Our narrative unfolds with two ‘youthful’ revolutionaries striving to effect change. Kathy, a native pastry chef, has assumed her father's business following his untimely demise involving foul play. A handful of knights persist in collecting her father's debts, inadvertently revealing a more sinister underbelly concealed within the confines of the Briss Kingdom.Combat Encounters

Bleue Fontaine | Capital of Briss
Security was stringent across the country following the alleged bombing by the NRA. The marines and knights of Briss had formed a joint posse to monitor entrance, although the Revolutionaries' information network and planted spies allowed personnel to move in and out discreetly. Despite this, all parties remained on high alert.
Sabian had been relocated to the South Blue due to lackluster performance in the West. After news of the bombing surfaced, his insubordination in questioning the Army upset a higher-up, a story for another day. He arrived in the country on the 26th and spent three days assessing the lay of the land, aiming to investigate corruption within the Briss Crown amid the capital's chaos. Essentially, his mission mirrored police work—gather information and report back.
McQueen, ordered not to engage with locals or create disturbances, paid little heed. A mural honoring civilians lost in the explosion was erected. McQueen, visiting a nearby art and craft shop, obtained a canvas and paints, setting up near the candle-lit memorial to paint a piece for the fallen.
[dass]In her early twenties, Kathy Lionheart knelt to light a candle, facing harassment from a patrol guard who callously commented on her father's death. [cmt]Already there is some timey-wimey weirdness happening since this quest is set after the World Event and yet Kathy was already part of your group in the event like she'd been with you for months.[/cmt][/dass]
“It's a pity what happened to your father Miss Lionheart. Those dirty rebels took his life for their deluded cause! A shame he had to deliver a cake to the embassy that day.” The Knight stated.
“Truly… a shame. However, my father wasn’t the type to harbor hate in his heart. Besides, it’s my family’s motto to keep strong in times like these.” Kathy, maintaining the Lion-heart way of strength, responded with a forced but determined smile.
The guard, Johnathan Myers, grabbed her shoulder, expressing his intent to protect her with a play on words. “I appreciate women with a lionesses’ heart. In times like this, I’ll protect you!”
Kathy resisted, prompting the guard's displeasure.
Flicking his paintbrush, Sabian dirtied the guard's uniform, diverting attention to the hooded painter. “Hey. You. My garments got dirtied by that shitty looking brush of yours.”
“Bila-haha… My apologies. I mistook your clothes for my paint rag. Couldn’t quite tell the difference. My eyes aren’t the best these days ya see. I’ve been traveling for months to visit this nation, and it seems I’m still tired from my travels.” Sabian apologized, [dass]attributing the mistake to tired eyes from months of travel[cmt]Repeating information that's already been said in the dialogue.[/cmt][/dass].
“Oh. My bad. I guess my clothes do need changing. I know the perfect remedy for those weary eyes of yours.” Annoyed, the guard [dass]alluded to changing clothes and hinted at a remedy for Sabian's weary eyes[cmt]And you did it again in the very next paragraph. This is a classic mistake that I feel I've pointed out many times in the past. It doesn't add anything meaningful to your narration - it's pure fluff.[/cmt][/dass] before forcefully slamming him to the ground.

Although the Briss Kingdom should look familiar to Noah, the bombing here undoubtedly changed the atmosphere. Knights and marines joined forces to tighten security, which only spurred the Revolutionaries to act more vigorously. Their information network was robust, allowing many of their sympathizers to enter the country if necessary.
Noah, after meddling in the affairs of the mafia on Baterilla, was one of the individuals sent to strengthen the NRA's presence in the kingdom. Unlike other personnel, though, Noah had an easier time entering the kingdom. While the island might not be where he was born, it was still the place he lived in the past years. His parents were still operating their family’s smithy, which he used as a cover story by claiming to return from his journeyman's travel to attend to family affairs. Naturally, he kept his true intentions hidden: keeping a watchful eye.
While he had already spent a while on the island, this time was mostly used to catch up with his parents. As sympathizers for the NRA, they frequently gained intel. Similarly, as they tried to stay on good terms with other shop owners in Bleu Fontaine, they managed to hear about many a rumour naturally. It was just a matter of time until Noah felt up to date with the events that happened during his absence.
However, while Noah might have heard about the bombing resulting in the death of multiple civilians in the news, as a citizen of the kingdom he naturally felt a connection to the victims of said bombing. While he could not do much, he could at the very least light a candle in honour of the dead at the erected mural.
As such, the redhead could not but notice the actions of a local guard. Initially, Noah tried to ignore it as best as he could to honour the dead properly. However, as time went by, it became increasingly difficult to turn a blind eye to the scene. Realizing how some of the faces looked familiar, Noah walked over and attempted to intervene.
"Mister Myers, what a pleasant surprise to run into you here! I wanted to inform you that your order is completed- whenever you have a moment to spare, please visit our smithy and verify if the blade satisfies your needs." Without waiting for any reaction from the guard, Noah quickly shook the Knight’s hand. Looking at the paint on his clothing, the redhead soon continued, hoping to de-escalate the scene any further.
"You know what, why don’t you go right about now? I’m sure my mother would have a trick up her sleeve to remedy the paint on your uniform. Unless you want to continue working in this getup, but I’d be pretty sure the crown would dislike you representing them in this state, right?"
Afterwards, he turned around to offer Sabian a helping hand, as well as check in on both Kathy and the blond man. "Everything alright with you both?"

In moments like these, a myriad of thoughts raced through Sabian's mind. Contemplating his purpose in the army and channeling his master Fu's teachings, he staunchly refused to face embarrassment before a beautiful woman. Before conscious thought could intervene, his body moved with the precision of a programmed machine upon hitting the ground.
Instinctively, Sabian delivered a swift kick to the smug guard's chin, followed by a decisive blow to his muffin top, all executed with the principle of Hasshoken. As the guard crumpled, a red-headed man with golden eyes extended a hand, offering assistance. "I'm fine! Did you see that? Serves him right!" Sabian declared triumphantly, returning to his feet.
However, the situation escalated when other guards, witnessing the altercation, reached for their weapons. Sabian, like a [dass]hurricane through the West Indies[cmt]Once again, I must remind you not to make direct references to real-life locations. It's meta and a sign of poor writing.[/cmt][/dass], sent them airborne like frisbees. Taking note of the policing that occurred since the bombing, Kathy attempted to escort the red head and the blonde, ushering them into an adjacent alley as marines and guards closed in.
Sabian, refusing to retreat, snarled, "I won't run from these scums. I won't reason with those who take advantage of grieving women." Kathy pleaded with him once more, explaining the potential harm of his brash actions to the locals. Reluctantly, Sabian shrank in resolve, deciding to follow her lead. As they attempted to escape, he defiantly shouted, "Let them know Sabian McQueen [dass]of the Revolutionary[cmt]Of the NRA.[/cmt][/dass] did this!" before mocking the authorities with a raspberry, and a smack on his bottom.
These actions caused murmurs amongst the crowd. For this incident was about to spark an uncanny reaction amongst the locals and the authority figures alike.

Before Noah could properly process what happened around him, the blond man already attacked the guard. One moment Noah thought he would get an answer, but the other Myers went down. The attempt to solve the situation without further escalation seemed destined to have failed. As a result, Noah stood perplexed for a moment, thinking what he should do.
"Yeah, totally cool." Noah was not happy with the way the situation went by and as such spoke with a hint of sarcasm, though it could easily be missed. There goes his plan of not attracting attention. Not that he was unfamiliar with getting on peacekeepers’ bad sides.
At the same time, Noah could not deny that the blonde’s energy rubbed off on him. As far as he could tell, the knight did get what he deserved. While Noah did not necessarily sign up for attacking island peacekeepers so soon, his metier somewhat expected him to do so. Thus, it was just a matter of time until the redhead warded some of the peacekeepers off, his sword in hand.
When Kathy showed them a way into an alleyway, the revolutionary did his best to keep her safe, giving her the time she needed to address Sabian. "If you want to keep her safe, get back before this place is swarmed with guards! Right now, it’s so easy to label her an accomplice in whatever we are doing here." Upon seeing how the blonde finally did retreat, Noah felt relief, though it did not last long.
Noah would soon learn the name of his partner in crime- Sabian. Unfortunately for the young man, it happened exactly in the way he least expected. So much for discretion. Turning to his group, he took a moment to introduce himself. "Why don’t you announce your affiliation more loudly? Always nice to run into a comrade, though I would’ve preferred more peaceful circumstances. Noah Lacroix, by the way."
After a moment, Noah continued. "Any ideas about what we should do now?" Not knowing what he got himself into, Noah tried not to worry too much about what would await him.

