First Name: Layla
Middle Name/Initial:
Last Name: Keket
Epithet:
Age: 25
Gender: Femail
Race: Human
Faction: Pirate
Profession: Thief

Physical Appearance

Height: 5’5” (1.65m)
Weight: 125 lbs (56.59 Kg)

Hair Style: Straight/Mid-Back length
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Green
Scars: Layla has a laceration scar along her throat that is about three inches long.
Clothing and Accessories: Layla usually wears a red vest or corset over a white/beige blouse that she refuses to tuck in often allowing it to billow freely at her waist. She wears black or grey tailored pants that are form fitting that allows her full range of motion along with black studded boots that have special soles that reduce noise.

Her most signature piece of attire is an oversized duster that is a dark green that is extremely worn looking and has several patches on it. Layla wears a variety of chokers at all times to hide her scar from others. Layla has stud piercings that she usually puts different kinds of gem earrings into depending on her mood. Occasionally she will wear a variety of bracelets and rings when she feels there is no work to be done along with some necklaces if she feels no one is around to see her without her choker.

Layla keeps several dresses hidden that she loves but refuses to wear in front of the rest of the crew.

Description: At first glance Layla is a dainty looking woman with porcelain like skin that gives her a sort of delicate beauty. However her green eyes reflect a rigidness that betrays this assumption of fragileness. Her black hair is naturally fine and straight, growing to the middle of her back and allowed to fly freely. Her face shows no unnatural blemishes or scars unlike the rest of her body allowing her to hide her to easily gain the trust of those unaware of her criminal history. However a three inch long scar runs along her throat that is jagged as if the instrument that caused it wasn’t finely honed at all.

Layla’s body is lithe and has been trained to be unnaturally flexible allowing her to contort her body at will without much pain. Her strict training regimen focused on this aspect along with toning her body instead of bulking up for brute strength. Her arms and legs are finely toned and only show musculature when she is exerting herself. Along her fingers are small knicks and cuts from all the time she has spent practicing with blades in her youth and her fingertips are calloused. There are various scars, burns, and exit/entry wounds on her arms, legs, and body from close calls in her early life.

The Past

Main Traits: Vindictive, Methodical, Quiet, Asocial, Cautious
Likes: Self-Discipline, Freedom, Silk linens, Chocolate Pudding, Competence
Dislikes: Addicts, Naivete, Backstabbers, Debt/Owed Favors, Overconfidence
Unique laugh: Layla’s smile is accompanied by her shoulders actually relaxing and a shaking of her head.

Hometown: Alabasta Kingdom - Yuba
Personality: As a mute woman Layla is naturally quiet, though she has taken this a step further by being completely asocial. The woman tries to make sure she stays out of the spotlight, naturally fading into the background and refusing to make herself the center of attention. These traits were drilled into her growing up as a thief and only grew more intense as she learned to rely on herself over others. Layla is extremely individualistic and will often refuse to ask for aid if she believes she can do something on her own which has landed her in trouble more than she’d ever admit.

Due to her propensity to work alone, Layla has developed a constant habit of watching her surroundings for escape routes and potential tails. Distrustful of others unless proven to be trustworthy, Layla presumes everyone around her as an ulterior motive which has caused a sort of paranoia to develop within the young woman’s psyche. For this reason she refuses to partake in any sort of recreational activity that can inhibit her mind as she can’t trust those around her to not take advantage of her. This is reflected in her blatant disgust for those who have lost themselves to such vices instead of facing their reality head on.

In combat or on a job, Layla is completely serious and does her best to be as efficient as possible. This often means brutal and immoral tactics or plans are sometimes enacted if it means securing victory. Layla isn’t above using whatever is at her disposal to get the job done, and this isn’t something she is ashamed to display to those she works besides.

Only when in the company of people she trusts does Layla ever truly relax, often allowing herself to indulge in the small things she can’t when being constantly on edge. She’ll often close her eyes and simply listen to the voices of those she trusts as they conversate with one another or simply listen to the ambience of the room. It’s in these kinds of situations that Layla will also shed her duster and allow herself to stop hiding from the world.

History:

Born screaming on the scorching grains of Sandy Island, Layla was the product of a fling between two criminals. In her earliest memories, Layla was always left alone with just enough food to not starve. Left to her own devices Layla would often roam the streets of whatever town her mother left her in, playing games with other children, singing along with street performers, and gazing in wonder at random wares and stands. This would usually end with Layla wandering back to whatever cheap room her mother had for them waiting for her mother to return home.

