Episode Details:

Some Years Ago

This... As the birds flew far and away, miraging onward to more pleasant waters as nature ran it's wicked course.

Just... To watch out at the countless, turning tides where stray ships sailed along only to keep their distance a fair ways from the island in question... An island of infamy.

Sucks... Happened to be the negative cloud of emotions that came from a strolling and recently turned 18-year old 'Pirate.'

Walking along by the beach had been this singular pirate... For this singular pirate was a new-comer to the field of piracy.

A wild and turbulent landscape of scorched earth and destructive individuals all of whom were filled with dreams, desires and aspirations for the greater-wide world!

...

But this 'one' - Looking down from the skies above, gazing downward appeared a series of black-feathered yet white-body bodies birds flew in large, flickering flock. These birds were native to the South Blue but only moved in mass flocks' at very certain times of the year.

'Great Change Flows The Black N' White Birds Of The Sea.' A saying that held true to this very, singular day... But it wasn't as if these images of a times' change made real were simply myth.

These had been living and breathing animals... Animals that could feel fear, pain, hunger... Exhaustion.

For this flock held a weak link... One of the birds was fading away, much smaller than the rest and seemingly younger as well given the coloration and pattern of it's feathers' hadn't come into a 'full-bloom' as it were.

The little-creature was linger off in a bid of weakness, unintentionally so... But it was pushing itself hard!

It's little eyes' were fading, it's wing flaps were slowing down... And in time... It's eyes' faded over... It's wings stilled and it had... Given out.

...

Entering something of a freefall as it's speed had gotten faster and faster til it's little body had struck the waters' of the ocean.

Roused from it's exhausted-induced sleep, the little creatures' eyes' snapped open and it had begun to panic... Flapping it's wings proved to be a tactic of an 'useful' tactic considering all of the rampant waters around it.

*Chirp! Chirp!* The small animal let out a set of chirps, instinctive calls out for some aid or at least to communicate with those of its' kind. A cry for desperation, for need!

...

A large, stripped-fin escaped the water that caused the black n' white bird to pause in a instinctive fear... For as great and bountiful as the water was... It was both a dangerous and murderous place if one was to linger there for too often.

...

*Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!* The birds' panic was clear, it's eyes' blaring over with an immense blur of fear and anxiety overcoming it. It's water-covering feathers gave it not ability to rise from the waters' surface at all and it's unskillful treading had only caused it to rise and sink, losing vital bits of air as it lose track of the fin.

...

...

..*Fwoosh!* The surface of the water was shattered by the rising maw of a colossal, striped shark! Sharp teeth and massive jaws properly a huge, devour chomping at the small bird!

*CHIRRRRRRRRRRRP!* Something of a high-pitched shout of scream was done as the little bird could only watch as the final moments of its' life... From it's birth, from growing alongside it's siblings under the eye of it's mother... To it's first hunted meal... To the first time it began to fly.

...

All of it came... However... Behind the likes' of a figure... The hunting-fish hadn't know... The bird hadn't know... But a glint of metal and wild-chop as the water was slammed apart in a furious boom of force!

...

...

The sight of the bird, the fish and metal had disappeared....

*Fwoooosh.*

Parting the waters' appeared a muscled-humanoid - Absurdly large and semi nude from the top-down revealing a bare torso... Wet-locks of hair fell over their face, stumpy formations of bone protruding from his brow and a stern yet very chiseled face hefted up a white-eyed and decently-sized fish in comparison to his bold hefty in comparison.

Hand grabbing it's tail-fin and housing a bloody-dripping axe of a savage make, a subtle grunt was sounded as a small grin became a large-one after examining the hefty beasty in hand.

This was a proper meal!

...

Peering downward at the white-eyed, water-flowing out of mouth, unconscious bird in the water that had been near the mysterious man.

Or rather; that same pirate that we spoke of earlier.

He scratched his chin... Holstering his large-weapon on a belt-loop before picking up the creature with ease - It didn't even fill up the large man's hand but he was gentle enough as to not crush in his grasp.

"Claclaclacla! Fish n' a bird in one trip! A fine treasure for me!" Exclaiming out with a bold grin, this was one way to start the day on this island.

The island of Centaurea... The island of pirates and criminals.

And the island... Of Ashten N' Xtorm!

"Aaaaaand...finished." With a dreamy sigh and a puff of spiced smoke the last few strokes of the brush made their mark on a canvas held up by a stained and obviously travel-worn easel. The wooden legs holding it up had obviously been repaired many times over to various degrees of success. Still, after quite a bit of adjusting it seemed to hold straight for as long at the Mink needed.

'-P I K A S S O-'

It was a signature that could be found in the corner several new paintings that had shown up on a few of the nearby islands with not a soul to claim their creation. That was how she preferred it, anyways. Not like she had a place to store her art while she travelled, and it only seemed right to return the piece (which was nearly always made of materials 'borrowed' from nearby towns or villages anyways) to the landscape that inspired the work in the first place.

