Personality: Aoi is a somewhat naive young-man with a character heavily influenced by his swordsman upbringing. Although not opposed to the occasional act of mischief (i.e. pranks and the like), a penchant for pursuing fairness and moral integrity in non-combat situations is certainly a part of his nature. Not opposed to putting his life on the line for a noble cause, Aoi will often times go above and beyond the call of duty; much to the displeasure of his commanding officers.
He strongly believes the people of the world should not have to live in constant fear of their lives and is often requested to partake in community out-reach programs; specifically on islands heavily battered by extreme criminal activity where the support of the Marines regime is bar none. Despite all this — even as naive as he is most of the time — even Aoi understands not every marine has the best interest of the world in mind. The young devil fruit user with a deeply ingrained sense of morality desires nothing more than to leave a lasting positive mark on the world alongside his trusted companions. He fully intends to persevere until he reaches his long term goals.

Aoi was born to a family of swordsmen in Shimotsuki Village; a community in the East Blue. He began to study the way of the sword under the tutelage of his grandfather from a very young age. It was while learning under the elderly man’s guidance that a distinct sense of honor and responsibility was ingrained into Aoi. This, along with his eagerness to learn, allowed for his talent in swordsmanship to quickly become apparent.
While training alone behind his grandfather’s estate one day, Aoi noticed something quite strange hanging from one of the many pear bearing trees in the area. It was shaped like a regular pear, but when one looked closely, it had a completely different color and texture to that of the rest; it was very unique and had a somewhat alluring quality to it. With his interest peaked, Aoi picked the fruit from the tree using a wooden stool from his home to gain some reach. He heavily considered whether or not he should immediately report the discovery to his grandfather when he held it in his hands. Yet, in the end, child-like curiosity won and the young boy ended up taking a bite of his disappointingly bitter tasting discovery. The following day would be when his Devil Fruit abilities would begin to manifest.
Afraid of the strange occurrences that soon followed, he sought out his grandfather for advice. The elderly man was not very knowledgeable on the subject of superhuman abilities and the like, but knew something had to be done to control the power he'd developed. It was from this point onward that the secret training to master these new-found abilities began.
Aoi was suggested the idea of joining the marines by the old-man when he turned seventeen and pursuing his own path. He had already gained a significant mastery over devil fruit ability by this point, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep it a secret from the rest of the village. The idea that his abilities were too powerful to waste away not using them to their fullest was a common topic of conversation for a few months leading up to this moment. Aoi couldn’t help but agree.
He felt he could make a change in the world for the better and did not hesitate in leaving Shimotsuki Village for the nearest marine base; after a series of tearful good-byes with the people who’d watched him grow, of course.
This was where his mission in pursuit of peace began.
