[Episode] Drowning Demons
Tue Jun 13, 2023 11:01 am
Name: Drowning Demons
Category: Episode
Player Participants: Yumiko (+0), Marie Arquette (+0), Hyde Garland (+0)
Planned Location(s): Lvneel - North Blue
Planned Time Range: A single day between April 3rd 1829 and April 9th 1829, taking place roughly a week after the events of Under Control.
Summary: A former marine, very recently disgraced and discharged, is seeking a new direction in her life. ...Which currently means drowning her sorrows in the world famous Lvneel wine. Or, failing that, anything else an almost Berriless ronin can afford. During the drunken wandering, she ends up in a bar that prides itself in exclusivity. Specifically, it is a place exclusively for pirates, a safe spot where the hand of law dare not reach. So, understandably, the patrons don't take kindly to a famed marine, former or otherwise, intruding upon their space. They choose to voice their concerns in a healthy and constructive manner. Namely, a good, old-fashioned public lynching. Right there in the middle of the bar.
Unfortunately for the local rabble, the disgraced ronin refuses to simply roll over and die. Tempers boil over. Weapons are drawn. Bottles are broken. In short, things get real messy. Bystanders will have to choose sides and quick. Will they join their colleagues and brave the storm? Shall they side with the storm instead and sail to safety? Or do they choose a third option? Let's find out.
Night was slowly creeping over Lvneel, dragging a blanket of shadows with it. Honest folks were retreating home. Lights were vanishing from the windows one by one. Silence wrapped the city in its calming embrace.
Near the docks, one building shone like a candle in the dark. Drowning Demons, a shitty little drinking hole crammed between two warehouses. Just finding the place was a pain in the ass. Ah, but that was by design... This was one of the few drinking holes where Marines and other do-gooders dare not stick their noses. It was a safe haven for anyone on the wrong side of the law. Every pirate here knew the place and the rules.
Despite the shabby exterior -and interior-, this tavern was a packed treasure chest to anyone with a discerning eye. One could find just about anything from juicy rumors and whispered secrets to suitable crewmates and expendable cannon fodder. All it took was a couple of drinks and a little bit of digging.
However, like with all treasure chests, there was bound to be some worthless trinkets as well. For instance, a couple of drunken louts were insistently hitting on everyone who didn’t have a beard. Masters of seduction, they wielded such witty and charming lines as... “Eyyy... Nic-hic- Nice cannons, wench... Wanna... Wanna see my twelve-pounder? Heheharharhar!” Truly, it was a mystery for the ages why they had no success with their awkward mating dance.
The revelry was interrupted by the door flying open. A chill wind blew across the bar. It was strange considering the weather had been serene... Stranger yet was the grim figure who stepped inside. Dressed in a traditional kimono of a faraway country, the pale woman stood out like a sore thumb. It didn’t help that her long hair was a disheveled mess and numerous bandages covered her lithe frame.
Still, the patrons kept their mouths shut... Perhaps it was the ominous, dark blade hanging from the swordwoman’s waist. Or the intense glare that seemed to pierce right through anyone who met her eyes. Only the bartender dared to speak up. “Oi, close the damn-” Suddenly, a gust of wind slammed the door shut behind her. “...door.” The timing was nothing short of unnerving.
Stalking over to the counter with soundless steps, the quiet swordswoman dropped a fistful of sweaty cash. “As much of thy cheapest ale as this can afford, please...” The bartender took one glance at the money and shrugged. “Eh, you’ll get three pints. But don’t whine about the taste. We all know what it tastes like.” True to his word, he poured a pint of what looked, smelled and probably tasted like rat piss.
Without wasting another word, the stranger downed the first pint. She didn’t even flinch. Beneath the icy exterior, she was only disappointed the ale wasn’t stronger... Already the buzz she had built up from wandering was beginning to fade. Heaving a heavy sigh, she took another sip. Hm... Yes, this was truly revolting... But it was good enough for a failure.
