Personality: Silent type yet friendly when opened up. That is the best way to describe Karl's personality in the shortest terms. But that shortest terms is just his main personality traits. Having been thrown under the bus once or twice in his life, Karl has developed somewhat of distrust in people. He may be friendly with people when he finally opens up, but that doesn't mean he is to trust each and every one of them that comes close to him. He likes to stick his nose out things that doesn't really need to involve him. That involves all sorts of fights and other shady criminal schemes that happen on streets. He wont do anything of sorts until he has been convinced enough why something needs to be done. Betrayal is something he doesn't tolerate, no matter in which form. That is what makes his blood boil the most. In his teen years, this got him into fights with other local kids. As he is right now, he tries to hold himself back as much as he can and swallow down the desire to hurt someone when he is betrayed. His dislike of betrayal reaches as far as even wanting to hurt people, who betrayed someone else. But as mentioned, he has worked on his anger and is able to maintain his cool, but everyone has their limits and so far, Karl hasn't hit his new limits yet.

Karl was born to a two no good pirates. His birthplace was on a pirate ship which sailed on East Blue seas. On the first possible moment, his parents dumped him on the closest land, which in this case happened to be Orange town. And did they dump him in some form of orphanage or some of their friend or did they sell him? No. They dumped him on the closest empty shore and that was it. It that case, anyone could have found him: some animal, some criminal, some half nut, etc. Luckily, he was found by an elderly orphanage worker. She took Karl in and raised him.
The orphanage he stayed in was small, it had about ten to fifteen children there. While in the orphanage, Karl met lots of different types of children: good, bad, sick. He got along with good kids and heck even sick kids, which luckily was the majority of the orphanage. Unfortunately, most of the bad kids evolved to become bullies, with who Karl had to live with. They were the type that liked to make the lives difficult for the orphanage kids who didn't 'bow' down infront of them. Some even resulted to toying with the good kids emotions and pretend to be their friends, only to later betray them, simply to cause more emotional and physical pain. Karl tried to keep himself out of their businsess as much as he could, but him seeing the other good friends of his get bullied by them was the pulling factor of him constantly fighting with other bullies. When most childrens personality were divided into two sectors, good and bad, then Karl was something of in the middle. Out of all his fights, he emerged out as the losing figure, as the fights were mostly against multiple opponents. But him losing his fights is what kept hardening him as he was growing up. This was aswell the thing that kept making him stronger and stronger with each passing day.
Orphanage usually has two main goals: raise the kids, or give them to people who want them. Karl was the one only getting raised. One by one, his good friends got either adopted, or they were grown enough to leave the orphanage. Although new kids came in from time to time, they were really young and as Karl was already in his teenage years, he simply found it a bit weird to be in extreme friendly terms with them. He was still like a brother figure to them. The children were like a family to them, and that was enough of reason to protect them from the annoying bullies still.
One day he was out from the orphanage, in a nearby park. In his hands, a weirdly shaped fruit. The fruit was small enough to be held in one hand. It was round like the most perfect snowball, it's base color was black but it was mostly covered with purple swirls, it also had greenish stem. He had found it from nearby tree just a bit outside from the town itself. He found it fascanating, as it was different from every other fruit there. As he was holding it and inspecting it in the park. The 'gang' arrived. The forementioned gang was just the bully kids from the orphanage. Immediately they took notice of the odd looking fruit. Without much conversation, they went at Karl, with two goals: beat the crap out of Karl just for funs, and get the odd looking fruit for themselves. This time to the surprise of the bullies, Karl fought back to them, and succeeded for some time until the knife entered in play. Unfortunately his success didn't last long, having no experience to fight back against the knife, Karl ended up getting stabbed in his left ribcage area which lead him to try to flee. The bullies were persistent and followed Karl and eventually they caught him.
Having no desire to give bullies what he found, he instead resulted to eating the fruit while he ran away from the bullies. Think back, it was idiotic, but Karl was the kind of man who just couldn't force himself to give the full 'victory' to the bullies. The fruit tasted extremely bad, felt as if it was poisoned, which lead him to slow and make him easier catch for the bullies. While he was being beat up, him crunched into the 'ball' on the ground, something happened. It probably was his instinct to defend himself, which lead purple liquid to begin forming around his body. The bullies kicking and punching him each made contact with the liquid, and it didn't take them long to give them extreme burning sensation even through their clothes. In the end, bullies fell onto the ground from pain, and so was Karl there, bleeding from his wound, through his clothes. Karl fell unconcious.
In about twelve hours, Karl woke up, back in the orphanage. His wound tended and bandaged. First time ever in his life, he was all alone in a singular bedroom in the orphanage. The room was one of the caretakers. "Why am I not with others in same room?" was his first thought. It wasn't long until the elderly caretaker, who had found him by the shore when he was still little, entered the room. Having heard from the 'victims' of Karl what had happened, she explained to Karl what had happened. It turns out, Karl had consumed the Devil fruit. What is unknown to him still, is what the fruits true powers were. Later on, Karl finally got the answer to his initial question. Karl was locked in the separate room to keep him away from the other children. In the eyes of orphanage, he was deemed too dangerous to be kept there. After two weeks of recovering in isolation, Karl was sent off from the orphanage while he was still 16 years old. The orphanage was generous enough to give him some money on his journey in the wide world.
Being an orphan, he wasn't much of a money spender and tried to save as much as he could. Instead of immediately settling down in some other city or island, he decided to travel around a bit. His journeys were mostly calm, only having the wild animals as his biggest enemy. Occasionally as he was running from the wild animals or defending himself from them, he displayed the abilities of his devil fruit more and more, mostly unconciously to himself. As time went on and the more and more unconcious usages of his power, he slowly began to get the hang of how to use them.
Karl traveled alone for nearly a year. His travels taught him the ability how to survive in rough environment. Having only spent a small bit of the money he was given, he used it to buy a ticket on a ship and travel. His destination was Loguetown. Having arrived there, he had no real goal in life, but he knew one thing. He had to get a job. And the job he got at first was a bartender's help at the local small bar. As the time went on, he became the full time bartender there, and has been working there ever since till this day. Only time will tell, will he leave the town to go and travel again.

Having only spent a small bit of the money he was given, he used it to buy a ticket on a ship and travel. His destination was Loguetown. Having arrived there, he had no real goal in life, but he knew one thing. He had to get a job. And the job he got at first was a bartender's help at the local small bar. As the time went on, he became the full time bartender there, and has been working there ever since till this day. Only time will tell, will he leave the town to go and travel again.
