As such, the Oni can patiently spend hours at a desk reading through different materials, as well as find joy in exploring old and abandoned ruins. Especially in the latter case, he can display almost childlike enthusiasm.
While Naoki would describe himself as an intelligent person, thinking he could understand what other’s true intentions might be, he is an easily excitable individual. If he is confronted with another charismatic person who talks passionately about a topic Naoki is at least mildly interested in, the Oni can easily be excited about that topic or convinced to do something he might not usually agree to or with.
When it comes to conversation, he prefers to say what is on his mind directly instead of sugarcoating it to spare someone’s feelings. Of course, this can easily rub some people the wrong way, but luckily for him, he can easily find enjoyment in these quarrels too- especially if after the dispute a drink is shared. Drinking would also be a passion of his, barely affecting him negatively. However, a sure way to enrage the Oni would be racism; racism in general but especially racism against Oni. As an Oni, trying to enter human society was frequently answered with hatred, which made the Oni ultimately prone to resorting to violence.

Even though Naoki was born on Mystoria Island, his family spent a lot of time in Wano Country before his birth. As such, when he was born as the youngest of four children, Naoki’s parents kept their naming traditions alive, which would explain his Wano-styled name. While his parents still reminisced about their time in Wano, they ultimately moved to Mystoria so that their children could grow up with less persecution.
Before having children, both managed to make a name for themselves as hired swords. This allowed them ultimately when they moved to Mystoria to find employment as guards, though his mother ended up mostly looking after the children. Given their profession, they taught their children how to fend for themselves and combat techniques as soon as they were old enough.
When growing up, Naoki was no exception to the training too and developed a similar talent as his older siblings, though ultimately not enjoying it as much as they did. In contrast to them, he developed a bigger interest in the written word and as such was frequently picked on by his older siblings, though given his age he was also an easier target. The older he got, the more they lost interest.
Meanwhile, all the stories he heard about the world which subordinates from Loha brought onto the island were devoured by Naoki. The more he learned about the world, the more he wished to see it with his own two eyes. Many of the phantasmal tribes were no oddity to Naoki- thanks to Loha’s presence, he saw many of the races others regarded as a myth. For him, the biggest oddity among humanoids where probably humans themselves, as it took him quite some time until he saw his first one.
However, all the stories he heard quickly were not enough to quench his thirst for more. He wished to learn how Oni came into being, while simultaneously wishing to uncover the mysteries of the Blank Era. Keeping something a secret made sure that Naoki’s interest was piqued in the first place- and history’s biggest secret naturally was no exception.
As he got older, he tried to learn as much as possible about what Mystoria had to offer but soon realized that he was unable to find all the answers he wished for. As such, shortly after turning of age, he decided to leave his homeland and search the world for the answers he desired. As he was still relatively wet behind the ears, Naoki learnt the hard way how his endeavour might be harder to achieve than he dreamed of.
The more he tried to enter human society, the more distrust he experienced. While he could understand it to a certain extent, as he was much more imposing physically than the average human was, it sooner or later made him livid. Answering hatred with violence might not have been the best way in an attempt to understand the other side, but it sure helped Naoki in those moments.