"Kathy. Kathy Lionheart," the young pastry chef declared as a formality. As the trio rushed through the streets of Briss, Sabian took in the beauty of the city's architecture; the unique designs sparked an artistic flare in the painter's heart that couldn’t be explained in any words his limited vocabulary could muster.
In the square by the mural, civilians huddled around the canvas to admire the beauty of the painting left behind by the artist. It was a perfectly sketched and painted recreation of the mural and the square, detailed and exquisite with lush colors and sharp edges.
Arriving at the square about an hour later was a marine in charge of petty crimes and minor incidents in Briss. Captain Sweetwater, the pretty boy marine of the Briss Country Branch, examined the reports collected from citizens at the square. He couldn’t help but grin at the audacity of the New Revolutionary Armies supporters.
Flicking through the papers, he asked one of his subordinates, "Let’s see. A pastry chef got into an altercation with a local knight and then was seen escaping with the culprits who assaulted him and his peers. This lady, she’s known amongst the people?"
“Yes sir. She owns a little shop downtown in the capital," one of the grunts reported.
“Alrighty. Then send a few men to follow up on the report and be cordial. The people of Briss aren’t exactly warm to us since this place has been placed under martial law. The unrest in this Kingdom has been going on long before this mess of a terrorist act. Sabian McQueen, eh? [ass=Is it, though?]What a strange name[/ass],” Sweetwater monologued before barking orders to his subordinates.
“Alright, ladies and gents! Nothing to see here. Finish up your offerings and prayers for the day! I’m closing down the square for the next twenty-four hours. Someone write up a report and send it to the superiors; I’m going to grab a nap!”
“But sir… that’s your job," the remaining subordinates grumbled under their breath in unison.
After about fifteen minutes of travel, entering through the back entrance of her small pastry shop, Kathy escorted the two gents into her home.
“Ah, sorry for the messy kitchen! I had a big order earlier and I haven’t gotten a chance to clean the kitchen!” Kathy announced, locking the door behind the two and quickly drawing the blinds to the small abode.
“No need to explain," Sabian declared, scratching his head. Noah had inquired about his physical state, “I’m not the brightest, but if there’s one thing I can handle, it’s a few scratches! I’m sorry once again for losing it back there. I just can’t take it when people take advantage of the weak! Not saying that you couldn’t handle your own, Miss Lionheart,” Sabian declared nervously, now that all the adrenaline of the situation had worn off.
It just clocked to him that it was the first time a woman had ever embraced him back there in the square. Flushing his soft, delicate skin in a beetroot red, the man romanticizes the very platonic moment.
Putting a kettle on the stove, Kathy pulled up three chairs and served some of her [ass=Callous use of this term.]world-famous[/ass] chocolate cake at the table. “Unfortunately, all I can offer you guys are sweets. Haven’t really had time to cook for myself as of late due to the madness going on in Briss—,” Kathy stated, shocked at the alarming rate that Sabian scoffed down the cake on the plate.
“Another!" the blond-haired man requested with icing splatter across his face.
Chuckling, “It seems you have quite the appetite Mr. McQueen. You can have as many slices as you like!” Kathy offered with the broadest of smiles. Turning her attention to Noah, “Don’t be shy. Dig in!” Kathy kindly offered.
After a few more slices of cake, the kettle on the stove rang off in completion.
“I don’t mean to pry, but could you tell me what happened to your father?” Sabian inquired bluntly.

With introductions out of the way, the trio soon navigated through the capital’s streets. For Noah, the scenery belonged to everyday beauty, given how long he had lived here. As such, Noah looked around, focusing more on the people they passed and saw. Reinforcements for the guards should be on their way to the mural and Noah could imagine more pleasant people to run into right now.
Unaware of the gathering of marines, the trio found shelter in Kathy’s bakery. Entering through the backdoor might not be the most glamorous entrance, but was nonetheless a pleasant surprise for the senses. As soon as Noah passed the shop, he noticed how the smell of freshly baked pastries lingered in the air, saw glimpses of skilfully decorated cakes, and when he walked into the kitchen, the scent of different spices mixed to invoke nostalgic images of his childhood when his mother was baking with him.
"No need to apologize." Looking around, the messiness was hard to overlook, but natural where one worked. Subduing his desire to roll up his sleeves and start cleaning a bit to distract his mind, he rather wished to focus on more urgent matters at hand. "That’s already a thing of the past, Sabian, don’t worry too much about it. It might have happened suddenly, but if that Knight would’ve been an even bigger pest, I’d probably have done the same." As the stress left his body, Noah’s mood brightened.
Shortly after, Kathy served some sweets and Noah gladly took some after the extra invitation. After the first bite, he could say that they did not just look good but had the taste to go along. "I guess I don’t need to say how good they are when looking at a certain someone's appetite?" For now, his mood was still good, but something was occupying Noah’s mind, which made him worry.
"Kathy, Mr Myers happens to know where you are living, right?" Noah disliked thinking about it, but the perceived peace they had here right now might just be the calm before the storm. "I don’t want to be a party pooper, but maybe we should think about our next move? I wouldn’t be surprised if some marine would knock on your door sooner or later."
Upon thinking of possibilities, Noah quickly came to one idea. "It might not be ideal, but I guess we could crash in my parents’ place. This could at least give us some breathing room." It might not be the best possible outcome, especially if Myers remembers what Noah had said or somebody else of the guards recognized who Noah was, but his family did house revolutionaries in the past and was thus used to covering for them. If Noah could name somebody who could easily coax guards, it would be those two.
But as Kathy was raising her voice, Noah intended to listen. Sabian asked what the redhead wished to know as well.

Removing the kettle from the stove, the mention of her father's whereabouts sent the woman into a trance. She almost zoned out and dropped the pot, but returning to her senses, she'd fix the two cups of tea first before her explanation.
"I don't have many orders for today anyway, so making sure you two escape is fine by me. The marines can only ask me so many questions… Except for some of the lot, the marine presence here has actually helped out Briss quite a bit," Kathy explained. "But yes, staying with your parents might be the best bet." Kathy nodded in approval of Noah's suggestion.
After pouring the hot water over the steeped tea leaves, she'd transfer it from the kettle into a porcelain-styled teapot. It was a bit dingy but seemed to be quite sentimental. "To your question about my dad… He was one of the civilians who perished in the explosion," Kathy declared with a tremble.
Slamming his head onto the table in an apologetic manner, "Once again, on behalf of the Revolutionary Army, I'm truly sorry for your loss! But don't believe everything you read! I swear the NRA isn't the kind of organization that would blow up innocents! I'm currently investigating that personally internally!" Sabian shouted in a passionate manner.
Resting his hand on the [dass]blonde[cmt]Note that "blonde" is typically used to refer to a female with blonde hair. For males, the word used is "blond".[/cmt][/dass]'s shoulder, "Raise your head, Sir McQueen. Believe me. Anyone who lived here before the incident knows the NRA's intent. They've been in the shadows helping us fight against the Crown's corruption. Much like Noah's parents, my father too was an NRA conspirator," Kathy explained, in an attempt to counteract the man's passionate apology.
Serving the freshly steeped cup of Oolong Tea, "I suspect that the NRA is being framed, but I have no evidence as of now. However, that's the least of our issues. The real pressing matter is the unrest among the people," Kathy explained.
Sipping the tea too eagerly to only raspberries in response, the man would fan his burnt tongue, "What's going on in the city?" Sabian would ask with muffled speech.
"There's a rogue rebel leader by the name of Jacq. He used to work with the NRA, but since the explosion, he's gone off on his own and started cutting deals with nobility to enforce a new taxation levy that's been passed by the crown. Essentially, he acts as the guards' hound dogs, and the guards keep the marines at bay. It's been leading to conflicts between us artisans and shop owners in the shopping district and Jacq, with his pack of hooligans," Kathy explained.
"Jacq. I've never heard of 'em. I'm pretty new to the Army myself. If what you're saying is true, though, that's bad news. If both guards and marines are enabling that kind of extortion, then there's no justice for the people," Sabian declared, attempting to sip his tea once more.
"What's worse… is people like me who've lost family in the incident, Jacq has been recruiting rookie guards to collect debts we owed from the last term of taxations. Then, he 'robs' the knights, and the knights come back to us claiming that we're in on it for supporting the rebels in the past. It's just an infinite loop of corruption," Kathy further explained.
Slamming his hand on the table, this time cracking it slightly, "Tch. I hate that. I wanna punch that Jacq Jerk right in his Ugly Mug," Sabian huffed and puffed.
Kathy chuckled, "You're not the only one. But he's a tough cookie. He used to be well-ranked among the rebels; they called him, The Red Fox. His bright burgundy hair and quick movements have even the most veteran of the knights' order afraid of him."
Suddenly, a knock on the store's front door echoed all the way to the back. "Inside! It's the marines! Just a routine checkup! Is there a Miss Lionheart on the inside?!" One of the marines inquired.