Centaurea had been more of an accidental detour from Aya's picturesque plans, but that in itself was part of this lifestyle. She had let go of worrying about much at all a long time ago and it had become easy to distance herself from the nagging expediency that Lesser Minks seemed to be rocketing through their daily lives with.

Still, it wasn't really the sort of place one dreamed about painting. The whole place stunk of char from the very first breath she had taken as she scampered out from below the deck of the boat she had been stowing away on. Those sailing had been some sort of thieves trying to find a place to pawn off a few meager ill-gotten goods to whoever was close enough and dumb enough to buy for the prices they boasted to each other about seeking. Yes, it turned out that more often than not people would distract themselves with their busy comings and goings enough to ignore any hint of a phantom presence.

Painting as soon as the sky first lightened in the morning meant that she could relax a little more in a place like this. It seemed like the sort of people taking shelter here wouldn't be the kind to wake up early. Hangovers weakened even the earliest of risers and with the ruckus and chaos of the night before she couldn't imagine anyone had gotten any real rest aside from herself. She had thought she heard squabbling and a scuffle in the night, but the spot she had managed to squirrel herself away into to sleep had been secluded and particularly cozy...

Finding a place interesting enough to paint in the morning had been more of a chore than with  any other landscape she had come across. One could only peer at rubble and ruin for so long without concluding it obviously wasn't the most eye-catching subject. Haunting, maybe. In fact, that was how she would describe this finished art; Haunting. What had happened on this island, anyways?

A clear paw dried and packed the brush back out of view. Inhale. The breeze pushed back into her form, giving just a hint of the features of the soft fur of her face as light grey smoke rolled over her person and then dissipated into the air. The piece would take a little while to dry, but that didn't mean she couldn't get moving. The easel broke down and joined the rest of her supplies in her backpack and she stuck the painting to the back of the pack to air dry. The smoke of her cigarette snuffed out on the bottom of her heel and she quickly pocketed the remaining materiel. No sense leaving things worse than they were.

As the invisible Mink meandered away from the ruins she had found her muse in she couldn't help but be drawn towards the shore. This island didn't have much to offer her. The landscape was barren and scarred and those occupying the island didn't seem the types to take kindly to unannounced company from the bits and pieces of talk she could pick up while still steering clear of most of the lot.

Her boots hit the sand, making curious little indents as she walked closer to the shore. In the drier sand the movement might have just been the shifting of dunes, but once she got a bit nearer to the water the obvious imprint of a the heel and toe of a small boot punctuated every step.

As Aya lifted her gaze from the sand below she found herself staring up. Ahead there seemed to be something, no, someone up ahead on the beach. And before her very eyes, that someone seemed to be attacking the sea and holding some large creature victoriously as he towered above a mere twenty feet away. She squinted; was that a bird in his hand? The whole scene was perplexing enough to leave her frozen in place. Even knowing he couldn't see her, she couldn't help but feel as if being still gave her a better chance to go unnoticed by the large figure who seemed to be well enough caught up with his gains.

Perhaps there was a way to get around all this confusion and head towards one of the boats probably still moored further up the shore. The Mink's gaze shifted imperceptibly from the person before her to the creature in his hand. It didn't seem he was the one to cause its lack of consciousness. What was this guy even up to? The transparent spectator watched on curiously, trying to figure out how much of a threat to her relaxing morning this really was.

Just off and near the coastline - the much larger than your normal humanoid had begun his long-walking back to the land. A smile on his face as an audible rumble came from his torso that caused to him to chuckle at him where he'd begun to drag alone the hefty and slain shark-like fish in tow.

"Bout time, I got some food... Been a long two days." A rumbling mutter where his smooth lips parted and he had then spoken to himself as he continued along, his eyes' closing for a moment as he'd begun to ponder and think to himself in an unconscious spur of the moment action to recall as to what had been happening. Rushing swarms of new victors had been arrived on the island in droves at times, the stubby-horned Oni wasn't blind or dim. He knew something more extreme was going on in the background.

Overall; Centaurea was more or less... Complete and utter wasteland at times in the South Blue but it was still home despite all of the strife, trouble and fighting that the big-man had to deal with growing up here by his relative lonesome... B-But he was alright! His trusty axe had gotten him through life and now that he just turned 18 years old, he could finally experience booze!

*Fwoosh! Fwoosh! Fwoosh!* Only for the splash of the waters that surround him in immense quantities came rumbling and collided with him that caused him to laugh out in his odd and unqiue laugh once more... "Claclaclacla! Damn! I'm just day-dreaming today! Claclaclacla!" An audible roar exploded from him as it roused the bird in his hand to wake up, it's eyes' blinking as it sat up in this lazy and uncertain way only to stop as it looked at the figure who caused this.

