- Arc IWhere do we start? I guess I should start with the fact that Xavier Drake isn't my actual name. Zabieru Kumade is my real name. I was born in Wano Country. Ringo to be specific. Youngest child of Kare Kumade and Kanojo Kumade. The baby to be exact—my older sister and brother both being nine and seven years older than me. I'm honestly pretty sure my parents never had plans to have a third child. But I know better than anyone that, you know, shit happens.
Humble
My family was... unremarkable to say the least. My father a shipwright and my mother an archaeologist. And no, by shipwright and archaeologist, I don't mean my father built a ship for a Yonko or my mother can read archaeologist. I mean run of the mill folks just trying to make ends meet doing a hard day's work. They worked hard to ensure my siblings and I grew up in a stable home. One family, one house, no outside kids, no drama. We weren't wealthy, but we never went without, y'know?
In retrospect, I would do anything for such a normal life—well except the working everyday part. But, yea, back then, I, didn't like it. Actually, scratch that, I hated it. Hated to the point I hated my parents for being so normal. So boring.. I wanted thrill, I wanted adventure, I wanted... more. So, by time I was eight, I started looking for it. I started hanging around the Flower Capital so much I practically lived there. I was pretty much in a fight every other day at that point. I was eight, so got my ass kicked most of the time by guys twice my age and size, but even in defeat, I felt excitement. Adrenaline.
One day one of my friends, Obba, who led the gang I use to role with decided he wanted to make a statement. A big one. There is an unspoken rule in Wano: you don't mess with the yakuza. Most people from Wano would rather take their chances with the other Yonko outside of Wano, before they so much as get on the bad side of anyone within the yakuza.
Stealing from one of their warehouses and busting a few heads in the process was how Obba wanted to do it. The entire thing went well. Nobody knew who did it, but for three days it was the biggest news in the capital that somebody was looking to start a war with the yakuza. We felt like we were the hot shit.
Then on the third night, the yakuza made their statement. And when the yakuza makes a statement, they make a statement. They had no idea who actually did it, so... they hit everybody. Even the gangs who were affiliated with them. In one night, the yakuza had wiped out every gang in Wano and then had them replaced within the next day.
That night I knew fear. I had fought my hardest against the yakuza's men, but it was useless. I thought for sure I would die...

- Arc IIMr. Yamaguchi.
Dragon
One of the yakuza's heads had been the one who that night decided to take mercy on me. He saw something in me. As cliche as it sounded, he said I remind him a lot of himself when he was my age. He made me an offer... I'm sure you can guess what that offer was by now. When the yakuza makes you an offer, you don't refuse, although of course I had no plans to refuse regardless.
He took me under his wing. Taught me the ropes. Taught me everything I know—key word there, everything I know, not everything he knows. Taught me how to fight—properly that is—how to be a Samurai, how to lead, who was who, how to work around everyone and everything within Wano. To him, I was like a son and he made it official after a year when he authorized for me to be branded with his clan's signature dragon tattoo. The rest of the family didn't approve, especially his sons and daughters who felt like I was being groomed to take their birthright as the possible feature kumichō.
All except for one...
Ain Yamaguchi...
Ain is... the devil and my best friend. Even back then, she was infuriating, spoiled, infuriating, entitled, infuriating, stubborn, bitchy, infuriating. But, from day one we were kindred spirits. We both had a weird way of showing it, but we always looked out for each other and she took for me against the rest of the family. While we intended to keep things between us a secret out of fear how her father may take the news, in reality, he already knew. Should have known better than to think we could keep anything a secret from one of the most powerful men in Wano.
Everything in my life couldn't be better.
But as the days went by, my passion waned and so did my spirit. Felt like I was going through a mid-life crisis when I was barely even sixteen. Got to the point where one day I just up and ended my relationship with Ain. That's when she decided to bring up that she neglected to mention her father's true intentions. Apparently, I wasn't the first young kid with "potential" Mr. Yamaguchi had taken under his wing. Once they achieve their full potential however, he would use his devil fruit to steal their ambition.