Re: [Episode] The Secret & The Recipe
Fri Dec 15, 2023 7:26 pm
Kathy was preparing some tea and Noah decided just to watch. How she moved as if she was in a trance made Noah decide not to pry further. Whatever had happened to her father still seemed to weigh on her mind. The young woman would answer whenever she would be ready to.
A short while later, Kathy simultaneously started talking about what happened and continued in her preparation of the tea. After Noah heard what she had to say and was offered a cup of tea, a simple “thank you” was hard for him to formulate. Instead, when he grabbed the cup of tea, he tried to change his expression to a short but cheerful smile even though it did not manage to reach his eyes, before his head went down again, as did the corners of his mouth.
In the time Kathy described some of the news happening here over the past few weeks, the redhead was quiet. His eyes rested on the cup of tea in his hands, watching the waves he created with his gentle blowing to make the drink cool down faster. As he watched those small waves, he almost managed to put himself in some form of trance while he tried to process the information he was given.
For him, the bombing which the authorities blamed on the NRA was already old news. He would not believe the official version, as the revolutionaries he knew simply operated differently. He would only accept this story as true if some of his superiors would say they ordered it. On the island, there were other targets his companions could have targeted. Nevertheless, the senseless loss of so many human lives was just depressing, especially when meeting somebody of the bereaved. Sabian said what Noah had in mind, which made the redhead continue to listen instead.
Hearing about Jacq, then, was news for Noah. Maybe this was common knowledge for supporters of the revolution or local business owners like his parents, but at least in the time he had spent here recently, nobody had briefed him about this scheme yet. At least when it came to his parents, Noah could understand this. They knew him well and could tell that he would attempt to confront Jacq, even if he would lack the power alone to change anything.
After a moment of silence, Noah ultimately raised his voice. His eyes were no longer glued to the cup in his hands and rather looked at his companions, with focus returning to the young man. "I’m so sorry for what happened, Kathy. Sabian pretty much said whatever I had on my mind, but let me still add one thing." For a moment Noah paused, now managing to produce a genuine and heartfelt smile. "I don’t know if you need it, but I’m sure my parents would gladly take you in if you ever feel the need to back down for a while."
Meanwhile, Kathy managed to smile in response. "Thank you, Noah. I’ll keep that in mind if I ever need an asylum." Afterwards, Noah took a piece of paper he saw lying around and quickly tried to design a crude map of where his family’s smithy would be, while also explaining the way, especially for Sabian as he might not be as familiar with the capital’s streets as Kathy. "In case we end up being forced to part ways: This would be where I live and where you could find shelter. I’m sure you can convince my parents that I send you if you mention me."
Shortly after, when Noah wished to address Jacq, destiny seemed to have other plans. At the shop’s main entrance, rhythmic knocking of fists on wood, paired with shouting, disturbed the pause. It looked like the marines had caught up. "Great, so much for planning in peace. Unless you want to confront them here and now or have other ideas, I’d offer to buy some time so that you two can relocate. I know the area here and should be able to shake off some pursuers."

Snarling, Sabian declared, "I'll go out there and give those Marines a piece of my mind," marching toward the storefront entrance. Kathy, disapproving, opened her arms widely, nodding her head. "Everything can't be solved by violence," she frowned.
"Noah, take Sabian and go. Trust me. I'll be fine. If anything, you two should be looking at Jacq and his men. Maybe the army isn't aware of his betrayal. I have a feeling he might be playing both sides," Kathy explained. Begrudgingly, Noah was instructed to drag the blonde away.
Sneaking through the back door, they escaped into an adjacent alleyway, Noah leading the charge towards his parents' home. "I didn't even know things were crazy in this sea too. Where there's royalty, there's corruption," Sabian bit his lip in frustration.
Sabian placed his hood over his head again, concealing his golden hair. Through the streets, he saw a slump in activity. Since the bombing, many businesses lost their cornerstone founders, and Kathy's story wasn't uncommon.
Sweetwater investigated around town for any new illegal entries. The rebels had a knack for getting in and out of Briss without much hassle. "Yeah, a weird one with blonde hair came in earlier," the old smuggler snitched. "He kept muttering about paint supplies and the perfect canvas... Definitely an oddball."
"Matches the reports from earlier," Sweetwater mumbled. Sliding the man a pack of tobacco, he tipped his hat and continued his investigation. "Sabian McQueen... Looks like things are about to get rowdy again on Briss."
From their position in the capital, they could see the destroyed World Government Embassy in the distance. The roads leading to the site were shut off, but its path could still be accessed from the capital. To prevent the area from becoming a safe haven for bandits, the Crown and Marines jointly patrolled it frequently.
After a few blocks, Sabian arrived at Noah's abode.

Noah moved downstairs, mentally preparing himself for the confrontation at hand. He did not plan to actively battle every soldier the authorities had sent to deal with the trio. If anything, he would try to keep them busy for a while so that the other two could escape, before trying to surprise the soldiers to start his escape soon after. But, as Sabian soon declared, he had no intention of running away.
[npc=navy]”Open the door! This is your last warning!”[/npc] Just when Noah got ready to respond, Kathy declared how she would be the one to deal with the authorities at the front door. As time was starting to run out, Noah complied and grabbed Sabian. "Just don’t be reckless, okay?" Before leaving through the backdoor, he once again heard Kathy. "Don’t worry, I will. Just look after each other for me, will you?" Her words were accompanied by a quick smile before she turned to the front door. "I’m coming, alright? Gosh, could you please be careful and not damage my door?"
As the redhead left the shop behind him, he quickly lost track of what Kathy was saying. For now, he had to keep trust in her. Noah led the way through desolate streets to reduce the risk of encountering patrols. After a short while, he said a few words. "Sorry for dragging you away, but I’m sure we can still bail her out if need be." After a short break, he continued. "Which Sea are you from, by the way? While I wouldn’t say that any noble-run country is a tyranny per se, I still have to hear of the odd one out. So, I guess you have a point?"
After a few more minutes in which Noah carefully looked around, he eventually stood before his home. "Here we are." Noah quickly entered the shop, announcing his return with a quick "I’m home!", before he ran into his mother. From the smithy, Noah could hear how his father was working. "That’s perfect. You never know who’s listening in. If you would follow me, please?" Before his mother could answer or react in any way, she was already gently pushed forward. "Oh, that’s Sabian McQueen, by the way, also working for the NRA.” For a short moment, she was given the chance to welcome the guest. "Now, about what happened…"
Soon after, Noah reported about the events he witnessed today while watching his parents’ reactions. Both were relatively old, in their late fifties, with their hair slowly turning grey. His father was still in good shape thanks to all the manual labour he did, while his mother was usually the more talkative one, as she was running the shop. At first, Noah thought his father’s hammering would make it easier to talk openly about what happened, but the more he heard what his son had done, the slower he started to smith. "So, that’s about it."
"You don’t happen to know anything about this Jacq, do you?" Noah could see how his parents were unwilling to talk about this topic, but his mother was ultimately the first to break the silence. ”Oh, honey, what have you gotten yourself into now? That’s nobody you want to deal with.” As a response, Noah was just smiling. "Well, you could maybe manage to convince me to stay low, but I’m sure somebody here will go if you warn him or not." While talking, he pointed towards Sabian. "Everything you can tell us could make our work easier. Oh, and could you please contact someone to see if everything’s okay with Kathy? This would take another burden off our shoulders."

