a regular basis. With the sole exception to this being aiding his self interests.
His genuine indifference to acts of criminality or injustice are wholly ingrained into his persona. He likes to focus on the things that benefit him, and that is why he bothered to become a pirate in the first place. He wasn't always this way, but having been spurned by the one person he cared for most in this world, it was no wonder he found himself becoming so self-centered. He is strong enough to warrant a methodically calculated approach and his strength is showcased in his ability to either win a fight in a violent spinning single blow or to be completely overwhelmed before he even thinks to draw his weapon. - He was born into the Briss Kingdom to a shipwright and a man who acted as a contact for the Revolutionary Army, who disliked the tyrannical king who ruled the island. He was raised with the idea that the World Government and its affiliates were all oppressors of the highest magnitude and that he should stay vigilant around them.
In fact, this hatred of the World Government meant that those willingly aligning with their rule or cause were also seen to be incredulous. People whose scruples were negative in ways that he could not put into words.
Over time he would spend his free moments working with his mother, making repairs on ship vessels and learning how to draw schematics during the day time. Learning the trade of shipbuilding alongside the duties that one would undergo as a shipwright.
At night his father would take him to the yard and they would run drills no matter the weather. Putting the youth through his paces so that he could learn how to wield a sword. His father had been a rather strong individual in the past before settling down on the Briss Kingdom.
All the while he was raised alongside a young woman whom he enjoyed spending time with and whom he liked to impress with his sword skills. The two grew close with one another up until the day that she left to join the marines, he found himself lost by this detachment and he decided that the only thing he could do was learn his mother’s trade. For the next three years he would spend his time mastering his techniques in that field.
His dissatisfaction with his lot in life finally led him to join up with the New Revolutionary Army, through a contact of his father’s, sometime in his mid-teens. But his motivation for joining was to crush the group that he felt stole away his beloved comrade.
Due to a lack of a close personal tie to the cause of the Army, he never got a chance to rise up through the ranks despite joining at a young age. And it wouldn’t be until sometime when he was in the West Blue that he’d run across the devil fruit that would change his life.
Barely surviving the flavor, due to being overly dramatic at the time, he found himself instinctively understanding how to use his abilities. Putting them to use for the NRA, though doing so in a sparing manner. Never being the sort to show off his abilities too much. He didn’t want to risk being promoted after-all. He developed a manner of fighting that let him turn into a buzzsaw of sorts, spinning his way through his opponents and bisecting them in one blow.
He prided himself on his abilities and for the following years he would use them sparingly as he worked on operation after operation. Developing a flaw in his fighting style where sometimes he just never drew his blade and just let himself get absolutely clapped. A situation that he found himself in not too long after traversing the North Blue.
Ultimately ending up in a situation where he crossed the wrong man, who not only beat him down, he locked him up, transferring him to an unknown island. The price he paid for his inaction.
