San Faldo... The Carnival City that rarely slept was a popular destination for honest and less so travelers alike. From the docks to the heart of the city, the colorful river of people flowed endlessly. Here among the flashy lights and lively citizens pretty much anyone could blend in without being judged. Or chased... Of course, even in here not all was glitter and glamour. Every shiny coin had a flip-side after all...

On the seedier side of the city, a lonely bar sat alone between far more respectable establishments. The drowned rat, it was aptly named. Inside, the air was thick with cigarette smoke and lingering suspicions. Everyone who stepped in was met with the beady, black glare of the withered, old bartender who endlessly polished a mug between his skeletal fingers. Chairs were a rare luxury, tables even more so. Yet the place was packed with burly and surly patrons, drinking away their worries with the cheapest ale in the city. And to truly set the depressing mood, in the corner some aspiring musician was abusing the worn-down keys of an off-tune piano. A lovely place, wouldn’t you agree?

At a round table right next to the exit sat a fellow who seemed a little too sharp-dressed for the sleazy drinking hole. Yet Richard Maxwell felt right at home. This place was filled with opportunity, you see, people who didn’t let little things like morality get in the way of business. Lately he had been spending far too much time around honest folk. And what had had he gotten for his troubles? A huge mess involving a bunch of Cipher Pol agents, two Revolutionaries and even one of the Yonkou of all things. Needless to say, he had left Alabasta in quite a hurry...

Richard shuddered at the thought and took a sip of his beer. The taste was terrible, yes, but he wouldn’t argue with the prices here. Not to mention his other bar trip hadn’t exactly gone so smoothly. There had been... an encounter... with a strange masked fellow a couple days back. That... had been a thing. Maybe. The rat wasn’t quite sure if it had been anything, but perhaps it had been something.

The crook pushed the thoughts aside when he spotted someone shoving their way through the crowd. He rose up, donning a sharp smile. "Ah, gentlemen, good to see y-" His polite greeting was cut short, however, by a large hand oh so amiably gripping his shoulder and helping him back into his seat. "Shut it, rat." Four thugs surrounded the doctor. Their apparent leader, a man built like a pile of bricks, yanked a chair for himself from someone else. The poor seat whined beneath his generous girth. With a mighty heave, he slammed a thick jute sack onto the table. "We got the goods. Let’s deal." Such a jolly and eloquent fellow indeed.

"Sir!" Chuck instantly woke up to the sound of a marine, he was having a nice dream about... something, he couldn't really remember. He fell asleep on the deck of his warship, he got his bearings together properly, before standing up he quickly realized his mask fell off while he was taking a nap. He quickly put it back on and stood up tall to the Marine that called him, Chuck looked at him seriously saying "... Did you see my face?" the marine said "No sir! I respect your reasons for not sharing your face! I swear, I didn't!" Chuck saw that his marine was indeed careful about not seeing Chuck's face, he believed him.

"Calm down, I appreciate the effort. You're not in trouble or anything." the marine takes a sigh of relief. "So, why did you wake me up anyway? something bad happened?" Chuck said, "No sir! you've been sleeping for quite a while, I thought I'd wake you up." Chuck started to walk around the warship, investigating sections and seeing the marines at work, nothing really out of the ordinary. He walked back up to the marine who woke him up. "Nothing's really happening, I don't know why you woke me up... oh well, I still feel drowsy, I'm going to walk it off." Chuck walks to the edge of the warship, about to jump off onto the deck until the marine tries to stop him "Wait sir! shouldn't you be give an escort? who will manage things whil-" Chuck interrupts him "No need! I'm sure you guys will figure it out, good luck!" and off went Chuck.

Chuck landed safely on the docks of San Faldo, before he walked into the town he checked what he was wearing, he only just noticed that he still had his black suit, bladed boots and black claws on. "Huh, the tired version of me didn't bother to take off my weapons, I must've been really tired, what happened to my justice coat though..." Oh well, he had his equipment on regardless, if Chuck were to find any serious trouble on the way at least he was prepared for it. With that out of the way, Chuck finally walked into the town of San Faldo, seeing it with a lively marketplace and population. As he walked by some people waved at Chuck and gave him their greetings, while others gave a suspicious look at Chuck. "Hmm... I'm already bored of this walk, I'll see if I can find a bar or something, I feel like having a drink." and thus, he started walking around the town in search of one.

There was a time and place for politeness, but apparently this wasn’t it. So, deciding to skip the pleasantries, Richard instead shifted his focus onto the suspicious sack. He opened it ever so slightly, careful of curious eyes. Luckily the goons surrounding him also kept the bar patrons in check. Good. Because these things were not for the bystanders to see… Faint chimes of glass escaped from the sack, the distinct sound of small bottles sliding against each other. A crescent grin shined on the criminal’s features. Yes, this was precisely what he needed… Just a little hard to find these days, on the account of being extremely illegal and all.