Yea, quite a twist huh? Imagine how you would feel knowing your girlfriend was comfortable letting her dad basically taking your will to live so long as things were good between you and her. In retrospect, I guess it was difficult for her to go against her father like that.
I'm sure you can guess what I did next. I confronted Mr. Yamaguchi about the whole thing. I'm sure you can imagine that didn't go well...
- Arc III:
- Arc IIIMr. Yamaguchi admitted to the whole thing and then showed his true colors. Turns out the guy was crazy and been doing this shit for years going as far as using his own children. No amount of samurai training was about to allow me to beat one of the heads of the yakuza, so you can imagine I got my ass kicked.
Jaded
Ain, like she usually does, saved my ass though. Got me out of there before her father could kill me. Mr. Yamaguchi of course wasn't about to just let me live with knwoledge of his secret though. Ain managed to keep us hidden in one of her friend's place, but we of course weren't going to be able to remain hidden from the yakuza for long. She knew as much as I did that I needed to get the hell otu of Wano and she wanted to go with me. I didn't argue it, it's pointless arguing with her once she makes up her mind. Some of her personal retainers had a boat and everything ready to go.
Only problem was... I couldn't just leave my family behind. If they couldn't get me, the yakuza was damn sure going to go after my family. The two days we had spent devising a way to get us and my family out of the country however was two days two many when dealing with the yakuza. We got the news they were dead an entire day later.
Worst part is that I didn't feel a thing. Didn't shed a tear. I couldn't.
We left Wano after that with no destination in mind. Ended up bouncing from island to island in the New World. We tried making a relationship work again, but it wasn't the same with her father having taken most of what made me... me. Even tried having a kid, but turned out even Mr. Yamaguchi's favorite daughter wasn't an exception as he had been slowly taking her ambition over the years, and that ambition had always been to have a child. He didn't take so much to completely remove her will to have, but enough that she couldn't.
We spent the last two years bouncing from island to island, managing to make it all the way to the reverse mountain with Ain's navigation skills. The ship had been too far much however and ended up getting destroyed under the force. Only one of us was going to survive the whole thing and seeing as I didn't see much purpose in living anyway, I decided it should be her...
- Arc IV:
- Arc IVUnfortunately, I survived though. When I came to I was in the worst place imagineable: a pirate ship. Look, nobody is more anti authorithy and all that than me, but I don't make the life of innocent people shit just cause I want to do whatever I want. Anyway, back on topic, they called themselves the Facile Pirates—I think it's Spanish or something. They saved me, but really it was just so that they could rob me and then toss my body back at sea anyway.
Delilah
They would have killed me for sure if not for her. Komand'r. She wasn't actually a part of the crew, but she was friends with most of the guys on the crew and was the captain's girl, so she sort of just hanged around. She vouced for me though. We were the same age, but she had always been so mature for her age.
Fromt he beginning, our romance had been... a whirlwind. Within only a few short days were both already knew how were felt about each other. It was the first time I had felt something other than boredom in over two years. The captain, Son Goken, didn't really care since he had his fun on the side and having me around kept her off his back. Basically, turned out I was just her way of getting even.
I ignored the red flags though, even when the the rest of the crew warned me about getting involved with her, telling me stories about how many of them had similarly been recruited to the crew by her the same was I was. It was why she was known as the "Pirate Maker".
Anyway, one thing led to another, and within a month, she had come to find out she was pregnant. I of course had my doubts about it being for me, but given I was the first person she had been with after her last cycle I was confident it was by me. That said, I never wanted to be a pirate to begin with, so I damn sure didn't want to raise a kid into that kind of life.
We both knew the captain wouldn't be happy about Komand'r leaving the crew, so we did things discreetly. Got off the ship at the next stop and never got back on. Captain Son took the entire thing as a slight against him though and refused to leave for days until he found us. We fought it out. Long story short, I got my ass kicked again. Perhaps feeling like we were now even that he kicked my ass, he allowed us to leave, with a warning to me about Komand'r.
Abandoning the pirate life, we worked towards starting a family in this little port town. Things were so good that we even decided to do things the proper way by getting married before our kid was born. Small ceremony, just the two of us. Everything was perfect.