Ever since the mess on Mini-Oni, no even before that... Since the mental breakdown on Amazon Lily, the weasel woman had felt her curse growing stronger. Like she had somehow become more attuned to the mythical beast. One of the effects was that she recovered far faster from injuries... Including self-inflicted poisoning. Every morning, she felt a little less like a human... And a little more like a monster.
Meanwhile, the rumor mill was beginning to grind whispers into secrets. Someone dug out a News Coo from a while back. The front page headline read 'MINION ISLAND LIBERATED! THE GUARDIAN KNIGHTS ADVANCE'. Suspicious looks were exchanged and sly whispering intensified...

Lvneel. All the pink caught Marie's eye quickly, the tranquillity and charm is cute to her, giving a mental note in the back of her mind that if she were to ever retire from her current lifestyle, she could settle here. Find a nice man, raise a family... but maybe that's for far, far in the future. Especially with the charming fellows in this tavern killing that idea very quickly. She came around here to dig up on some marine gossip. A cold trail leading her to try and find the identity of the man, the corrupt man who caused her parent's deaths. She's still trying to figure out the part of how a cold trail all the way from Loguetown ended up here. But, with her best corset on and her red fiery hair flowing freely behind her, she's sure that she could dig up something.
That one poor sod tried that line with her as well. "Wanna see my twelve-pound-" and with a hand raised, she simply ignored him and moved on. Incoherent shouting and insults were not too far behind her, all though she usually believes in the term of "leave no stone unturned", she doubts there's anything valuable to be found under that one.
Before she could even take a seat, those whispers circulated. People weren't being subtle about it in any way, and when that news coo was being handed around... Fate couldn't be more convenient. He knew that soon enough, the men in this tavern were going to get rowdy with someone like the woman in that kimono. It was time to put on the niceties.
She walked up, black heels clicking against the wood which announced her arrival, with both crossed arms being placed upon the bar. She placed a hand up with two fingers extended, "Two of your finest ales please. Top shelf stuff only." with a nod from the bartender, she took the quick chance to introduce herself.
"Hi there darling, you doing okay? Name's Marie. You look like someone walked all over you. Those drunks weren't giving you trouble, were they?" and she gave a side glance to the drunks. She didn't want to give them the satisfaction of a full-on look, not wanting to give them the wrong idea. "This sort of place isn't good for a tavern like us, how about I bring you somewhere nice? I know a good restaurant up the path from here." she didn't really, but the idea is to convince her to leave here. With that news coo being handed around like candy, there's only going to be so much time until they start getting rowdy, combined with alcohol, it's not a good combination. And if this woman is who she think she is... she needed her alive.

Ever since his escape from Las Camp, Hyde had made it a point to keep a low profile. Things had gotten a bit too out of hand as of late. His former crew had been wiped out, due to them growing too large too quickly (partially because of his assistance he felt), and then, once he escaped from that disaster, found himself in the middle of a marine controlled island. How he managed to get out of there intact he still wasn't sure about. Thinking back on it, it almost seemed unreal. Regardless, it was best if he kept his head down, at least for the time being. Let everything blow over, and then figure out what to do next.
And so, Hyde's wanderings took him to Lyneel. The pinkest country Hyde had ever seen. It was almost gaudy to look at. Still, he could put his grievences with the color scheme aside for now. He had heard in the grapevine that the place had come under the control of a pirate crew recently. That meant no marines. A good place for him to hide. He just wished it was easier on the eyes.
And now, as Hyde sat at the bar, quietly nursing his drink, he wished it was less painful on the ears as well. He was used to being around drunks. Hell, his former crew would often have loud, drunken celebrations after a successful raid. But if he had to hear one more bad pickup line ge was going to flip a table and beat someone to death with it! Now Hyde never claimed to be an expert on the fairer sex, but hearing such badly thought out words offended the man to no end. Still, he had to ignore it. He was here to lay low. Starting a bar fight was not going to help with that.