...

"Eh? Hello, Birdie... Ready to join me for some breakfast?" His smile was there but to the poor animal... THIS MONSTER WAS GONNA EAT IT!... Had been the thought process that riddled it's poor, small form which the Oni could watch in surprised as the coloration of it's feathers had suddenly inverted, it's eyes' had gone white again and a strange foam arouse from it's mouth in a wafting pool of gunk and such.

...

Almost in a one-two fashion, it fell unconscious in a stupor when it fell backwards... The foaming and twitching had only caused for the Oni to laugh even louder than beforehand as whoever was on the shore of Centaurea could hear a unqiue laugh rumbling out from the great beyond as it were. Solely because one guy who had been 'fishing' was laughing his rear off because of a funny little bird.

But parting the tides that sway and came crashing into the beach, at the moment - this larger than life humanoid whose was large and tall enough that the water despite deep it was only reached upward to his waistline, walking along as his feet came down onto the waters' beneath the surface without being interfered or hampered in the slightest.

Til his feet reached the sandy and tossing beach, water dripping and dropping from his entire form as the slain fish was half of his height in length and nearly as wide... A set of bulky-trousers were utterly soaked and a soft-shake as he shivered came along.

The big-man kept on walk only to stop as his eyes' narrowed for a moment, darting off in some random direction before speaking to himself... "What the? I swore I saw something... *Gurgle* ... It can wait after food, however! Claclaclacla! " Yelling out as he brought alone the freshly-hunted beastie and who knows... Perhaps the bird might be for something else.

---

Some Time Later

The Oni - One by the name of Ashten was sitting down - By a massive bonfire even in comparison to himself as he had swapped out his soaked-clothes for something of a leather-like kilt but right now - He was patiently waiting for his food to finish cooking. A hulking skewer of grilling fish and strange-vegetables that ranged from red pumpkins to oversized coconuts as the hefty-branch was turning color to a black as the skewer was being rotated by a somewhat primitive but finely built spit-roast over the fire.

Near and away - The same bird, now with a inverted color pattern compared to before was laying on a stack of leaves as if they were a makeshift bed and was snoozing... But... It's peak twitched.

Whatever this guy was cooking... It was one of kind smell and it smelled very, very good!

A large rumble shook Aya's small frame as she watched on. Of course this wasn't a normal Lesser Mink, not at that size, and his laughter made that rather obvious. Moments like this were cherished in the Mink's mind; This was something she'd never experienced before! Despite the excitement, the inherent danger of intermingling with the world of the visible was never far from her mind. Watching and waiting was almost always the best choice.

Even considering the vast difference in size, there was something about the Oni before her that reminded her a bit of her older 'kid' brothers. For a minute she could have sworn that he looked in her direction, preemptively making her fur fluff as she readied herself to run. Luck was on her side as his great stomach growled and distracted him from the line of thought, earning a soft sigh of relief from the Mink. The almost indistinguishable sound was quickly followed by a quiet grumble from her own stomach. How long had it been since she had eaten? At least a day for certain, but this place didn't seem like it was brimming with food and her fishing skills were greatly impeded by a hesitance to approach the ocean too closely.

Watching the Oni put together a massive fire was intriguing to say the least. Pikasso had never been one to mind watching people too much but since her travels any concern about being 'rude' by watching others had fallen completely by the wayside. Watching unknowing subjects was just a symptom of removing herself from the perception of a majority of people.. It was the separation between perceived reality and the truth, and Aya was a strange living example.

Soon her curiosity brought her closer. Perhaps it was a dumb decision, but the demeanor of the man now sitting by the fire and the wafting scent of cooking fish and vegetables was an almost comforting siren song she could hardly deny. Besides, if something went wrong she was sure she could get away faster than he could make sense of things. To most, the surprise of finding something unseen was there all along was enough to cause at least a slight pause of confusion.

Surely he could spare a bit of his meal! And with the way the bird had been nestled into a faux-nest beside the flames... it didn't seem this man was just a ruthless killer. Choosing whether it was easier to reveal herself or take what she needed was always a bit of a moral quandary. If she paid enough attention and gave it time she was sure she could sneak a bit of that fish for herself without him noticing much... but the emptiness of her stomach made it a ticking time bomb for growls of hunger.

Still a few feet away, Aya made her choice. Or rather, compromised her choices. A dark pair of round shades, a dark velvet beret, a billowing black and white striped sweater, as well as a few messy paintbrushes still tucked into the front pocket of the deep grey overalls faded into view. The person's actual body, however, remained clear as Pikasso stood to one side of the fire just a few feet away. The hat and glasses moved slightly, giving the impression she was peering over and up towards the Oni.