"Sometimes, I guess I have a habit of losing my cool. You're right. Kathy seems reliable," Sabian retorted. "I'm from the West Blue. I'm an orphan, so I wouldn't say I have a particular country I claim, but Ilisa is where my adopted dad and foster family are from," Sabian declared, shooting a smile, which he couldn't help but do when speaking about the kids back home. "I did a stint in the Hapo Army in my twenties, but then unfortunately, my mentor passed, and shortly after, a friend of his recommended I join the movement," Sabian explained.
Moments before arriving at Noah's home, "They relocated me to the West because of an operation going on in my homeland. They thought it'd be too emotionally attached to respond accordingly, so they sent me here," Sabian concluded. Arriving at the Blacksmith's Home, the smell of burning metal and hot coals filled the half-dinosaur man's nostrils.
Entering the home, Sabian noticed something during Noah's introduction, 'also working for the NRA.' "Working? I thought they were conspirators… Wait? Are you in the NRA?" Castor inquired, daft at all of the hints being dropped prior to the initial group chat.
Carrying on, Noah explained the situation to his parents, and they attentively listened as Sabian hung back to the side with his arms folded. Noah's mother had offered him some tea and treats, but he'd still been full from the buffet of treats he'd had, so he respectfully declined.
The reactions on Noah's parents' faces made him suspicious of this Jacq character even more. Noah's father would stop smithing and turn his attention to two young revolutionaries. "Jacq. The Red Fox. He's a rebel who's been known to help liberate small towns across the West. He settled here about three years ago after getting married to a young lady from this area. However, she passed away tragically. And he didn't respond to that well," Noah's dad explained.
"Jacq started to play all sides of the fence. Revolutionaries. Marines. Pirates. Selling information is his specialty, and he ain't half bad with a blade either. He's bad news."
Nodding, "I've heard enough. I've finally realized what we need to do. Break into Jacq's base. Bust up his goonies, and interrogate him for the information we need. I'll leave the reports to you, Noah; I'm not good with that stuff," Sabian reassured himself. "Then maybe we can figure out more information about the bombing and what's really going on here in Briss," Sabian concluded.
Walking into the Blacksmith's Shop unannounced, Marine Captain Sweetwater and a few of his men had barged into the premises. "I come only to talk. You're Sabian McQueen, right? From the incident in the square earlier today?" Sweetwater inquired.
"I don't speak to people who barge into other people's homes unannounced," Sabian scoffed, sliding smoothly into a fighting stance.
“Ah,” Sweetwater exclaimed, scratching his head, "Sorry about that, but time is of the essence. My name is Marine Captain Grayson Sweetwater. I'm in charge of monitoring petty cases here on Briss. I'm also currently looking into this Jacq the Red Fox character who many of my men seem to be in bed with," Sweetwater explained.
"And what does that have to do with us?" Sabian inquired angrily.
"I saw your handy work in the capital's square. You seem tough. But all brawn's no brains won't get us anywhere. The fact I can find you so easily means he can as well,”Sweetwater explained. "And Jacq isn't a kind man. He hates being looked into or challenged. He'll use violence or even malevolent crimes, anything to keep eyes off himself."
Taking everything in, "So what do you suggest we do?" Sabian inquired reluctantly.
"I'll give you the location of his place. You'll give us an excuse to raid due to NRA interference. Unfortunately, I have a hunch he's in bed with one of superiors. So unless I have an active reason to impede his turf, I'll just get reassigned. You're the first rebels I've encountered since the bombing, well, the only ones who'd allow me to talk this long," Sweetwater concluded.

"Oh? Guess I didn’t make it apparent enough." Noah started speaking in a short moment of silence. "I was pretty much raised by supporters of the revolutionary movement. I guess after they found and took me in as their child, growing up with their point of view, it’s natural that I took up arms." The redhead did not make it explicit, but technically he was adopted as well. With no idea who his biological family might be, Noah probably had a more cheerful upbringing than other children in similar situations.
"Though I’m technically still a newbie. I started working in the field a few weeks ago and today’s events may shape to be one of my first missions. So, you may very well be much more experienced than I am!" To undermine his words, a cheerful smile stretched from ear to ear on his face. While it was just a short gesture to lighten the mood, Noah quickly turned serious again when his father talked about Jacq. The more the boy heard about this figure, his dislike for him just continued to grow.
"I’ve got your back, Sabian. I’m sure that I will be able to find some fancy descriptions to report whatever will happen to Jacq." One of the corners of his mouth went up in a grin to undermine the statement, just to quickly go down again when an uninvited guest entered the shop. A marine officer confronted the group. Intuitively, Noah tensed up, his hand moved to Kanshou, while molten anger rolled through him. Noah would not hesitate to confront a marine if he had to, but, if possible, he would prefer to keep his family out. Thus, if glances could kill, Sweetwater would already lay dead on the ground.
"What do you think you’re doing here?" The redhead did not even try to hide his animosity while spitting these words out. The boy just waited for the right moment to strike. However, the captain did not seem to take the bait, barely showing any interest in Noah. “Oh, please. If I had any ill intent in mind, I wouldn’t be talking to you here, but interrogate you in some marine dungeon.” To further rub salt into the wound, Sweetwater just waved in Noah’s direction, signalling he was interested in Sabian. He didn’t even look in Noah’s direction.
Before Noah could commit any form of stupidity, his father acted and just placed one of his hands on Noah’s shoulder. Seeing his father’s eyes formulating the simple ”don’t” without it even leaving his mouth, was everything the redhead needed to snap out of his rage. For now, he settled down to observe. Watching the marines’ every move and listening in to the conversation between Sweetwater and Sabian. Mentally, he prepared to strike whenever he heard something he actively disliked.
The next time Noah raised his voice was when the conversation between both men came to a temporary end. "Let’s assume that we would cooperate. How can we be sure that this won’t be an elaborate trap?" After what felt like an eternity, Sweetwater finally gazed at Noah. “That’s the neat part. You have to take my peaceful arrival as a sign of my good intent. Remember, cooperation can be beneficial for both of us.” An allusive smile crept over Sweetwater’s lips, which Noah tried to mimic to the best of his abilities. Imagining how the officer’s head rolled over the floor certainly made it easier.