Then five months in, Ain turned up at my doorsteps.
From day one the two never liked each other. And while Ain and I both agreed that the romance between us was long dead, Komand'r felt differently. Believing Ain and I had something going on, she ended up cheating to get even. I tried sticking around and working things out, but the she was actually convinced that it was my fault for driving her to that, so once my daughter was born some months later I said screw it and bailed with her.

Not together like we wanted, but so long as we got each other as best friends, the circumstances don't matter to us. He rarely loses his cool and keeps his emotions close to his chest. Noble — Xavier has a strong moral code, and so while he mostly doesn’t care much about anything, this moral code keeps him on the straight and narrow.
Negative TraitsJaded — The most defining thing about Xavier is his boredom and laziness when it comes to… everything. He sees very little purpose to most things in life and just wants a peaceful life and to see his daughter grow up. My family was... unremarkable to say the least. My father a shipwright and my mother an archaeologist. And no, by shipwright and archaeologist, I don't mean my father built a ship for a Yonko or my mother can read archaeologist. I mean run of the mill folks just trying to make ends meet doing a hard day's work. They worked hard to ensure my siblings and I grew up in a stable home. One family, one house, no outside kids, no drama. We weren't wealthy, but we never went without, y'know?
In retrospect, I would do anything for such a normal life—well except the working everyday part. But, yea, back then, I, didn't like it. Actually, scratch that, I hated it. Hated to the point I hated my parents for being so normal. So boring.. I wanted thrill, I wanted adventure, I wanted... more. So, by time I was eight, I started looking for it. I started hanging around the Flower Capital so much I practically lived there. I was pretty much in a fight every other day at that point. I was eight, so got my ass kicked most of the time by guys twice my age and size, but even in defeat, I felt excitement. Adrenaline.
One day one of my friends, Obba, who led the gang I use to role with decided he wanted to make a statement. A big one. There is an unspoken rule in Wano: you don't mess with the yakuza. Most people from Wano would rather take their chances with the other Yonko outside of Wano, before they so much as get on the bad side of anyone within the yakuza.
Stealing from one of their warehouses and busting a few heads in the process was how Obba wanted to do it. The entire thing went well. Nobody knew who did it, but for three days it was the biggest news in the capital that somebody was looking to start a war with the yakuza. We felt like we were the hot shit.
Then on the third night, the yakuza made their statement. And when the yakuza makes a statement, they make a statement. They had no idea who actually did it, so... they hit everybody. Even the gangs who were affiliated with them. In one night, the yakuza had wiped out every gang in Wano and then had them replaced within the next day.
That night I knew fear. I had fought my hardest against the yakuza's men, but it was useless. I thought for sure I would die...
- Arc II:
Dragon
One of the yakuza's heads had been the one who that night decided to take mercy on me. He saw something in me. As cliche as it sounded, he said I remind him a lot of himself when he was my age. He made me an offer... I'm sure you can guess what that offer was by now. When the yakuza makes you an offer, you don't refuse, although of course I had no plans to refuse regardless.
He took me under his wing. Taught me the ropes. Taught me everything I know—key word there, everything I know, not everything he knows. Taught me how to fight—properly that is—how to be a Samurai, how to lead, who was who, how to work around everyone and everything within Wano. To him, I was like a son and he made it official after a year when he authorized for me to be branded with his clan's signature dragon tattoo. The rest of the family didn't approve, especially his sons and daughters who felt like I was being groomed to take their birthright as the possible feature kumichō.
All except for one...
Ain Yamaguchi...
Ain is... the devil and my best friend. Even back then, she was infuriating, spoiled, infuriating, entitled, infuriating, stubborn, bitchy, infuriating. But, from day one we were kindred spirits. We both had a weird way of showing it, but we always looked out for each other and she took for me against the rest of the family. While we intended to keep things between us a secret out of fear how her father may take the news, in reality, he already knew. Should have known better than to think we could keep anything a secret from one of the most powerful men in Wano.
Everything in my life couldn't be better.