Fortunately, a distraction came in the form of a rather badly beat up woman coming into the bar. A foreigner, judging from her attire, and someone who looked like they had been through hell and back. He watched quietly out of the corner of her eye as she took a seat further down the bar, morosely ordering some cheap booze from the bar. Damn, one could only imagine what she had been through. She was accompanied moments later by a younger, better looking woman, who seemed to be trying to offer some comfort to her or something of the sort.
Out of the corner of his hearing, he could start making out hushed whispers as well. The air within the tavern seemed to shift, and not for the better too. Sure, the shabby woman looked strange, but it wasn't like she was a walking buzz kill, was she? Still, there was something going on here now, and the hairs on the back of Hyde's neck were starting to stand up.
A figure tapped him on the shoulder. Hyde glanced over. It was one of the other patrons of the bar, nobody he knew, but he seemed to have something in his hand. A news coo? And an old one at that. The man held it out to him, and Hyde looked over at the title. Yeah, this was an old one, something about an island being liberated. "The heck is this?" he murmured under his breath. The man silently jerked his head towards the very dishevelled woman. Hyde risked a peek over at the woman before looking back to the coo, reading over it a little more. He quickly pieced together what everyone was thinking.
Hyde found himself rolling his eyes, whispering quietly. "Do you honestly think a marine would be here of all places? dressed like that? Come on man." he pushed the coo away quietly.

When the friendly stranger approached, the sullen swordswoman spared her a suspicious glance. There was a spark of hostility in her glare, not quite hatred, but definitely distaste. Questions floated on the booze sloshing inside her skull. The most prominent of them bopped on the surface akin to a warning buoy. Why...? After a long, awkward pause, she finally responded.
“Yumiko... Mine name is Yumiko.”
Quiet gasps spread among the eavesdroppers like ripples in a pond. Someone slyly nudged the skeptical man and passed back a smug whisper. “Hear that? It is her. Heh, if we had bet on it, you’d owe me right now.” He tapped the paper insistently, so very proud of his intuition.
Meanwhile, Yumiko took another sip of her disgusting drink. It was bad enough to wash away the taste of distrust. She idly tugged at the bandage wrapped around her arm. “Nay, these are... The result of a personal mistake... Nothing more, nothing less...” She muttered bitterly.
In the background, the floorboards creaked. A towering figure rose from its seat. Broken teeth twisted into a devilish grin. Slowly, the fridge-sized mass lumbered closer. Right in its wake, the smaller shadows stirred. “Hey, scooch closer. This is gonna be good.” They tried to push or drag everyone along, so they’d all get front row seats to the show. Someone blocked the exit with their generous behind.
A voice raspy like a rusty chainsaw shredded its way across the room. “Well, well, fuckin’ well. Got some questions for ya, Petty Officer Yumiko.” The massive shadow loomed right behind the two women. A closer look revealed a one-eyed man with a huge head and a beard bushy enough to reach his navel. He wore nothing but a pair of torn pants on his hulking body.
Yumiko’s shoulders heaved with a sigh. She didn’t even bother to look. “Thou are mistaken... This one is no longer a Petty Officer. Nor a Marine. This one is nothing...” Naturally, such news traveled slowly. If at all. It was very poor propaganda to let the enemies know someone had resigned or defected.
The thug with broken teeth scoffed. “Oh, go cry to someone who cares.” Suddenly, he plopped his head off and set it onto the counter. ...Wait, no actually these were two different people. The mouthy man had simply been sitting on someone’s shoulders. He was like a bearded imp, with a head completely mismatched with his scrawny, yet surprisingly sharp-dressed body. “Once a filthy blue, always a filthy blue!” He accused, with a sharp point, nearly poking the woman in the eye.
As soon as the bartender delivered the pair of finest ales, the imp of a man snatched one of them. “But hey, we ain’t nothing if not hospitable. Come on, lads! Let’s all raise a toast to our esteemed guest.” Without wasting a beat, he hoisted the stolen pint... And poured it on the broken warrior’s head. Wasted ale splashed all over, threatening to stain Marie as well. The crowd erupted into uproarious laughter.