Extending his hand, Sabian declared, "Let's shake on it. If a man breaks a promise made with a handshake, then he's no man at all," spitting into his palm. Slightly disturbed, Grayson accepted the man's gesture, and the two shook on a truce. Turning to Noah, he extended his hand in a gesture to shake as well.
"According to the reports, Jacq has been operating out of the abandoned embassy," Sweetwater explained.
"The one that was bombed? I thought that area was being patrolled by knights and marines," Noah's father inquired.
"Yeah, and that's the disturbing part. Those enlisted in that area have been turning a blind eye. Kidnappings. Petty crimes. And information brokering has been Jacq's main bread and butter. He's the kind of person who manipulates and blackmails others into doing his bidding," Sweetwater explained.
"That's why I left a few of my men at Miss Lionheart’s house. The man you attacked in the capital is definitely in cahoots with Jacq's faction."
Over at Kathy's bakery, the marines sent to guard her home were left unconscious and covered in bruises. Hiding underneath the table in her pantry, Jacq's men, accompanied by the knight who was assaulted by Sabian, stormed the pastry shop in search of the woman.
Finally, with no more rooms left to search, the small pack of six men raided the pantry, tossing the furniture and stock aside until they discovered Kathy hiding beneath the dusty oak table. "Hey there, Miss Lionheart. I'm looking for your lanky friend. I have some unfinished business with him," Jonathan inquired.
"I'm not sure who you're referring to. If you mean the man who attacked you in the square, we went separate ways after—," Kathy's statement was interrupted by Myers' palm covering the woman's mouth and lifting her up with one hand. "Look. I don't even mind that I got knocked out, but the real issue is the optics of this. How are people supposed to pay their taxes to someone who gets knocked out by a pretty boy outsider?! Huh?! I made a deal with Jacq to rule with an iron fist—"
Before the man could finish his sentence, Kathy struck him in the Crown Jewels, and with his grip weakened, broke away from his person. However, Jacq's men laid in wait, and with a chemically laced cloth, rendered Kathy unconscious. "Take her to the 'factory' and go through the back; the neighbors in this area are nosy," Jonathan concluded.
Meanwhile, back at Noah's house, Sweetwater explained the plan. It was simple. Noah and Sabian would break into the base searching for incriminating evidence on Jacq—records, books, anything they could get their hands on. Then, Sweetwater would show up for a 'routine' patrol once he has the signal, and the evidence would be planted in a place where he'd discover it.
Using his position in the marines, he'd have Sweetwater arrested, but he'd never make it to HQ; the transfer posse would be raided by the NRA. Then, after things cool down, they'd be able to interrogate at their leisure. "And that's the plan," Sweetwater concluded.
Too many words had Sabian's head spinning. "Ugh… so… I just go in and find proof that this Red Fox dude is dirty, and then you arrest him, and we steal him back and—," Sabian began to mumble to himself hysterically.
Rushing into the Smith's shop abruptly, two of Sweetwater's men came to deliver the bad news. Sighing in frustration, Sweetwater turned to relay the unfortunate update. "Now calm down, you two. What I'm about to tell you is upsetting, but I need you to approach this level-headed. Your friend Kathy has been abducted by Jacq's men. They're taking her to the abandoned embassy. Which means nothing in our plan—"
Before Sweetwater could complete his statement, Sabian shot off into the streets of Briss, B-lining it towards the abandoned Marine Embassy.

After Sweetwater’s proposal had time to sink in, the situation, at least from Noah’s perspective, started to calm down. His lips were not moving, eyes fixating on the soldiers, but Noah stopped being on edge. When he was offered a handshake the boy responded, but kept quiet. He might not be fully happy with the circumstances leading to this cooperation, but he definitely did not need to rub more salt into the wound. Shortly after, the conversation focused on Jacq again, which the redhead did not want to miss.
Apparently, Jacq moved his base into the remains of the embassy which was the target of the recent bombing. Of course, bribing or recruiting enough officials seemed to ensure that his plans could work undisturbed. "And it’s not as if he has to fear that some unlucky passersby walk into his territory, given how tightly supervised this area is." When Noah heard about the precautions Sweetwater initiated, regarding Kathy, the redhead felt at ease. He just hoped that this would be no ruse.
Shortly after, a plan was made on how the alliance would handle Jacq. Noah just wanted to explain the plan to Sabian again, when a duo of soldiers entered the shop. As Noah should soon learn, they had bad news to tell. Kathy was kidnapped and brought to the embassy’s grounds- so much for her being safe. Hardly any time passed before Sabian already stormed away. A sigh of resignation left Noah’s lips. This rash temper was definitely something Noah would need some more time to adjust to.
"I better go after him and try to convince him not to do something he will regret later!" Before someone else could say anything else, Noah started to already leave his family’s shop. The only thing he could still hear was a ”Stay safe!” his mother quickly sent his way.
Guessing Sabian would directly run to the embassy, Noah quickly sprinted in the same direction and soon managed to close the gap to the blonde. "Hey, Sabian, calm down! If you just storm through the front door, we have no idea what they’ll do to Kathy! Any plan would be better than none right now!" Noah temporarily paused to catch his breath, before he continued. "I want to save Kathy, just like you. But if you have to charge head first into trouble, wait at least a few minutes so that I can try to reach Kathy via another way. If we both run into the trap, we do exactly what they want- allowing them to use Kathy against us. And I assume you don’t want to do as they tell you to, right?"
WC: 444Apparently, Jacq moved his base into the remains of the embassy which was the target of the recent bombing. Of course, bribing or recruiting enough officials seemed to ensure that his plans could work undisturbed. Sunflower (向日葵)
"Hold on, Sabian!" Sweetwater shouted before facepalming.
As Noah chased the man through the streets, a million thoughts ran through the dinosaur's head. Firstly, he felt stupid for leaving her in that bakery all alone. Secondly, he should've known better than to trust marines to get the job done. He didn't know what irritated him more – his own incompetence or theirs.
He heard Noah's voice urging him to calm down or think of a plan, but that wasn't his forte. Sabian was into simple equations – his fist plus Jacq's face equaled Kathy's freedom. Something about Noah's reasoning reminded him of Sensei Fu, and his mad dash stopped right in its tracks.
Noah, about six foot one, and Sabian a few inches taller, turned to Noah's direction. Sabian reached for the man's collar and grabbed it firmly. "If anything happens to her, Noah, that's on me, okay?! I got her into this mess with my stupid actions! What am I supposed to do, sit around and just take orders from that pretty-boy marine brat? On the battlefield, kid, hesitation leads to death! I've seen too much of that!" Sabian barked.
Finally catching up with his men, "McQueen! Noah's right! And this ain't the place to have this conversation either! Cool it!" Sweetwater shouted, as the posse of marines and revolutionaries stood in the middle of the downtown district squabbling about what the right move was with the possibility of Jacq's men being everywhere.
Walking into whispering distance of both men, "That's what he wants! You dashing in there like a madman. He'll use your anger to his advantage because that's the type of man he is. So calm down, and let's have this conversation somewhere else," Sweetwater whispered.
Breaking apart the two, Sabian rejected both men's words. "Y'all handle the plan! I'll be a distraction! Just save Kathy!" Sabian whispered back, releasing Noah's collar and shuffling backward slightly. "The way I plan to attack their base, all eyes will be on me! Use that as a way to sneak in from another entrance!" Sabian whispered before dashing off once again.
Ground Zero | Bombing Site - Abandoned Embassy
Thirty minutes later, after running several blocks toward the abandoned Embassy's perimeter, Sabian finally arrived at the wooden barricade guarded by a party of three. Panting from all the running, the guard descended from the barricade to investigate the situation.
"Oi. Blonde. Are you lost or something? This is a restricted area! Why are you covered in sweat, disgusting? What happened?" One of the Knights inquired. Unable to catch his breath at first, one of the other knights offered him a drink of water from his canister. Gobbling down the water, Sabian gave out a loud burp and a deep exclamation of relief.
"Ugh. Gross." One of the guards said scornfully.
"Now tell us what's the problem, sir?" The final knight inquired.
Smiling from ear to ear, "You're way too small in the pecking order to help me!" Sabian declared, beginning his transformation into his Zoan form. Firstly, his skin turned a deep shade of green, as the skin on his body went from smooth to scaly, McQueen's body grew to about sixteen feet in the air. His elongated jaw latched open to let out a massive roar that shook the very earth the guards stood on.
Swiping his tail in a hostile fashion, Sabian sent three guards flying into the wood barricade in one sweep. "Kathy! Jacq! Bring Miss Lionheart out here now! Grrrrrr!" Sabian shouted, lunging over the barricade and B-lining it toward the embassy.
The alarms around what was left of the base began to ring off. Reports of a massive dinosaur rampaging in Jacq's turf made it all the way to the man's ears. Tucked safely away in the base's underground bunkers, the Red Fox watched the dinosaur's menacing figure from his security Den Den Mushi.
Eyes latched to the screen's display, Jacq tossed the woman who'd been caressing his chest off of him and ran for a cigar from his drawer. Inspecting the screen momentarily, The Red Fox took two puffs of his Imperial-branded Cubano Cigar and let out a loud chuckle.
"I recognize that ability. I have him in my notes. Sabian McQueen. Newly recruited to the NRA. The bigwigs think they can send a new pup after me. I haven't even contacted HQ in almost a year, and this is who they sent? Some kid with a Similac fresh on his breath!" Jacq howled.
A few of his men gathered in his room in disarray. "Sir! There's a dinosaur rampaging within the embassy's border! W-What do we do?" One of the men stuttered.
"Calm down. Where did you stash the broad?" Jacq inquired.
"In the East Wing, like you instructed, sir, with all the other packages!" One of the guards commented slyly.
"Good. Let our dinosaur friend here have his little temper tantrum. We'll plan to suit. Grab the girl and meet me at the embassy's entrance. Oh, and pull all of our cannons out of storage! It's time to go BBQ hunting, boys!" Jacq shouted with another wolf-like howl.

