Resting over her neck is a large red beaded necklace. On her right upper arm, she has a tattoo of the letters A N N E which have no real meaning(she got it randomly at one time when she was drunk off her ass). Atop her head, she wears a wide brimmed orange hat with the same big red beads wrapped around and just above the brim with two bigger blue beads that seem to have a face design carved into each one. Hanging from the hat is a leather string which is connected to a skull decoration that sits in between Mari's cleavage. On Mari's right wrist, she wears a log pose in the form of a bracelet for navigating the seas.

Mari is a woman who is known for her "fiery" passion and attitude. She is not afraid to speak her mind regardless of whether saying exactly what she's thinking could get her into trouble or not. On that note, Mari tends to always find herself in troublesome situation even when she doesn't go seeking it out. Due to her blunt way of speaking her mind, Mari is often viewed by others as being; rude and sometimes even harsh. Most of the time, Mari is quite high energy and all around fun to hang out with. She's incredibly friendly but tries her best to be cautious, even though at times, she'll forget to do that. Mari is quite the temperamental person, this means she is very easy to anger. Even one wrong word, and you'll have incurred the demon's wrath. Mari is usually very frightening when angered, most of the time when she is made mad, some are able to see an image of a frightening demon appear behind her which is thought to be a manifestation of Mari's anger.
Mari is one who enjoys having a good time. Whether it be having a sparing match with a well matched or stronger opponent, or having a drink at a tavern with a friend, or just getting to travel to new places. Being a navigator, one of Mari's favorite activities is reading log books and charting up new maps of areas she's never been to before. It's Mari's favorite way to relax her mind.

When it comes to her crew, being that they are younger than her, she likes to be like their big sister and keep them in line. Especially her captain who tends to be more troublesome than her. Mari is definitely not one to hold back on her bluntness when around friends or those she isn't acquainted with too well. However, when it comes to being around her crew, she wouldn't put it past herself to hit one of them on the head to get them to behave themselves, even if that crew mate is her captain.
Mari is the type who can't stand to see people bully those who are weaker than them. She won't hesitate to step in to help someone if they can't seem to stand up for themselves. However, she doesn't try to save them, she only steps in to help them see that even though they may feel they're too weak to fight back and win, if they don't like how they're being treated, then whether or not that person is strong or weak, they need to fight back and show that they won't be pushed around. Once Mari sees them stand up and fight back, she'll just simply walk away without a word.
Mari was taught to always respect her elders, so when she sees people being disrespectful to those who are older than them(this includes herself as well) she won't hesitate to give disrespectful brats a good smack upside their head for it.

Mari born on Dawn Island in the East Blue, had been raised on her Father's ship since the tender age of three. When she was born, her mother died right after giving birth to Mari, as a result, Her father took her out to sea on her third birthday to live a life at sea. Incidentally, Mari's father, Mako Kuribayashi, was actually a pirate. He'd left his crew behind with someone he trusted in charge once he met Mari's mother, Karen. Now, that his wife had passed away, there was nothing stopping him from taking to the seas with his crew once again. Only this time, his crew would be gaining one new mate. Despite being so young, Mari was taught certain tasks to help the crew out. The one main task she was taught, was navigation and map drawing.
By the age of five, Mari had learned how to read most maps and had gotten quite a bit better at drawing them under the guidance of the crew's navigator, Louie. She grew to like map reading and drawing because of this. Mari's Father's crew, the Silver Hyrda Pirates, we're not your typical treasure plundering pirates. They were more like Robin Hood pirates, stealing from the rich and privileged to give to the poor. However, because they still plundered and stole, they were wanted by the world government.
During their travels across the four blues, the crew picked up a devil fruit they found on an island somewhere in the south blue. This happened when Mari was about nine. The crew had stopped into a tavern somewhere in the North Blue that was known to openly serve pirates. The crew brought the devil fruit with them. Young Mari hadn't seen it up close since they picked it up. She stared at it for a good 3 minutes with abundant curiosity. When her father went looking for where she'd ran off to, he found her EATING the devil fruit. Naturally, her father freaked out and explained just what she had done. Next thing they knew, Mari's arm literally catch on fire, or so Mari thought. When in reality, her arm had turned into fire. Mari started to freak which her dad manged to calm her down fairly quickly.
Now, Mari had been stuck with the powers of the devil fruit for a few years. Her father along with other crew mates trained her to fight using her newly found powers. She was no longer a little girl, but a fourteen year old teenager. Her body had began to mature and she was now getting taller and had a slight figure. She started gaining attention from the young new crew member recruits. Which was usually met with her father giving them all the evil eye of they ever even gawked at Mari.
At age 19, she decided to split off from her father and his crew to find her own goals and dreams. She had been given a smaller version of the crew's ship with no Jolly Roger on it in order to keep herself safe from marines and about a year's worth of supplies to survive. From there, she set off on her own.