Marie's eyes narrowed as she observed the scene unfold before her. The hostility directed at Yumiko, combined with the crude display of disrespect, ignited a spark of anger within her. She was no stranger to adversity and the cruelty of others, but witnessing such humiliation struck a chord within her heart. Her hand instinctively tightened around the grip of one of her pistols. Her gaze swept across the tavern, assessing the situation and the individuals involved. The laughter of the crowd echoed in her ears, fueling her determination to draw and pull the damned trigger. Is it worth it? Every emotional instinct is telling her to do it.
A warning shot. With a loud shot that echoed across the tavern, dangerously close to the leg of the larger individual from the pair, everyone's laughter and attention came to a halt momentarily. "Seems you've mistaken this gathering for a circus, gentlemen." she said, her tone laced with a dangerous calm. "But let me remind you that every circus has a ringmaster. And in this little show, I'll be the one calling the shots now."
It gave them a moment's pause, and that was it. The second moment that they looked upon Yumiko once more, the confidence that she extruded from such a line had it's effects quickly dismissed. Liquid courage, she thinks that's what they called it? Or maybe just pirates going back to their primate instincts. They didn't like being ordered around nor shown up, with that threat of her pistol, what did they do next? Start grabbing their own guns and swords. It's looking like a fight, something that Marie entirely intended to avoid. Damnit.
"Oi, cut it out the lot of you! I ain't having a fight in my bar!" but the men were too drunk for the bartender's words to be taken seriously. Their pride and alcohol in their systems were driving their stupidity right now. With an almost-instantaneous reload of her pistol, it looked like there's only one way this is going to go down.

Hyde paused and blinked as he looked over at the battered woman who, as if to spite his doubts about her identity, simply revealed to the drunken world at large who she was. She did know where she was, right? Basically admitting that you were a marine in a pirate bar was a very good way to get your teeth kicked in.
And that certainly looked to be the case right now. As one, the patrons of the bar started to converge on the two women, Hyde himself being pushed along with the crowd. Well, there didn't seem to be much chance of avoiding this now. Someone was now blocking the only exit as well. Just great.
Hyde watched as a surprisingly big headed imp of a man began talking smack to the dispondant marine, even going as far as to pour her drink over her head. The woman must have been very depressed if she was allowing this sort of treatment. Hyde would almost feel bad. Almost, mind you. She was a marine after all. The thought brought to mind the memory of a certain woman he hoped to never meet again.
However, while Yumiko seemed too dispondant to react, the red haired woman certainly wasn't. But did she really have to pull out a gun and fire off a warning shot like that? Under normal circumstances, such an action would be enough to deter others. But these men were drunk out of their heads. Such actions were only going to provoke them further. And almost immediately, Hyde was proven right, as the drunken men started drawing their own weaponry, despite the please from the bartender.
Ok, it was time for Hyde to try and put a stop to this. He wanted to keep a low profile after all. He risked a step forward. "Alright, alright folks. Let's just calm down and put the weapons away." One of the pirates gave Hyde an irritated look. "What? You gonna defend her now too?" Hyde gave a small snort. "What? No. Of course not. I don't like the marines as much as you guys. But just, stop and think for a brief moment." Thinking might be a bit of a challenge for these people, but he was willing to try.
He gestured to the now drenched Yumiko. "So, we all know she's a marine, right?" The drunks all collectively nodded. Hyde then reached for the news coo. "And we know she had a part in liberating Minion Island, right?" Again, another round of nods. They had all seen the coo too. Good. Some headway. "So, logically speaking, she's had plenty of experience fighting pirates. Lots of them. At once. Right?"
The pirates all looked at eachother and nodded. When it came to people like this, you had to simply spell it out for them. "And these pirates were no doubt better armed and NOT stinking drunk, right?" More nodding, though they were wondering just where he was going with this. "So, with that in mind, what makes you all think you can actually take her in a fight?" As the question rang in their collective skulls, some started to voice their objections. "There's more of us and only one of her!" one shouted out. "Yes, and we already established she's experienced in fighting more than one opponent at once," Hyde reminded the group. "well, she's pretty badly beaten up already!" Hyde looked over at Yumiko. The girl did indeed look in rough shape. "True, but I would like to counter with the fact that you're all drunk-" THUMP! "-and one of you just hit the floor."