Re: [Episode] The Secret & The Recipe

Noah did not know what he should expect after starting his chase, but the fact that Sabian was not listening was no surprise. After running his chest widened and shrank in quick succession as his lungs hastily tried to supply his body with oxygen, small droplets of sweat formed on Noah’s forehead, but the boy did not intend to show a sign of weakness. As soon as the blonde grabbed Noah by his collar, he simply returned the look, unfazed.
"And what do you plan to achieve like this?!" Trying to keep his cool as best as possible, Noah started one last attempt to reason with his companion. "Comply and you invite them to do with Kathy whatever they want. Rob them of the illusion that they have a trick up their sleeves, take back control, and you can win the upper hand." While talking, Noah had to try to ignore the irony he found in his words- the 101 he heard about frequently on how to deal with terrorists, a principal some marines might use when dealing with his companions. "The moment you charge through their front door you start to threaten Kathy’s life- not sooner!"
Alas, as luck would have it, Sabian decided to follow his instincts and not listen to reason. Noah suspected that the blonde would act this way, but it nonetheless damped his mood. While his body had some time to regain stamina in this short quarrel, the burden that was placed on Noah weighed all the more. "If you think kamikaze is the way, then so be it…", mumbled Noah after Sabian was already gone while gently massaging his temples.
When Sweetwater signalled Noah to follow, the revolutionary simply complied. Right now, he felt too exhausted to show resistance. While he still felt some resentment regarding the officer for entering his home uninvited, Noah tried to cooperate as best as he could. Right now, the enemy of his enemy was a friend. "With the clock now ticking, anything you can tell me about their base layout?" If possible, Noah would rather not search aimlessly through the enemy's base. While he assumed most of the forces would try to deal with Sabian, the few men left behind could still stall Noah.
Instead of answering immediately, Sweetwater started to unfold a plan on a table in front of the men. “While I am unable to offer a guarantee on the layout, that’s roughly the information we could gather so far.” In the time Sweetwater was talking, he started to mark a few places. “This should be where Sabian will most likely end up in his rampage. I suggest that’s precisely where you avoid to be for now and focus on other tasks.” The officer was now pointing to two points next to each other. “This should be somewhere you could enter discretely, based on our research. In addition, I heard how that’s roughly where they imprison people, so you could probably find your friend there.”
"And I guess that’s where Jacq’s office is and where I should place the faked evidence?" Noah tried to speed up the process a bit. Sweetwater simply nodded and handed a small bundle of documents over. The redhead took a quick look at it, before storing it away. “Store those somewhere we can find it and as soon as the signal is sent, we will make our move. Just be safe and keep your friend at bay, will you?” Noah nodded before he was on his way. While he only knew Sabian for a few hours, keeping the blonde at bay might be easier said than done.
Feeling how time was working against him, Noah soon hurried to where he should find a tunnel to enter Jacq’s base. While the redhead did not sprint to save energy, as soon as he entered more desolate areas of the city, he transformed into his hybrid form and moved over the rooftops. Up there, he could avoid running into knights, while simultaneously using his wings a bit more easily to move from rooftop to rooftop. Similarly, he could catch a glimpse of the chaos Sabian was creating- at least that was the conclusion Noah reached after seeing a dino near the embassy.
Shortly after, Noah arrived at his destination. When he saw two guards watching over the entry point he wished to use, the revolutionary concluded that he was at the right place. Catching his breath one last time, Noah soon charged down, knocking the guards out before they realized what happened to them. "Let’s see what awaits me inside."

Sunflower (산빠쿠)
Revolutionary HQ - [dass]A Few Years Prior[cmt]Is this a retcon? Because according to his bio, he hasn't been a zoan-user or even an NRA recruit for more than a year.[/cmt][/dass]
Passed out on the ground, an exhausted Sabian breathed vigorously on the border of life and death. The Revolutionary recruits looked on as Sabian challenged the impossible executive.
“He just keeps on getting up, those bruises look painful.” One of the rebels commented.
“At least I’ll give him effort for his spirit. That Zoan of his, though powerful, looks like he can’t maintain transformations for any longer than a minute. His threshold for damage is above average but his thought process… it’s too straight forward.” Another rebel chimed in.
Present Day - Abandoned Embassy
One by one, Sabian toppled over the barricades and trees surrounding the base before arriving at the embassy’s entrance.
Waiting for him by the gate was a pack of Jacq’s men, each armed with a variety of firearms, pistols, shotguns and even muskets. Even more menacing was the line of canons that manned the embassy’s walls, the barrel of each was aimed at Sabian’s general vicinity.
Taking hold of a loudspeaker which was wired to transfer sound across the transmitter snails, the phylum mollusca speakers boomed heckling the Allosaurus menace to society. “Ugh.” The first utterance of the loudspeaker spiked, “Look kid. I read my men’s report. We’re batting on the same team here. I don’t know who sent you to do this but if you continue with this behavior, I’ll have to shut you down with force.” Jacq announced, safely positioned behind a pack of hooligans.
Burrowing his feet into the mud, Sabian buckled his body, and with enough distance broke into a running charge. The force of the man’s movement was dangerous but before Jacq caught onto what was about to happen, it’d be too late. Smashing his entire body through the stone wall, Sabian broke a hole through the men’s defenses, causing many of the guards who guarded the wall to fall from it with severe injuries.
Four Minutes Since Sabian Transformed.
As the debris from the shattered wall created a veil of dust inhibiting everyone’s present vision, Jacq’s eyes were a lot more attuned, singling out Sabian by manning a cannon himself. Opening fire, Jacq began to open fire on the dinosaur, rocking his body with several shells of explosives.
Channeling Hasshoken shockwaves into his tail, Sabian slammed his tail into the ground, causing a miniature earth tremor that rocked the surrounding area momentarily.
30 Seconds Remaining in Sabian’s transformation.
As the debris and dust cleared, finally, Jacq and Sabian came face to face with each other, no men or physical structures separating them.
“You’ve got some moves kid! But I can sense it! You’ve taken way too much damage and it seems that your transformation of yours isn’t holding up!” Jacq shouted. “Being Zoan has its pros and cons. Some users have problems maintaining their complete animal state for too long.” Jacq theorized.
“After all! I should know-“ Jacq howled before transforming into a giant red fox. Springing towards Sabian’s mid-section in a spear like manner, he’d impale the prehistoric reptile, transforming him back into his human form. As Sabian’s body ricochets off the concrete, spending him tumbling at Jacq’s feet.
Turning back into his human form, the man grinned at the revolutionary whose body was covered in bruises. Picking up the whipper snapper from the nape of his neck, the experienced veteran strategizes about his next course of action.
“Now. Should I torture you until I get my answers or should I cut that chick up and ship her body parts back to the Marines and have them pay me a ransom and blame it all on the NRA once again.” Jacq teased. The man’s words lit a fire in Sabian’s stomach once more, and with whatever energy he’d have remaining, a stomp of his metallic boots swole the man’s toe, freeing himself from the lunatic.
Lunging two paces back, with one eye half closed, Sabian passionately stared down the wolf man. “Sorry. I passed out there for a minute. What were you saying again?” Sabian inquired, smirking.
Transforming half of his body into a wolf’s own and maintaining a human bottom, the werewolf figure hovered ominously over the green eyed, blonde hair knight of justice. “I’ll say this one more time… Where’s Kathy?” Sabian inquired snarling.
“I killed that bitch. I think. Can’t quite remember at this time.” Jacq teased. Rushing towards Jacq in a fit of rage, Sabian spun his lanky torso to throw a kick towards his face. Intercepting the man’s kick, Jacq overpowered Sabian and tossed him into the ground. “Silly Queenie. You lead with your emotions don’t you?!” Jacq shouted, subsequently firing off another kick into Sabain’s ribs.
As the man curled up in a fetal position on the floor, wincing in pain, the painter guarded his hands quickly from the onslaught. Noticing the gesture, Jacq beat Sabian senseless until the clutch he’d maintained to protect his hands was cracked open. Laying on his back now, with several fractures accumulated, Sabian’s hands were now exposed.
Attempting to stomp on them, Sabian rolled away to avert any damage. “Ah I see. What’s so precious about those hands of yours?” Jacq inquired with a devilish smile.
“Tch. Wasting my perfect hands on a roughneck like yours would be a waste. My hands are to be used for two things, paint brushes and kind ladies!” Sabian shouted with pride.
The man’s declaration caused Jacq and his men to break into laughter. “Oh! Lookie here boys! We have an old fashioned lover boy on our hands! I bet you're the type to swing into action to save a lady in need huh? Disgusting!” Jacq shouted, before feinting a strike to his hands, only stomping his boot against Sabian’s face.
“I hate your type the most. Talk up a big game but can’t save a soul. It really pisses me off. I joined the Revolutionary Army after watching my village get burned down to the ground by a bunch of pirates. My mother assaulted and my father mutilated. However, I found out later that those pirates were hired to flatten my village at a certain marines command. So I used the NRA’s resources to hunt him down and gutted him like a pig.” Jacq explained.
“That's why I left the army unofficially. The marines couldn’t give me the justice I needed and the rebels were way too trusting. I’m a bottom feeder, survival is my main priority!” Jacq shouted.
Stumbling back to his feet, Sabian dusted himself off, making sure to check his hands for any bruises or calluses. Sighing a breath of relief, “I’m sorry to hear the system took away those who you valued most. Honestly, that sucks. However, loss isn’t the excuse to dive into your inhibitions and hurt others. That’s what the weak do. You’re right about me. Everything you said, I am the type to save a damsel in distress. Heck, I’m even the type to jump in front of a bullet to save a stranger's life. Why? Because… A stranger’s kindness saved me from a life of loneliness.” Sabian declared, smiling whole heartedly.
“Weak… I’m far from that!” Jacq shouted, swiftly dashing in Sabian direction. Side stepping the man’s charge, Sabian feinted with a right hook, dropping his hand short, to fire off a barrage of kicks to the man’s chest cage. The shockwaves from the Hasshoken infused strikes rattled the man’s body from head to toe.
Smirking, “I didn’t know a goodie two shoes like you could use dirty tactics like that.”
“I’ll use anything at my disposal to win this fight. It’s a matter of principles. Losing here is like losing a lifelong battle with myself.” Sabian declared. “We’ll see whose philosophy makes them stronger. Someone who chose to kill in the name of revenge or someone who fights in the name of justice and love!” Sabian shouted.
Cringing, “How do you scream that stuff out loud? Aren’t you embarrassed?” Jacq inquired.