After quickly pretending to pat through his pockets, and again for good measure, the dishonest doctor shook his head with an embarrassed chuckle. "Ah hah haa, how unfortunate… It seems I have forgotten my wallet. Must be in the pocket of my other coat. Heh, I swear I’d forget my head if it wasn’t attached to my shoulders." Evidently that didn’t stop him from reaching his greedy fingers into the sack and continuing to stuff his suitcase full of the dubious loot. He wasn’t even being subtle about it at this point. "But I promise I’ll pay you back double tomorrow. How about it?" If the offer sounded too good to be true, well...

Naturally, the leader of the rough gang was having none of it. Slamming his hands onto the table, he lunged forward, spewing rage and spittle. "Bullshit! Listen, rat… You got five seconds to start coughing up cash or your head won’t be on your shoulders for long, got it?" To emphasize the deathly seriousness of the demand, he pulled out an outright massive cutlass, large and sharp enough to slice a man in two. Richard glanced at his quivering reflection on the surface of the shining blade and swallowed a big clump of fear. "Ulp, eh… heh heh… look, friends, I would love to pay you, b-but..." Wrong answer.

The burly man started actually counting the seconds with threatening swings that brushed far too close for the crook’s liking. "Five… four… three..." The sharp-dressed criminal yanked his hands back before his fingers faced a sharp accident. "He-hey now. L-let’s not be hasty here." His attempt to squirm away was stopped by the two goons flanking him. Well, this was a little problematic, wasn’t it? All the while the swinging blade got closer and closer.

"Two… One…"

Chuck started to walk around the part of town that had a lot of respectable establishments and business-looking men walking about, but one place caught his eye from the others. When he saw the sign of the place it was called "The Drowned Rat" he could tell from a second glance that the place looked suspicious, a bit shady if anything. But it was a bar which is what Chuck was looking for, so he thought why not? even if it is shady it looks decent enough.

He walked in the bar to see a lot of people staring at Chuck, some went back onto their business but a few kept their eye on Chuck. It looks like some of them may know who Chuck is, regardless he was in the bar for a drink and that's what he's planning to do, walking across the bar to get to the bartender people look at him as he walks by them, looking like they're expecting trouble from Chuck. He finally gets to the bartender who's tending to the drinks, before Chuck asks for anything the bartender says "It's not a good idea for you to be here, Black Claw." Chuck was surprised at the old man knowing about Chuck. "What? how do yo-" "Shut it, when a marine warship is docked on the island. it's my business to know if there's any big shots around. Just imagine that... a Rear-Admiral visiting my bar. I'll give one drink but you better haul ass quick."

The bartender follows his word and gives Chuck a bottle, but as Chuck starts drinking away a man starts to slowly walk up to Chuck. Chuck noticed this and took a look at the man, preparing his fists if anything is about to break out. The man yells out "A Marine! I think I know this guy, it's Chu-" before he said anymore, Chuck quickly splits his hand and launches it against the man, performing a Bara-Bara Punch knocking him back before he actually said anything serious. But it wasn't fast enough, now the whole bar is looking at Chuck, it seems Chuck caught the attention of one particular person, a tall, built man steps out of the crowd along with a couple of thugs, the tall man seems to wield a massive cutlass. Chuck quickly attaches back his hand that he used for Bara-Bara Punch.

The tall man points his sword at Chuck, "A marine? no, no... we can't have that, can we boys?" his thugs cheer in agreement, then going back to his point. "So... judging by that flying hand and those pretty claws you have I'm assuming you're a marine officer or something? maybe a big shot with devil fruit powers? either way, you're not getting out of here alive." and he starts charging at Chuck. "Well... I was hoping to avoid something like this, but I guess I got no choice."

For a heartbeat, all motion stopped. Someone had just dropped the second worst possible word one could utter in a place like this... A marine. Even the dishonest doctor flinched, silently cursing his luck. Out of all the possible adventures, bounty hunters and general do-gooders, it just had to be one of the Navy to march in here today. And judging by the sounds of it, it wasn’t any random small fry either. Well, this situation had taken a turn from bad to dreadful. Lovely. However, there was a silver lining. It was no exaggeration to say that all the hateful glares turned towards the masked stranger. Thus, for the time being, very few paid any attention to the older fellow.

Speaking of silver linings, the massive blade found a new target. And not a swing too early. All four of the goons turned their attention to the troublesome stranger. It seemed they were under the impression that the graying and scrawny gentleman wouldn’t try anything... underhanded. Hm, their mistake. The doctor was, as usual, listening closely. Never knew what interesting tidbits one could catch from here and there. However, he tugged the brim of his hat lower and kept himself to the shadows, as inconspicuous as possible really. Very few had seen his face, considering how lucky he had gotten with his bounty poster, but being careful never hurt.