Hyde looked over the group around him, "So, why don't we all just calm down, put the weapons away, grab ourselves another round of drinks and-" There was suddenly a shattering of glass as a bottle was broken over the back of Hyde's head. "Shuddup will ya? Damn you talk too...much..." The pirate's voice trailed off as his alcohol pickled brain started to pick up that something wasn't right here. Normally when someone is hit with a bottle, they tend to fall down, or scream in pain. Instead, Hyde simply stood there, his mind quickly trying to process what just happened.
He straightened himself up, brushing the broken glass out of his hair. He inhaled deeply through his nose as he clapped his hands together, the tell-tale sign of someone trying very hard not to blow their lid. "So...it seems the people have made their decision...and have chosen violence." Hyde shrugged. "Fine by me!"
In one quick movement he pulled off his coat, throwing at the man behind him who hit him. As the drunk pirate stumbled back, temporarily blinded, Hyde lashed out with a sharp kick straight to the man's face, sending him crashing back into a nearby table.
So much for a peaceful resolution.

Dripping with ale, the disgraced samurai lowered her head. Instinctively, her hand reached for the blade hanging at her waist. ‘...quick to draw your blade...’ She froze at the haunting echo in her mind. ‘...lash out like a cornered animal...’ Her trembling hands grasped the soaked mess of hair, as if trying to pull it out by the roots.
All the voices around the wounded woman turned into an indistinguishable buzz in her ears. Words lost meaning. She was drowning in the poison muddling her mind. Worse yet, the whispers were starting to make a grim sort of sense. It was pointless. Why fight at all...? Why delay the inevitable...? It would be so easy to finally close her eyes and...
Just...
Let...
Go...
A gunshot snapped her back to reality.
The whispers fell silent.
Meanwhile, the imp gritted his broken teeth. His healthy eye twitched. A bulging vein pulsed on his forehead. This situation was beginning to slip through his fingers... Had to salvage it... Regain control... Now! “You fancy yourself a ringmaster, wench?” He growled. A disgusting grin spread across his features. “Gaba! That’s a laugh! Gaababababa!” His cackling proved contagious, spreading among the pirates like a wildfire. No doubt it was fueled by all the liquid courage sloshing in their otherwise empty skulls.
Then, another voice cut across the rabble. The small troublemaker started tapping his foot impatiently. No, nonono, he didn’t need anyone bringing reason into his angry mob. You didn’t lynch people with facts and logic. Luckily, the stoked embers were still smoldering. All he had to do was pull the strings and watch the puppets dance...
At least that was the plan, until someone got kicked in the face. The imp snapped. “Grrrrrr! That does it! Get ‘em, boys! All three of ‘em!” With a click of his fingers, he sent the faceless goons after the three targets. Fists and swords started swinging. Guns started singing. Someone threw a chair. The poor bartender cursed and dove behind the counter. Occasionally, a hairy hand reached out to pull a particularly expensive bottle from the shelf into safety.
While the collective brawn handled the fighting, the brain kept running his big mouth. “Do you uppity brats even have bounties, huh?! I don’t think so!” He stuffed his hands down his pants and rummaged around. “Feast your eyes on this!” Luckily, he only whipped out a wanted poster sporting his ugly mug. “I am Gobbo ‘Big-Time’ Masters! A genius captain worth a whopping ten million!” He boasted with the blind confidence of an idiot.
Yumiko got tackled by the biggest thug. The brute grabbed her head and slammed it against the counter. Countless stars filled her vision. One of the wounds opened, painting a splash of crimson beneath her. Her bones creaked, as her arm was twisted behind her back. In the ruins of her willpower, the embers of anger flared... But only briefly, before dying out again. No, there was no point in struggling anymore... This was merely a punishment to fit the crime.
