- History:
Roger Q. Dupin’s story begins as a fairy tail romance. Rebecca, his mother, was a historian for the Scholar Association while his father, Albert Dupin, was a semi-famous marine known for his great detective skills. After suffering pretty nasty injuries while working on an important case he was put on a temporary leave and after regaining his strength took some time to travel. His first destination, Ohara. The two ran into each other at a bar one random night when Rebecca decided to take a load off from work. She had accidentally had one too many and tripped directly between Alberts feet, both of them having a good laugh as he helped her up. The next thing the two knew the two were spending all free time together and nearly half a year later were expecting a child together.
The first year of Rogers life was like bliss, his parents took the best care of him and life seemed so easy. Sadly things got a bit sad for the family as Albert was called back from leave and had to leave Ohara. It was a teary goodbye as Albert got on his ship to leave, telling his family that he would keep in contact somehow and would come to see them when he could. It was pretty hard to adjust without him in their lives, as Rebecca had no blood relatives to watch she would have to bring her work home just to keep an eye out on her son. Luckily enough Roger seemed to love books and would easily be distracted by a few good ones.
It wasn’t until Roger was 4 years old before they had seen his father again. The boy jumped happily as his father sprung through the door of their home, shocking even his mother who had no indication from his letters he would be home anytime soon. Albert told his wife and son that he’d be home for the next few years before being shipped back out but never specified the exact reason why. The reason didn’t matter as Roger and Rebecca were ecstatic to have him home, they had both missed him so much.
Time seemed to fly over the next few years as the family spent time together. Albert taught everything he knew about being a detective and the marines, hoping that his son would follow in his footsteps. Roger fell in love with being detective like his father that he would often make up his own cases to solve for fun. Even if he didn’t join the marines he like his dad he would probably make a killing as a private detective. Good times don’t last forever and in the 7th year of Rogers life it was time for his dad to ship out into the sea as a Marine. The goodbye was as hard as the first time but the young boy knew it wasn’t anything he could stop. As his ship sailed away the mother and son waved bye once more, keeping the memories and lessons of the last three years close to their hearts.
Roger continued with everything he had been learning from his father, honing his detective skills all while also doing part time research with the scholar association with his mother. He struggled with the idea of becoming a marine like his dad and didn’t want to leave his mom by herself. It wasn’t until a dramatic event happened that shaped his decision to join.
At the age of 14 the mother and son duo were startled by a knock on the door before two cloaked figures appeared from behind and knocked them out. Once woke, they had no idea where they could possibly be as there was no light and something chained them but the swaying let him know they were on a ship. It felt like days of no lights and food before the squeak of a large door brang in a light that covered the whole room. One of the two cloaked figures appeared, sword in hand to come and unchain the two from the walls and take them off the ship. They were loaded on to a barren island where they soon were approached by the second cloaked man who introduced himself. Clyde Vanhiem and the reason they were with him was no other than his father Albert who he said was his sworn enemy.
Roger couldn’t believe that his father had a sworn enemy or any enemies at all! But it probably wasn’t so avoidable with him being a marine. He explained that due to his fathers mistakes of locking him away he would now he using them as personal slaves as he as payback and brought out a branding tool, burning a slave mark onto them both. They spent a year as a slave until one day a black suit clad Albert appeared with several other black suit wearing people to save them. While using his team as a distraction Albert attempted to get his family but was met with horror as just when they almost reached the ship, Clyde appeared and pierced Rebecca’s heart with his weapon. The man laughed as he hurled the woman’s body aside but Albert could say nothing as he stared in horror at the lifeless body of his beloved wife. The last thing Roger remembered hearing that day was run as the sworn enemies collided with one another. Roger reached the ship as he heard the battle rage on but once the sun broke, the young man was greeted by his father and his remaining teammates boarded the ship tattered and bloodied from a hard fight. His father had the worst injuries but ignored them as he carried his wife’s body, tears streaming down his eyes.
It wasn’t easy for the father and son to morn Rebecca, the two barely spoke and put all their effort into their respective work to get the death of her off of their mind. Once more time passed and Albert was healed, Roger approached him and said that he wanted to be a marine just like his father. He wanted to make sure bad guys like Clyde didn’t take anything precious from someone ever again. His father was shocked yet excited to hear his son’s confession and enrolled him into a marine academy to help hone his skills and prepare him for the job. And at 18 years old, Roger finally became a full fledged marine trying to make his parents proud and working for the greater good of the sea.