"Are... youteia going to eat that all?" It was a quiet inquiry, just barely audible above the crackling flames, and slightly hoarse from a lack of speaking. As if on que, the sleeves of the sweater reached back towards a large, olive green backpack that now came into view, procuring a mostly-full bottle of deep red wine. Even the sizable bottle was dwarfed in comparison to present company, sloshing against the deep green glass as she held it up towards him. "Care to trade?" It was a meager offer, but it was what she had on her.

*Crack. Crack. Crack* Watching with an almost predatory-glint in the large eyes of this one Oni. Watched with an intense, serious look in those grey orbs of steely concentration, examining nearly every bit of this potential meal had caused Ashten's lips to water. A set of intense streaks started to form, dribbling faster than the enticing scent of food. Ignoring the sensations that'd cause discomfort and improper etiquette at this moment but he hadn't exactly need to worry. This Oni male was alone! Just as this titan's forcibly clenched mouth as he'd been patiently waiting for what felt so long.

Ashten's grey orb had latched into the center of the flame, the rotating being his make-shift spit-roast as he was beginning to see the 'good' part... The juiciest parts of the fish were coming to final form! *Bsssh. Bsssh. Bsssh.* As the shark-like creatures' scales had begun to break away from the body where the fire was directly hitting placed. As if it was peeling away because of flame's heat but its flesh beneath was utterly riddle with grilling, flame-seared meat. The pumpkin-like vegetables had transferred coloration from a sunburnt orange to a strange lemon-tinged yellow, and sets of robust coconut items had their outer shells utterly burnt to a crisp as the stick used for the skewer was beginning to strain.

"Yes! My meal has finished cooking. Time to eat!" A firm bellowing voice caused the sand to shift, the flames of his hand-crafted bonfire to flicker. Lastly and the most important thing to occur because of that shout. The poor bird in question. The very same that had been resting atop this makeshift and comfortable nest intended for it. Brighting up from its exhaustion-induced rest and wide-eyed at the moment. To what discover in its view point. Had been the same man that slew the beast which had almost devoured it, a fire that was cooking something, an unknown environment to the migration creation.

Gazing with a muffled chirp... It had done so and saw those great hands. Ones that were drying off from a seabound journey then reached out. An audible sound from those fingers wrapped. Constricting as it then gripped the item and the arm began to flex. Lifting such a burdensome and large item compared to the bird's size by a wide margin. Noticing that it was the same skewer. One that was being utilize, vital in preparing up the 'food' for this beast of a humanoid... The food just happened to be that same creature which almost ate it! A flickering glint appearing in the birds' eyes' - A corner of it noticed n flash came afterwards!

*Sluuuub.* It saw as a hefty slab of the grilled fish start to peel off in a perfect matter that was only snatched up in a leaf by the reactive Oni. Grasping up the main part of the meal, the vegetables were taken from the skewer alongside peeling them revealing a doughy center from the coconuts and piping-hot pumpkin-like mash!

"Here's your bit, birdie." The tone of this smiling lad was heard... The bird's eyes went wide and it had wisely walked over. Hopping with a renowned intelligence where its eye came over, examining this offer and the one who had done so. He'd begun to fix his food from the skewer that was an even heftier amount... It reached down and peaked away, it was hot but... But... But... SO GOOD!

Its eyes' sparkled where Ashten let out a low chuckle after seeing this but paused when he heard a voice... Tilting a head over and gazing off at the person who spoke. They'd been this... Small... Fully... Furred... Person? Brow was utterly raised in confusion at this new individual that happened to grace his bonfire as he'd started to heat up at the moment. A stray hand as he kept an eye on them had latched onto a large gourd of some kind. Wielding his teeth like a weapon as he popped off the gourd's cork before Ashten happened to place it into his lap.

Only to take a large swig of the mysterious liquid within as he kept on looking and hearing their words...  Which popped his lips off opening and found his eyes widen at the offering. *Fwoosh!* Spit-taking as a huge spray of booze was expelled and the Oni let out a laugh as the feminine figure whose voice was becoming more clear to Ashten spoke up. "Offer me booze for a Meal and Company?! Get ya butt over here and eat with me! Claclaclaclaclacla!" Practically slapped his free hand on the ground beside him as he waited for the figure to join. Preparing a leaf of food for this visitor whilst the bird observed with a curious look as well but it was enjoying its food as well.

Perhaps this guest was just as nice?

A sizzling spit of booze sprayed in towards the fire before Aya's eyes, two large fluffy white ears piqued and twitching slightly at the sight of the chaotic meeting of droplets and flame. It was times like these she was glad the dark glass of her lenses hid away the surprised narrowing of her pupils. After a small moment of stun and a twitch of her nose, a slight smile spread over her dark lips. Fate was on her side today, it seemed! A few shuffles of her feet through the shifting sands brought her just about as comfortable as she was getting to a stranger, let alone one much larger than she. She decided to settle in with his other guest; the curve of her tail lining one side of the cobbled nest as she put herself on the other side of the bird from him.