The imp danced a merry jig on the ale-stained and blood-stained counter. “Good job, Lil Gobbo Jr!” He reached into his beard and pulled out a knife so big it might as well have been a sword to him. “It’s funny, you know... Hilarious, actually.” Yet, like all evil men on a power trip, he simply couldn’t shut up and finish the job... Twirling the blade theatrically between his fingers, he pranced about.
“After all that bullshit about your ‘experience in fighting pirates’ and blah blah blah, you turn out to be a total pushover. Gabababa! That’s hilarious! No wonder the papers called that Minion Island business ‘The Anton Show’. You probably contributed nothing. Just sat on your bony ass and let it happen. Like you’re doing right now. But this time your boss ain’t here to save you. Gabba~! I always knew the samurai were a joke, but this is just embarrassing~!”
Suddenly, the samurai tensed. Twitched. Her piercing glare focused on the mouthy imp. A faint whisper of wind began to swirl in the air.
“What... did thou say...?”

The situation kept getting worse by the second, just as her pistol is locked and ready to go, someone tried to argue with drunk pirates with facts and logic. It was a constant back and forth when reading the emotions of the drunk men each time that he raised a good point, her pistol going up, then down, then up, then down, over and over again thinking that this may not escalate into a fight at all. Then being called a wench... well, she didn't appreciate that. Just as the situation escalated, she finally had enough. Her warning shot was given, logic was given, the former marine clearly wasn't a threat, but these men pushed it at every conceivable turn. It's time for action. Just as she raised her pistol at the big guy who was brutally slamming the woman's head onto the counter, the imp then made a quick dash in-front of Marie, faster than her eyes could see. In the moment of clarity, she looked towards the left, seeing the imp holding onto the pistol with a devious smile.
"Give that back." she said, trying to sound commanding but there was a hint of desperation within her voice. She never expected anyone to do that to her so casually or easily. The annoying, screechy voice came through. "You can't be a ringmaster without this, can you?!" and she quickly chased after it, to which it made a stupid run around the tavern, making her push and shove anyone that got in the way. It led to a stop of him being at the corner, aiming the pistol right at her. "Tell ya what, you beg, get on your knees and beg to get this back, maayybbeee I'll give it back." she sighed, he stole her more safe pistol. Retribution, designed for normal ammo. She brought out another pistol, Redemption, and aimed it right at the imp. Realising that his words weren't having any effect on her, it doubled down.
"Didn't you hear me?! Beg! Or I'll shoot!" Marie smiled, not seemingly afraid of the possibility. "Your body isn't built for it. If you shoot it, you're going to go flying back, and completely miss me. It'd be a miracle if you did. I have a better body; in more ways than one, so let's treat this like how it is. I'm the one with the pistol and know how to use it, that pistol to you right now might as well be a piece of scrap. You know what? Please do shoot it. It'd be hilarious to see you fly back and hit someone else instead. Are you really willing to risk your own life over this?"
The imp kept his position, thinking. He abruptly threw the weapon in Marie's direction and ran off in the same movement, which gave her pause. If she wasn't so worried about her pistol, she could've offloaded a bullet in that moment there and then... a wasted opportunity, but she was quick to get her gun back.
"I'm not done with you yet!" and with that, her brawl began. If someone told her that she'd be fighting against an imp, of all men in a pirate bar, she would've laughed at them.

As the one who threw the first 'punch', Hyde found himself the attention of a lot of the violent drunks, now that the fight was well and truly underway. A pair moved to try and tackle him, only to collide with eachother as Hyde jumped back, jumping atop a nearby table and hopping down the other side. He lashed out with a kick, sending the table flying and crashing into the two incoming drunks, knocking them down to the floor.
Over the commotion, he couldn't help but overhear the the little imp bragging about his bounty. Ten million huh? Actually, come to think of it, Hyde hadn't exactly been doing nothing all this time. Travelling around with a relatively successful pirate crew, battling and successfully escaping marine capture, and THEN there was that whole fiasco back in Las Camp. And yet, the man himself STILL didn't have a bounty. What the actual hell?