Re: [Episode] The Secret & The Recipe
Thu Dec 21, 2023 6:52 pm
The two guards in front of Noah’s feet had different clothing, which prompted Noah not to change his outfit. He concluded that it would be at least possible not to be identified as an intruder immediately if he walked into the base now. Well, assuming there was no other form of identification the redhead was not aware of. A transformation into his human self later, he opened the door.
The first few steps Noah could take were uneventful. Luckily for him, the way forward was relatively straightforward and security surprisingly thin- probably thanks to Sabian’s rampage. A few moments later, one last door was all that blocked him from his destination. His hand wrapped around the door handle, Noah took one final breath and hoped he would not run into a trap. With a swift movement, he swung the door open and quickly passed, fully entering the enemy’s base.
Noah looked around and tried to find any oddity, but soon the silence set in around him. No guns aimed at him and no shouting inquired what he was doing here. "Good, where to now?", mumbled Noah. He took a moment to orient himself before he found his way. [npc=misc]”Hey, you, boy. What do you think you are doing down here? Forces are required at the entrance!”[/npc] Great, as luck would have it, somebody had to run into Noah.
"Oh, I’m sent to fetch more supplies. We don’t want our gunners to run out of ammunition now, don’t we?" Noah pointed with one thumb in the direction he wished to go, while slowly walking towards the man. He doubted his little trick would work, so he wanted to close as much of the distance to his target as he could right now in peace. [npc=misc]”Wait, isn’t the storage-“[/npc] When Noah realized how his lie started to bust, he quickly moved forward and overwhelmed the man. Calming down for a moment, he quickly continued his trip.
Without any further obstacles, Noah managed to reach his destination. He soon entered a room full of cells and found a group of men attempting to take a woman away. Not just any woman: Kathy, though the young lady did her best to resist. "Oh no I won’t. Hands off me, creep!" Still standing in the doorway out of sight, Noah could see how the pastry chef kicked one of the men who tried to enter her cell. ”Calm down, girl. I’m just doing my job. Stop resisting!” When Noah looked more closely, he thought that this voice sounded familiar, just to realize that he run into the man already today: Jonathan Myers.
As it seemed, Sweetwater was not lying when he had said that Myers was working for Jacq. And it seemed that he still was not done with Kathy. Before the situation would end in unnecessary harm for her, Noah started to quietly walk into the room, placing his hand on his sword. When Kathy happened to realize that Noah was on his way, she visibly panicked when yet another man entered the room. However, Noah quickly smiled and put his other index finger in front of his mouth to signal that she should be quiet, before seeing how she quickly calmed down after comprehending how help was coming.
When Kathy pushed a guard away once more, Noah started to strike. "Hands off her!" Drawing his sword and swiftly starting an attack managed to not just surprise the group of guards but was already enough to send the small fry flying. In the end, Myers was the only one who managed to draw his sword in time to parry. ”Who do we have here now?” Visibly annoyed by the sudden change in circumstances, Myers’ gaze sent daggers in Noah’s way. ”Wait, I know you! You are one of the punks I’ve run into today!”
Noah pushed Myers away. Luckily for them, the room was spacious enough to allow both men to swing their weapons. "Yes, me. It’s called customer service. I still got a blade to deliver." Noah charged forward, starting a barrage of strikes which Myers still managed to parry, but failed to immediately counterattack. "Where should I put it? Any preference?" For a moment, a coltish smile crazed Noah’s lips as he did his best to mock his opponent.
A short while later Myers was enraged enough and started his attack. Now, Noah was the one on the defence, having to take a beating. Being indoors was something which hindered Noah more than he would like to admit. In other scenarios, he could simply turn into his beast form to overwhelm many opponents he had had in the past. Unfortunately for him, a closed base was not the ideal setting for a giant bird to manoeuvre in. ”Is that all you got? Ha! Thinking of challenging us with that pitiful performance. Time to put you in your place!”
The next time Myers attacked Noah did not parry but jumped back. Deciding to quickly end the battle, he switched to his hybrid form. "Of course that’s not all. Why should I start with my trump card?" He disliked the idea of reinforcements arriving, so he hoped this change would quickly end this battle. Now, as a human-falcon hybrid his attacks packed a bigger punch but, more importantly, his appearance now additionally intimidated Myers. He could not only focus on Noah’s blade but had to be aware of his talons now too, as they could easily tear through flesh as well. A few combos later, the battle came to an end when Myers was sent flying into the wall behind him.
Noah looked around, checking if any more attackers arrived and when he was sure that none were there, he turned back into his human self. Barely a moment later, Kathy hugged him. "Are you alright?" The young lady looked Noah up and down, worrying about the wounds he received in the clash. "Don’t worry about me, I’m used to it. Are you hurt?" Now, Noah was the one checking her, just to realize that she might be in better shape than he was. Both quickly updated each other on what had happened, before they were already on their way again.
Noah took the lead to handle the occasional enemy they ran into, as they still had a mission to fulfil. Well, one other than escaping successfully. They now headed towards Jacq’s office to plant the evidence as requested. As Noah had feared, resistance increased the nearer they got to the office. But, as he immediately switched into his hybrid form, barely any of the grunts managed to withstand an attack if they even engaged him to begin with. A short while later, they reached their goal.
"If you find any suspicious-looking documents, take them. I don’t fully trust this Sweetwater and want something up our sleeves if need be." As instructed, Kathy quickly looked around, while Noah did his part. In front of the desk, he first took a moment to one more time inspect the faked evidence he was given before putting it in a container. In this hurry, he could not find anything suspicious and thus hoped that it would simply end well. Fetching his Den Den Mushi, he quickly contacted Sweetwater. "Your turn’s up, we’re getting out of here." Before the officer could respond, Noah hung up and signalled for Kathy to follow him.
"Sorry in advance already, I’ll probably grab you soon. If I do this, hold on tight- I plan to fly as soon as we’re outdoors. Sabian was alone long enough." Heading to Sabian might not be the brightest idea, but Noah wanted to make sure that the blonde was still alive. And it was not as if Mr. McQueen had a monopoly on making dumb decisions, right?
"Looks like you two boys are having fun," Sweetwater declared from a distance. The incoming posse of Marines secured the perimeter as the captain made his way to Sabian's and Jacq's positions in the middle of the embassy courtyard.
"I recognize that smug voice anywhere. Well, if it isn't Captain Grayson Sweetwater. To what pleasure do I have this visit? As you can see, I'm in the middle of an attack on my life. Some assistance would be appreciated," Jacq declared sarcastically, knowing the situation wasn't a flavorful one.
"A Marine helping out a wanted criminal like yourself. It's already against the law to be cooped up in the Ground Zero sight of a Marine investigation. From the looks of it, it seems like it's more than just a hideout for some bandits. I'm seeing ammunition, cannons, and I'm pretty sure none of them are registered," Sweetwater commented, backing Jacq into a corner.
"Why don't you give your superiors a call and ask them about my activities here, huh?" Jacq rebutted in a sly manner.
"Oh dear... It seems like Den Den communications are currently down in the area. And since I'm the commanding officer here, arrest both men! The rest of you surrender now or suffer more severe charges! Search the premises, men!" Sweetwater barked out three orders in succession.
Using the distraction, Sabian delivered a one-two combo to Jacq's face, shoulder, and neck using his shockwave-generating feet. Transforming into his Full Zoan form after the first hit, the man's canine-like body absorbed the shock of the remaining blows.
"Seems like today just isn't my day! Don't surrender, men! Attack! We'll cover up the NRA brat and the Marines' involvement at a later time!" Jacq howled, commanding his stooges to open fire.
Ten Years Ago | Happo Navy
The Long-Armed Man by the name of Fu stood elegantly amongst his new flock of fledglings. Amongst them was eighteen-year-old Sabian McQueen, who'd been sleeping standing at attention due to the length of the introduction ceremony.
Walking up to the sleepy brat, Fu would press his palm gently against the teen's chest, generating a shockwave that would wake up the loud painter. Wailing out in pain, dropping on the floor and rolling from side to side, "What was that?!" Sabian screamed out.
"That was for sleeping on the job. The technique I used is referred to as The Eight Fist Impact or Hasshoken," Fu explained.
"Fists, huh? Not interested. I'm not using my gifts from God to punch people. Waste," Sabian declared smugly in a nod of approval to himself.
Ignoring the man's self-pretentious statement, Fu pivoted. "Who said anything about it being limited to your fists?" Fu stated, lunging into mid-air, extending his legs out towards Sabian's solar plexus. The shockwave's impact caused the kid to lose consciousness momentarily.
Absolutely enamored with the force generated from Fu's feet, Sabian became obsessed with the methodology. As such, Fu began to teach Sabian over the course of the next year or so.
"You're still thinking too much about becoming powerful! Hasshoken is a dance. It's an art form. Think of it as a brush against one of those canvases of yours," Fu instructed.
"A dance? Bi-ha-lalala! I got two left feet, and both of them belong on the floor! Flat-footed," Sabian commented.
"You're laughing, but one day, you'll encounter many people on these seas way more hungry for power than just a simple plot for it. They'll do anything they need to survive. In my experience, that's when you'll need this dance of ours the most!" Fu warned.
"Alright, alright. Too much talking! I'll listen! What's the most important thing to remember?"
"Fufu. Of course. Concentration," Fu concluded.
Taking a deep breath and adjusting his stance slightly, Sabian began to shuffle towards Jacq in a smooth and free form manner.
Swinging his claws at Sabian in a flurry, the man would make his body as limp as possible, deflecting the man's strikes with kicks of his own, the shockwaves generated this time becoming stronger and stronger with each exchange.
"Hasshoashi - Brush Stroke - Color - Bloodlust!" Fabian murmured to himself before spinning into a pirouette. e red aura covered his feet momentarily, compared to the bright red velvet Sabian uses in his paintings.
A single strike to the mid-section and a final brush to the jaw rendered Jacq speechless, in a quite literal sense. As fast as Jacq's strikes became, Sabian's concentration gave him the upper hand, along with his sly moves on the battlefield.
With nothing left in the tank, Sweetwater dashed forward in an instant, breaking the man's fall.
Smirking, "You're something else. You've got me breaking character in public! Men! Their boss has fallen! You know the drill! Round them up!" The pretty-boy Marine commanded.