But as the days went by, my passion waned and so did my spirit. Felt like I was going through a mid-life crisis when I was barely even sixteen. Got to the point where one day I just up and ended my relationship with Ain. That's when she decided to bring up that she neglected to mention her father's true intentions. Apparently, I wasn't the first young kid with "potential" Mr. Yamaguchi had taken under his wing. Once they achieve their full potential however, he would use his devil fruit to steal their ambition.
Yea, quite a twist huh? Imagine how you would feel knowing your girlfriend was comfortable letting her dad basically taking your will to live so long as things were good between you and her. In retrospect, I guess it was difficult for her to go against her father like that.
I'm sure you can guess what I did next. I confronted Mr. Yamaguchi about the whole thing. I'm sure you can imagine that didn't go well...

Jaded
Ain, like she usually does, saved my ass though. Got me out of there before her father could kill me. Mr. Yamaguchi of course wasn't about to just let me live with knwoledge of his secret though. Ain managed to keep us hidden in one of her friend's place, but we of course weren't going to be able to remain hidden from the yakuza for long. She knew as much as I did that I needed to get the hell otu of Wano and she wanted to go with me. I didn't argue it, it's pointless arguing with her once she makes up her mind. Some of her personal retainers had a boat and everything ready to go.
Only problem was... I couldn't just leave my family behind. If they couldn't get me, the yakuza was damn sure going to go after my family. The two days we had spent devising a way to get us and my family out of the country however was two days two many when dealing with the yakuza. We got the news they were dead an entire day later.
Worst part is that I didn't feel a thing. Didn't shed a tear. I couldn't.
We left Wano after that with no destination in mind. Ended up bouncing from island to island in the New World. We tried making a relationship work again, but it wasn't the same with her father having taken most of what made me... me. Even tried having a kid, but turned out even Mr. Yamaguchi's favorite daughter wasn't an exception as he had been slowly taking her ambition over the years, and that ambition had always been to have a child. He didn't take so much to completely remove her will to have, but enough that she couldn't.
We spent the last two years bouncing from island to island, managing to make it all the way to the reverse mountain with Ain's navigation skills. The ship had been too far much however and ended up getting destroyed under the force. Only one of us was going to survive the whole thing and seeing as I didn't see much purpose in living anyway, I decided it should be her...

They would have killed me for sure if not for her. Komand'r. She wasn't actually a part of the crew, but she was friends with most of the guys on the crew and was the captain's girl, so she sort of just hanged around. She vouced for me though. We were the same age, but she had always been so mature for her age.
Fromt he beginning, our romance had been... a whirlwind. Within only a few short days were both already knew how were felt about each other. It was the first time I had felt something other than boredom in over two years. The captain, Son Goken, didn't really care since he had his fun on the side and having me around kept her off his back. Basically, turned out I was just her way of getting even.
I ignored the red flags though, even when the the rest of the crew warned me about getting involved with her, telling me stories about how many of them had similarly been recruited to the crew by her the same was I was. It was why she was known as the "Pirate Maker".
Anyway, one thing led to another, and within a month, she had come to find out she was pregnant. I of course had my doubts about it being for me, but given I was the first person she had been with after her last cycle I was confident it was by me. That said, I never wanted to be a pirate to begin with, so I damn sure didn't want to raise a kid into that kind of life.
We both knew the captain wouldn't be happy about Komand'r leaving the crew, so we did things discreetly. Got off the ship at the next stop and never got back on. Captain Son took the entire thing as a slight against him though and refused to leave for days until he found us. We fought it out. Long story short, I got my ass kicked again. Perhaps feeling like we were now even that he kicked my ass, he allowed us to leave, with a warning to me about Komand'r.
Abandoning the pirate life, we worked towards starting a family in this little port town. Things were so good that we even decided to do things the proper way by getting married before our kid was born. Small ceremony, just the two of us. Everything was perfect.
Then five months in, Ain turned up at my doorsteps.
From day one the two never liked each other. And while Ain and I both agreed that the romance between us was long dead, Komand'r felt differently. Believing Ain and I had something going on, she ended up cheating to get even. I tried sticking around and working things out, but the she was actually convinced that it was my fault for driving her to that, so once my daughter was born some months later I said screw it and bailed with her.