This cycle would repeat for a few years until Layla was ten years old when her mother never returned. After a week of waiting the young girl ran out of food and began begging on the street. She got by on scraps but was quickly becoming emaciated as she wasn’t getting nearly enough to eat. By the end of her second month living on the streets, Layla was barely able to get up by her own strength. Layla thought she was going to die until a boy a couple years older than her found her and gave her some food and water.

The boy, Paki, took Layla under his wing and taught her how to live on the streets. The two would steal food and pocket change from passing merchants, drunkards passed out on the street, kitchens that left their back doors open and other businesses. As the years passed Layla grew more skilled in pickpocketing and had even started learning how to lockpick from other petty thieves. The pair became inseparable and would grow to rely upon one another completely.

Once the duo were in their teens they had managed to join a small time criminal organization that was looking for fresh talent. Layla and Paki had impressed them with their resourcefulness and skills at breaking and entering, securing themselves within this new group, Golden Dust. The two began to rake in a steady income thanks to their roles within the group funneling jobs that fit their skill set more and more often. Eventually the two decided to start specializing in complementary roles to ensure they’d be as effective as possible. Layla began training herself to be as agile and silent as possible for more difficult jobs that required finesse and perfect timing. Paki began to work on strengthening himself as well as establishing contacts with individuals in positions of interest for future jobs.

By the age of 21, Layla was the most accomplished thief within Golden Dust and her partner Paki the most successful spy and planner. Therefore when a job came in to steal an extremely valuable treasure from a wealthy merchant in Alubarna, the duo immediately took the job. The heist was extremely dangerous so Golden Dust had decided to invest in their star thief by offering her an extremely valuable gift, a Devil Fruit. Layla was wary to accept but Paki convinced her to accept. This particular fruit was the Nuke Nuke no Mi, which allowed it’s user to turn intangible which was perfect for a thief like herself.

Wary of this unfamiliar ability, Layla decided to only use the ability in case of an emergency instead of relying on it. It wasn’t long before the night of the heist was to take place. The duo were prepared and had invested nearly all of their resources into this one job in hopes of a grand payout. The duo parted ways with little said between the two, to them it was just another job.

Unknown to the duo, a member of Gold Dust had betrayed the organization and sold out the entire operation to the merchant being targeted. This ended up with Layla being lured deep within the building led straight into a trap. Sea water was poured into a sealed room she had walked into, causing her to immediately lose her strength allowing her to be easily apprehended. Layla, unfamiliar with the weaknesses of being a Devil Fruit user, was in shock and only regained her senses after having Sea Stone cuffs slapped on her.

Layla was then taken to an undisclosed location and left alone for days without any food or water. On her third day of being isolated, the woman was resolute to not reveal anything and wait for a chance to escape. Layla was then interrogated with the promise of an abundance of food and water upon any information leading to Gold Dust and it’s members. The thief refused to speak unless it was to insult her captors. Thus Layla was only given enough water to not die of thirst.

After a week of this being uncooperative and belligerent her captors decided to switch to more drastic forms of interrogation. They began to beat and torture the woman, all while asking for any information on her organization and it’s members. Layla refused to comply and simply screamed in pain as her captors continued their interrogation. This would go on for a month and the torture would only grow more intense and inventive as Layla refused to give in. Her voice quickly grew more and more hoarse as she screamed in pain until her throat was raw each day.

It wasn’t long until Layla withdrew into her own head and began to act lifeless to escape the pain that was her life in captivity. The woman would eventually only gasp in pain, never letting any screams escape from her throat. Layla once again grew emaciated as she refused to eat and had to be forced to drink water.

After a total of three months Layla had begun to worry that she’d never escape. Her captors hadn’t given her a single opportunity to escape, her strength was gone even beyond the Seastone cuffs she had on her, and she was beginning to wonder if they would give up on getting any information on her and simply kill her. One day her cell door opened and the familiar sound of boots on the ground could be heard, however there was an additional set of footprints this time.

Layla lifted her eyes from her fetal-like position on her bed only to see Paki as a shadow of his former self. Her partner had dark circles just like her own around his eyes, his impressive physique had disappeared, his face was covered in months worth of unkempt facial hair, and his eyes reflected the same lifelessness her own showed. The man was tossed into her cell and the guards left them alone.

The thief was unsure what to do and simply stared at her Paki cautiously, unsure if it really was him. The man crawled into the corner opposite of hers and simply sat in it listlessly. The two remained in silence for a few hours until the sound of footsteps reached their cell once again. This time a finely dressed man flanked by his guards had reached their cells and looked down at them, blatant disgust on his face.