ASSESSMENT SUMMARY
- Sabian McQueen:
I would say basing this entire plot around the NRA bombing was a mistake. It led to several overarching plot holes and weak lore decisions. Had you mentioned how focused you would be on that event in your quest description, I might've declined the quest request—at least until the world event was done.
Alternatively, I would be more lenient regarding this aspect if you had consulted me at all about this incident after I told you to keep it in mind when I approved the quest request. If you had, I might've warned you it's downright nonsensical for someone supposedly affiliated with the NRA (even if only in name) to use the destroyed World Government Embassy as their base so soon after the bombing.
Not to mention how hard it was to digest Marines cooperating with the NRA when the NRA had been publicly accused by their regime of mass murdering a bunch of people. It might've been a slightly easier pill to swallow if you'd properly built up Sweetwater's motivations and his struggle to keep this cooperation covert (or shown the challenges he faced shoring up support from his superiors). Especially since there's a literal task force in the region who have been on high alert for NRA supporters and collaborators since the bombing.
Lastly, discounting all of these issues, the buildup of conflict with Jacq was a miss as well. Jacq kept getting built up as an antagonist in the most generic ways through weak dialogue and the mention of vague dubious acts he'd supposedly committed with no real storytelling weight behind it. Even the kidnapping of Kathy that prompted Sabian into action so quickly felt unimpactful. And his actual appearance sadly did not redeem the lacklustre setup. And the abrupt ending to the episode was the bitter cherry on top.
All in all, this quest took me so long to grade because it was especially frustrating for me to read through. In the end, I ended up avoiding trying to mark up most of the quest because the technical issues with it sadly repeat from quests I've graded from both of you before.Category Scores

- Noah Lacroix:
You sometimes spend a lot of words narrating emotional reactions to inconsequential things, which ends up diluting the moments where it's really needed. Generally, it's more important to keep the plot and dialogue moving and focus on the emotions of your character when the stakes are higher. Which brings me to an important point.
I think you may want to consider asking Sabian to share the plot with you a bit more next time. Noah felt like a passenger for a large part of the quest with not too much input in the direction of the story. For this to work well, you'd need to improve your character writing a lot more. At its current level, it isn't enough to carry you through a quest by itself. Having a deeper contribution to the plot could help offset the quality hit due to weaker character writing.Category Scores