"...That is quite a catch youteia pulled in." After a soft clearing of her throat, she settled into her seat in the sand and reclined back with a sigh. She let the large rucksack fall from her shoulders into the sand to one side of her tail and let herself rest back against the weight of it after she had assured the fresh painting was set by the wayside. She had seen some interesting fishing methods in her time, but none quite like what she had just witnessed. The meat he had procured and set to cooking made her mouth water, but she tried to curb her hunger pangs and instead leaned around the bird to set the bottled offering closer to her new campfire compatriot.

"Sorry I've only got one bottle to offer. Can't stand the clamor that comes with traveling with two. "  Aya explained away with a small wave of her hand, pulling a black box with a skull and crossbones design on the front and gold filigree designs along the edges. She plucked up a cigarette from within between two claws before offering the box to the Oni casually. "You don't smoke, do you?" She gave a soft laugh under her breath as she held one of the dark black sticks between her lips. With a sparking snap, she lit it with the ends of her fingertips and gave a soft exhale of sweet-spicy smoke. She wasn't even sure if someone of his stature could enjoy something so small, but she thought it was only polite to make the offer.

Her gaze met with the bird's over the lenses of her glasses for a few fleeting moments. It didn't seem to be too bad off despite all the close encounters and now it even had a meal. Aya was grateful for the opportunity to eat and waited patiently as she watched him get her a portion. It was probably more than she needed but she wasn't about to complain. She'd accept something that smelled this good with open arms any time of day, and any company that wasn't immediately put off or angered by her sudden intrusion was good company in her book!

"I see I'm not your only fireside companion." It was a little hard to tell in the quiet of her voice but the tone carried just a hint of playfulness. In reality, she hadn't seen a bird of this kind so close to anyone before, let alone an Oni. If her hands hadn't already been occupied with food she would have gone to grab a sketchbook, but instead peeped over the finer details of the creature with an icy gaze. A few sketches from memory drawn later with a full stomach would be enough to satisfy. " 'Birds of a feather,' eh? The little guy looks like he has places he'd rather be."

A deep inhale fueled a twist of soft gray smoke as it curled up towards her nose only to fade before her eyes. One ear kept cautiously trained towards the large stranger, trying to mark any sudden movements that could prove to be hostile. She wasn't one to easily let her guard down when it came to most, and it showed as her ears twitched with every word he spoke. " Thanks for letting me flock to your meal, big guy."

Just as the flames' enhanced by the booze roared to life, a blast of warm air wafted outwardly. The heat was more intense when the Oni lean backwards, placing his hands down to balance himself as he sat crossed-legged at the moment. Waiting for a moment as the fire naturally relaxed from the once explosive rise in size and power caused by an excitable male, Ashten peered over to get a look at the figure who had begun to get somewhat 'comfortable' if one could say as they took a graceful, elegant seat in contrast to the ace-stealing lounge but they're appearance, however...

then, he thought of himself as the unique thing in these waters. Hell, a majority of people didn't grow nearly as tall or seemed to be nearly as heavy as he was given the number of brutal tussles and scraps that he's been engaged in years alive... And yet, not a one looked anything like this woman. No one had this much fur but could hold a conversation like a person. No one ever had a tail that was as bushy as one of those cats in the arms of those weird gang leaders in the Islands' interior. Well, Ashten's mind flickered back and a hand reached up to touch the nubs of his horns... No one liked the kid with the horns even after everything he did to hide them... But now?

Smiling to himself as he shook his head, the Oni might let them grow out for once!

But nibbling away with a twinkle of joy and pleasure at the moment in those big eyes on that little body, the oddly-coloured bird was practically devouring up the large portion of food as if it was nothing! Its beak had been going off as it peaked up and swallowed up the grilled fish, the strange-cooked interior of the coconuts' and the pumpkin-like mash only to pause at one of the bites as it felt something. Turning its head slowly a visible sweatdropped appeared on the side of the flight-gifted creature, its eyes went wide at the sight of a beast person!

Hopping away in a burst of speed, it ran all the way around as if to hide from the new guest which the scrambling caused the Owner of the bonfire to look down. Eyes' tracing the form of the bird til it was frightful hiding by his other side, poking that little head out and glancing at the newcomer. "Cla! Rude, Birdie, Rude. Claclaclaclacla!" Only to laugh at this where the bird's head went upward and gave a look of anger. Flustered by this, it puff up feather wrapped creature's chest in anger and huffed away in a grumpy manner.

Only to find the f of itself lifted, sand and fluttering bits of ash around their stunning form as the Oni had crudely shoved his hand into the ground and lifted an amount to fill his jumbo-sized 'paws.' Brought over, the bird was practically dropped back where it was as it comedically was dropped onto its head with a face-full of sand to match. Letting out a series of anger squawks hell-bent on giving the Oni trouble who only softly laughed at the bird and nervous but awe-inspiring fury as it jabbed that pointed beak at the man's leg who only laughed.