The affluent looking man offered them both a chance to live but there was a caveat if they wished to take his offer. One would have to kill the other to impress him. Layla’s eyes slowly drifted over to Paki who met her eyes, their life together flashed through her eyes and she realized that she couldn’t do it. However Paki did not share the sentiment and he slowly got to his feet. The man finally spoke but to Layla’s dismay it was to apologize for what he was about to do. The thief didn’t register the urgency of the moment until her partner smashed the bowl used to hold their water against the wall to create a blunt edge on it.

Layla barely managed to raise her arms to deflect the initial attacks but couldn’t stop a majority of jagged cuts from being inflicted on her body. Eventually she felt too weak and felt her cuffed arms drop to the side exposing her to Paki’s desperate attempts to murder her. The man placed the edge of the broken bowl against her throat and slowly started putting all of his weight into it. Layla could feel her throat being constricted and eventually the dull edge actually began cutting into her neck. The sensation of blood pouring from her neck and the panic of being suffocated gave Layla one last burst of strength. She wrapped her legs around Paki and swung him off of her and found herself on top of him.

The thief then began to use her Sea Stone cuffs to start bashing his face with all her strength. The woman kept smashing, hearing his nose break more and more with each swing, his shouts of pain and agony, felt as his cheekbones buckled under her cuffs, felt the slick blood and other viscous materials flying onto her hands and face from each blow, the burning of teeth scraping her hands in a vain attempt to stop her assault, and eventually the final jolt of Paki’s body beneath hers as she caved in his skull. The whole time Layla remained silent as tears and snot poured down her face mixing with her own blood and Paki’s.

The affluent man looked on with an entertained expression and told his guards to clean up both the criminals and to release Layla. They had to drag Layla out of the cell and away from where she was held for the past few months. Layla was eventually drenched in water, had her head bagged, and was transported blindly for some time. She was then released of her cuffs and had the bag removed from her head to see the night sky above her and dunes all around her. The guards then threatened to kill her if she followed them and left her alone in the middle of the desert.

Layla wandered aimlessly in a stupor, constantly stumbling, and even walking in circles on occasion. It wouldn’t be until the sun was beginning to lighten the sky that a traveling caravan spotted her in the distance and diverted to intercept her. This group of travelers took Layla in assuming she was the victim of some hideous crime. They cleaned and bound all her wounds, fed her and gave her water, and even allowed her to change into clean clothes.

The thief stayed with this caravan, taking the time to recuperate and slowly cope with the fact that she had been freed at the cost of her partner’s life by her own hands. Layla would split with the caravan at Nanohana, taking a few things she’d managed to swipe easily from her kind saviors. She then began to steal the essentials she’d need to be comfortable along with enough money to at least rent a room somewhere. Within a week's time Layla was comfortably nestled in a rundown room and had already eyed a few places she could hit to work on building a reputation and some ill-earned berries.

During this time Layla slowly came to a realization that she was unable to speak despite wishing to, she hadn’t noticed immediately before and was shaken by it. It was physically painful to attempt to do so and even through the pain she couldn't muster a single syllable. It was a horrifying revelation, compounded with all the scars across her body, the constant nightmares, and knowing she’d brutally killed Paki, Layla became absolutely furious with how everything had gone wrong.

Layla swore she’d get revenge against the man who’d taken everything from her. The thief trained in private to regain her body’s strength and began practicing with daggers and throwing knives in hopes of having a chance of returning the favor to the two men who tortured her for months along with their master. In addition she began experimenting with her new powers, realizing how useful it could be if she actually had the element of surprise and knew what she was capable of.

It would take two years for Layla to be satisfied with her physical conditioning past what she once had, have basic mastery over her Devil Fruit abilities, and to gather information on the man who’d held her captive while planning his assassination.

To her dismay the man who’d she’d sworn against was an extremely powerful and well connected individual. One who had more contacts than she feared and had heard about her inquiring about himself and his whereabouts. In retaliation a local bounty was put out to the underworld of Alabasta for her head. Layla realized that without any resources or contacts that she’d be killed for sure and decided that her revenge would have to wait.

The woman settled all her accounts and made her way to the ever busy docks of Nanohana. The thief snuck onto a ship that seemed rather lax in security and figured that with her Nuke Nuke no Mi that she could easily keep hidden aboard the vessel. Little did she know that the ship she would sneak upon would be none other than the Big Time, home of the Primetime Pirates.

Two notes. One, goddamn this was edgy as fuck. But I liked it. Secondly, you stowed away on the Big Time not the Dead Air, but since I was not on last night I'll give ya a pass. Not a big detail, not enough to dismiss the entire app over in my humble opinion.

Little did she know that the ship she would sneak upon would be none other than the Dead Air, home of the Primetime Pirates.