Unfortunately, this brief moment of distraction allowed one of the drunks to get the jump on Hyde, delivering a sharp punch to the man's jaw. It wasn't enought to knock the man down, but enough to cause him to stumble. Others took this opportunity to try and pile on the man as well. Fortunately, Hyde prided himself on being able to take hits. But that didn't mean he was simply going to allow himself to get beaten up on like this.
Bringing his arms up to shield his head, he surged his body forward, trying to shove the assaulting drunks back. A table broke as one fell back, spilling glass and booze everywhere. As Hyde tried to back up to give himself some space, he found himself backing up against something...or someone. He looked back, finding himself looking up at the rather large pirate who had decided to use themselves to block the doorway. Hyde blinked as he looked up at them. "Oh...hello there."
The large pirate seemed unamused. Before Hyde could react, he was suddenly grabbed by a pair of large, fatty arms and lifted off of his feet. "Hey! Wait a minute! Wait!" The pirate hoisted Hyde over their head and suddenly threw them at a trio of incoming drunks. All four of them crashed into the ground in a heap. Of all the things to happen today, Hyde had NOT expected to be thrown at people like a barrel being thrown by a gorrila.

The samurai never got her answer. No, the cowardly imp was far more content to run around, making utter mocker of the art of combat. A growl crawled from between her gritted teeth. Every vile word, every empty boast, spewed from that foul mouth, stoked the embers a little further. The shreds of her torn pride were the perfect kindling. Slowly but surely, her blood was beginning to boil.
Finally, a fire flared in her eyes.
Suddenly, a violent hiss of wind split the air. The man trying to hold the wounded woman recoiled with a howl of pain. Blood trickled from his hands. He could only watch in disbelief, as a harrowing transformation took place before him.
Fur as black as soot covered Yumiko’s figure, decorated by white patterns resembling brush strokes. She swelled in size, easily rivaling the ogre of a man. Beady, black eyes glared at him. Her teeth were like daggers, her nails sickles and her tail a scythe. In moments, the frail woman was gone and in her place stood a monstrous weasel.
“W-what the hell is that thing?!”
The mythical creature growled at the question, her voice now a good octave lower and more masculine. “This one is a Kamaitachi.” She didn’t like the stares she got. It always felt like people saw a monster...
However, the hulking pirate seemed more puzzled than intimidated. He scratched his bald head idly. “Uhhh, what’s an oh-come-my-touchy?” His captain took the moment to interject. “Well, ya see, an okama is when a guy-” The offered answer was shot down immediately. “NO. Cease that. Shame on thee.” It was a touchy subject.
Unwilling to waste time on arguing, Yumiko locked her gaze onto the prancing imp. She dropped onto all fours and charged, only to get intercepted by the wall of muscle. Her claws scraped against the tough hide, barely even cutting the skin. Disbelief was apparent even on her animal features. How was a man so big and sturdy also this fast...?!
Meanwhile, the imp was enjoying the show wholeheartedly. “Gabbababa! Nice try, jackass!” He scampered past the chaos, deftly bouncing on the heads of the brawling fools. “If you want me, you’ll have to go through Lil Gobbo Jr!” His confidence on the big lunk was unwavering!
The samurai’s narrow glare sharpened. “So be it.” Her words were quick enough to cause some wavering in the aforementioned confidence. “Wha...?” The whispering winds were beginning to swirl, making dust dance around her. “This world is full of greedy, corrupt fools, such as thee, who only understand violence. If that is the language I must speak to be heard, then so be it. No more... I shall hold back no more!” Her focus sharpened and fur bristled.
“Have at thee!”
With a swift backwards flip, the mythical weasel sliced the foe with her tail. It painted a streak of red across the air and sent the burly man stumbling backwards. He was like a wrecking ball, busting through the brawl with his generous behind. Both the gunslinger and the brawler were in danger of getting bowled over.