Smiling to himself prepared his portion of food which the Bird waddled over angrily. No longer nervous but still hungry as it had returned to eating but more harshly where it practically punched the food intended before swallowing up larger pieces than beforehand.  Preparing his food - His ears' altered him to the sound of the ladies' voice who spoke up towards Ashten as he grinned. "Aye, Aye!  Striped Seekers rarely come to Centaurea waters after all. Good thing cause they get nice and fat around this time of year! " Replying to her comment, the Oni pointed to the slain and cooked aquatic creature to whom despite the sizable amounts of food that were given - Not even a 'dent' yet was made into the cooked carcass.

It was impressive when the Oni took a singular bite which dwarfed the portions of food nine times over that he'd given to the much, smaller companions for this particular meal. A smile on his face when he chewed and chewed on the ponderous bite of food... But his head turned with a full mouth as he saw the bottle of gifted blessings past the angrily eating bird who did a snort, tilting its head away from the booze and returning to eating away. "Aha! A gift is always welcomed by a fellow bonfire companion! Reaching over and as gently as he was able, his thumb and index ted up the bottle to examine it... His eyes narrowed as he was busy readying the label but might've been struggling with it given the uniqueness of this particular wine's branding...

"Where did ya snag this beauty from? Never seen anything like it!" Using a fingernail, the cork was smacked away as it rocketed away out of sight into the forest with a flashy pop that he leaned over and poured some of the contents into the gourd. Not draining the entire bottle but half of the contents were gone as it found itself by the Mink woman. Indenting into the too as to not spill it where Ashten said... "Here, I heard stuff like that goes great with cooked fish!" Excitedly speaking up where he ted up his gourd, placing a large finger over the opening n' began to shake it.

The loud sounds of sloshing and whirling liquid inside as it appeared like he was mixing the wine with the previous liquor for some reason? A strange idea but happily drink whatever was being mixed inside where Ashten stopped his mixing upon the woman speaking up and was offering one of her 'Smoke-Sticks' to him, he only pouted to himself and answered back...  "Hmmm... No... But!" Putting down the Gourd, he extended his arm outright in full view of the Mink and explained... "If ya can give me something just as big as my arm, I'd enjoy alongside ya. Claclaclaclacla!"

Slapping his knee as he laughed, the idea of smoking wasn't a foreign one to the Oni but he needed something huge so... Why not something absurdly massive to enjoy! Calming down afterwards, he reached over and lifted his gourd that he took a long drink. A long, long drink... So long that the bird stopped eating as it kept on hearing the gulps one after the other for some time. For seconds turned to minutes as it could only just stare in shock at what was happening before the migratory bird.  Then he stopped... The Oni moved the gourd from his mouth as his cheeks brightened a tint, taking on a brighter-brown coloration as he spoke...

"Claclaclaclacla! Who says ya can mix Tanning Liquor with bottled booze! Claclaclaclacla! The sands shook as when Ashten laugh that it happened to cause the bird to fall over after losing its balance where it had once again got a faceful of the ground. Lifting its head to give the Oni a sneer that wasn't seen, it then cautiously tilted over and hopped towards the Mink... Sitting beside as it happened to drag its' food over given the man's 'explosive' bouts of activity where the nearby trees shook and fire threatened to cease!

Calming down - Ashten's laugh softened and his robust smile til he had become silent and his face retained a soft grin... But his face straightened up when the woman spoke up regarding the bird as he scratched the back of his head. His large strands of hair had been quick to dry and it seemed somewhat wild, stray points were either spiky or curly but as his hands' drifted through the mess at the moment... "Hm. We call them... 'Harken Crows' on this Island... Said that if you see a flock flying, something will change your life soon after." This had been the sole time the Oni's face no longer held a smile which the now-dubbed 'Harken Crow' looked over, its own eyes blinking where it had eaten most of the food for itself.  "Some say that they fly for months at a time to return to the land of their ancestors even... Despite the dangers that may befall them." Grabbing up the gourd and taking a much smaller drink, practically a swig as the Oni looked upward towards the sky itself.

The sole eye that could be seen by the two was a twinkle of something. A passion. A fire. Some sort of desire as he spoke on such matters but only to shake his head and laugh to himself as the more jovial reappeared in his attitude and face as he turned towards the two. "So! Who are ya and where ya from?" Asking up towards the Mink as he took another swig off his booze only for a blast of the mixed concoction to erupt from his nose after hearing the lady's last sentence!

Practically fell over and rolled on the ground as tears fell from his eyes after hearing such a thing. It was so good for him at least in this state of mild drunkness that was only being enhanced further and further by his continued intakes from his Gourd. "Folked together! CLACLACLACLACLACLACLA!" An even louder laugh than his ones' previous was done as he found it hard to breathe!

The little Harken Crow hopped around and hide behind the Mink this time as it was so stunned by this and was fearfully looked up at the woman who caused the 'giant' to the little bird to enter a state of pure jubilation... Head tilting down in shame in a way as if it was sorry for the fellow fireside companion to deal with this loud Oni's happiness at the moment.

""Ah, yes. That's more of the reaction I'm used to!"Another small, slightly hoarse laugh escaped the Mink as she watched the bird run from her. She made no move, simply watching the two with an at-ease smirk. Aya's senses were filled with the scent of fire, food, and the breeze from the sea. As the shifting winds carried the smoke from her cigarette until it dissipated into nothingness she turned her gaze to the towering figure above. "Don't worry about it too much. I'm used to it. Though... I'm sure youteia are, too. "

Aya turned her attention back to the first few bites of the meal. With this much food there was hardly a way to tell the portions for her and the bird was even missing from the rest and as such any worry about eating too much was washed aside like sand in the waves lapping the shore. With her mouth full she could see him reach for the bottle and gave a hum of approval in response.

"Traded for it a few islands back." Trade was certainly one word for the exchange. Whoever had found the painting in its place was sure to still be wondering what had happened to the bottle. The label featured a rather abstract depiction of a vineyard and vines of grapes all in deep purples, verdigris, and burgundy. "It's a light-body noir. 'Plancha Doble' is the name. Yes, lovely with fish, luckily enough-" The glugs of the alcohols mixing made her freeze up and almost speak out to try and stop him, but what had been done was done. " ....To each their own." Another snicker followed as she took a sip from the returning bottle. Someone of her stature had to watch mixing booze like that, but she doubted it would affect someone over five times her size.

It was hard to get used to the vibrations caused by such a booming laugh, but Aya found herself smiling through the din. At least he was in good spirits! She had worried this encounter would end with her smooshed flat and left out for the birds but the company was pleasant despite the intimidating stature. Her ears perked attentively at his question as a diminutive shrug shifted her shoulders as she sat back to let the meal settle in her stomach.

"Aya. And... my home is very far from here." The Mink put simply giving a wave of her paw passively out towards the ocean as if that was any real explanation. " I'm a travelling painter." A little jab of her thumb pointed in the direction of the painting she had set aside. With enough scouring she had managed to find a single beautiful blossoming flower amongst the rubble and ruins that coated this island, depicting the bright violet petals in the foreground of the painting as the dark earth tones of the debris-covered landscape seemed to enclose around it.

Another storm of laughter quelled the worry that she had been too vague. Without a second thought Pikasso's tail nudged the hiding bird a little closer to her and bridged the distance to scoop the minute avian into her lap. "You've been through a lot, haven't you?" She murmured to it and gave it a few light pats on the back as if consoling the frightened creature.

"You're from around here, then?" The question seemed harmless enough considering she figured that if the man was travelling he'd keep near a rather sizable ship. No, he seemed to know this place. "And... what should I call you?"

Just as the positive sensations and feelings arouse from the Oni, he was enjoying the newfound company he'd been keeping at this moment. Looking off, those eyes went off to look longingly over to the sea as the large fellow took a hefty swig of his mixed liquor. A winded exhale was to escape from him where he held this... Sight for a moment long enough to notice... Only to shake his head as he smiled to himself. Hair flying all about as the mixture of the heat and lack of grooming produced a notable amount of frizzy which make his long locks even wackier.

The frightened bird who had been cautious of these campfire duo despite being fed and not threatened could only tilt its' head, utterly stunned by the insane mess of hair that was just building up and up into a mountain of stray-black lines that was his hair. Ashten's ears twitched as the Mink reacted to the birds' actions with her voice poking out. Softer than his rumbling roars as his attention had become completely focused on her words before a casual smile rippled onto his face. "Yes... Always used to those eyes folks give you when you're different." Moving a hand up to the back of his head only to pause as he felt his hair.

A swift curse to himself as he grumbled before he utilized his hand to brush it down as best as he could, his attempt was doing something decent given that the utter massive mess was being controlled in comparison to what it was before. The bird's beak could only twist in what was a grin at the sight of the saviour that allowed it to remain breathing for the day. Overall - the spirits of this gaggle of travellers were havin' a right nice time. "Oh? A couple of Islands back now, eh? Wish I could head off this crap shoot." a somewhat jealous tone of the sadden Oni came out of his voice at that comment but it was more... Desire rather than anger directed at the Mink Woman. "They give names like that to drinks? Jeez, give it to a sword than a drink I say. Examining his mixed boozed gourd, Ashten lif it up and take a swig from it. His smile reappeared as he drank up the booze swiftly afterwards. "Welp, a thank you to ya kindness. Normally ya either get tanners or paint-thinners around here but mix something else in with one of those and taste something when you drink!" A grateful man Ashten was as he raised his gourd before slamming it down.

Causing the small bird to fly upward, launched from the earth as it had been bounced off. Shifting itself, the body of the creature ended up on the Mink's head! Landing softly... Its eyes' proceeded to close and a bubble appeared from where a nostril was. It just so happened to be rather sleepy at the moment which was most likely caused because of the food... Or maybe it was the company which Ashten's grin softened at this. Leaning back he was laying down softly, enjoying the breeze, the crackle of the bonfire and the meal in his stomach as he tossed in one of the vegetables still on his skewer. "Hm? A traveller painter from somewhere far away? Sounds like a book that I'd read when I was yay-high." Pointing downward as the Oni shuffled an arm to point at the side of his leg but that was interesting.

A real deal painter?

"Huh? Yeah, yeah. Been stuck here since I was young, only thrice I've been able to get off only to get dragged back here." His brow twitched up in annoyance at that fact. Sighing to himself as he continued to lean backwards and tried to enjoy himself but it wasn't as easy as it could be sometimes. "Me? Called Me Ashten N. Xtorm. Oh, It's Storm with an 'X.' Not an S.'" Informing the woman as his eyes closed... Beginning to focus on the sounds around as he began to fully relax.

The bird which had swiftly fallen asleep proceeded to lean over and fall directly into the Mink's lap as it had tilted over too much and ended up falling. For some reason, it was strange to see a bird sleep like a tired middle-aged man that was fully sprawled out and exhausted with a strange snore... But hey, the world has interesting things and interesting creatures all of the time.

Tanners... or paint thinners. Aya tried not to telegraph the grimace that momentarily wrought her features, but it was difficult to contain the shudder at the thought. As the gourd hit the sand the Mink nearly fell over to her side, narrowly catching herself in the shake.

"It's too bad, that. Youteia should be able to go if you please." A thoughtful hum settled her as she remembered just how frustrating it had been at times to wait to leave Zou. The world had a way of calling to those who listened for guides to something more.

Even the bird atop her fuzzy head didn't seem to bother Aya as she peered up at it. Helping raise 11 brothers made a girl accustomed to being treated like a playground. At least the bird didn't kick. Her hands reached up to pat its feathers softly, trying to keep from letting his little snooze make her ears twitch.

"Must be hard being a big guy. Me, I can sneak past most of the people who don't want me around. But you..." A little pout formed on her lips as she thought it over. It didn't seem fair that he should be stuck here because of something like that. It wasn't fair.

But what could be done for him?

"There's a big wide world out there, you know? You should see it." A bit of shuffling brought her to search through her backpack. With some effort, she unpacked a bound sketchbook and quickly opened it up to a few of the small but colorful landscape paintings within.

Though she doubted Ashten could get a clear look at the details of the small pieces, the little red panda Mink held the sketchbook up and out as far as her short arms could hold for him to see. She flipped the pages, showcasing a few scenes; a field of wildflowers, a strange cave on a shore, a huge tree dwarfing all others in a forest...

"See? I'm taking these back home to show my brothers. They should get out and see things, too. There are things out there youteia and I couldn't even dream up, I'm sure of it. And I want to see them."

Aya smiled to herself as the bird toppled sleepily into her lap. She laid the end of her tail over him as a make-shift blanket, settling back down before her arms could start getting tired. Her sketchbook was squirreled away safely soon after she was done showing him her work.

"Maybe... you just need a little help getting a jump start on it!" She piped up with sudden excitement, tilting her head as she peered out to the ocean again. "I have to find a way out of here and onto the next island anyways... How hard could it be to find a way out for you, too?"

For all that she could have just left on her own, Pikasso couldn't wrap her head around just leaving someone else stuck in the same position she herself had dreaded. Caged by one's own home... it was an intimidating problem to try to work around. Oolong encouraged her through it, so why wouldn't she return the favor for someone else?

"I don't suppose you've got a boat, then, huh? That would make this a bit easier." She laughed and shook her head, then looked back towards where she knew the boat she had come in on had been docked. Normally she'd just sneak aboard another ship, but...

Somehow Ashten seemed to pose a bigger and louder challenge to that sort of plan. This would take some more thorough brainstorming.

But perhaps with her help the giant man could be snuck off the island with nary a passing glance! That may have been wishful thinking, but Aya was an optimist at her core. A single claw idly tapped at her dark bottom lip as she thought it over. She may have been able to make him invisible, but trying to keep an unsuspecting crew from bumping into a clear Oni as they set the ship to sail seemed a bit too tricky a task to pull off without significant distraction.

A quiet, thoughtful sigh settled her shoulders to a more relaxed position with the influence of the wine and full stomach. She could have fallen asleep right there in the sand if she hadn't known better. She reclined against the bulk of her backpack, legs crossed as her ears lazily flopped to either side of her head.

"Hmmn. Yeah, I think we should get ourselves out of here. What do you say, big guy?"