While the people, ahem, discussed... Richard shamelessly took advantage of the little distraction. He could get what he came for and still keep his backup plan under wraps. Win-win, as they said. With uncanny swiftness and methodical motions, he emptied the last contents of the sack into his trusty suitcase. As far as the greedy opportunist was concerned, it wasn’t really stealing if the loot was once stolen already. At least that’s what he told to the law enforcement and the like. They rarely agreed. By the time one of the distracted goons noticed their deal getting nicked, it was far too late. With a sly click, the suitcase was snapped shut and snatched away.

Only when the criminal tried to slip away, two of the four goons managed to grab him by the shoulders. For seemingly simple thugs, they put the two and two together quite quickly. "Hey! The rat’s trying to run with our treasure!" And there it was... The absolute worst possible word to yell in the presence of greedy pirates. Treasure? Treasure! The ugly echo repeated the word. In an instant, the whole bar went crazy. Pushing, shoving, punching and kicking... Chairs went flying and tables were flipped over. There was no method of violence people didn’t resort to in a mad attempt to find out who had something, anything, worth stealing.

"Shit..." Nathaniel said aloud to no-one in particular as the chaos unfolded behind him. He'd simply had enough for one day.

After having come all the way to San Faldo to follow up a lead on his Father, Nathaniel's search had, once again, proven to have no results. He was fed up and simply wanted to drown his sorrows away in the nearest Boozer he could find, of which just had to be this place.

Nathaniel span round in his bar stool to look at the commotion behind him (and, more importantly, in order to hide his face from the guy with the mask that had been called a Marine).

He sat in his stool, with his dirt cheap ale in one gloved hand and one of his multiple packs of playing cards in the other, simply watching as all of these burly men seemed to surround a tall bloke holding some kind of briefcase that he assumed was the 'treasure' one of the Gorillas was on about. All of a sudden, he felt a tap on his shoulder from behind. Nathaniel once again span around to see that the Bartender was staring at him, a nervous sweat streaming down the side of his face.

"Please!", he said desperately, "They're gonna wreck my bar at this rate! Can't you do something?!" The way he looked at and spoke to Nathaniel made it clear that he knew who Nathaniel was...

Nathaniel looked up towards the ceiling, sighed, downed the last of his ale and then stood up. Slowly, he lowered his head to look at the Bartender once again, a smile now spreading across his face.

"Let's get this show on the road!"

As quick as a flash, Nathaniel spun round on the spot and threw a playing card at the single low-hanging light that barely managed to illuminate the place. The card sliced through the glass bulb and therefore submerged 'The Drowing Rat' in darkness...

Chuck got fully slashed in half by the charging man with the large cutlass. Chuck easily put himself back together thanks to the powers of his Chop fruit, the large man commented on this saying "Huh, so you are a devil fruit user. No matter, I've killed a few of you bastards before." the man then covered his sword in a black type of metal which indicates that it's busoshoku haki. "Oh god, that ain't good." but before the guy tried to slash Chuck a second time, the light suddenly went out for the entire establishment. Chuck took a step back so he wouldn't get hit by the cutlass if the guy were to start swinging around randomly.

"Alright... total darkness? I can deal with that." Chuck then activated his kenbunshoku haki, which allowed him to sense the presence of other people in the establishment, especially the man who just tried to slash Chuck who appears to be slashing around everywhere as Chuck predicted. It seems the man can use busoshoku haki but not kenbunshoku haki, even if by chance he did Chuck was going to take the opportunity to attack him. Chuck splits both of his arms and launches them at the man from the back, piercing him with all the claws, using Bara-Bara Black Piercer he could hear the man yell in pain, then Chuck rushed to him as close as possible, bringing back his splitted arms and re-connecting them then splitting his upper half body.

His upper half body flew right behind the tall opponent and grabbed onto him, then flying him straight through the roof of the bar. Then dropping him and the flying upper half body soon followed after, chasing him down then stabbing him with all claws once more in full force into the ground, a massive bang can be heard in the bar from the impact, performing Bara-Bara Black Impaler Chuck then re-connected himself with all his limbs and a light can be seen from the roof due to Chuck's move. Chuck walks over to the man who can barely just get up from the impact of Chuck's move. Chuck then crouched down near the man, "Well... I gotta thank whoever took out that light, it actually worked to my advantage. I don't think I could've taken you one on one fairly big guy." the man looks up to Chuck, "Screw... you..." then passing out. "Well, looks like my work here is done. That was unnecessarily brutal now that I think about it, but time to get out of here." and Chuck starts walking to the entrance of the bar to leave.

Nathaniel's original plan was to use the darkness to move to the other side of the room to the nearest window in order to utilize the only source of light the bar had left, but when that buffoon burst through the ceiling, he actually made Nathaniel's life ten times easier.

Nathaniel walked towards the light that shone through into the Drowned Rat. On the way, he noticed the guy with the mask walking towards him, but he didn't seem to be acting hostile - it simply looked like he was waltzing towards the front door. Nathaniel tipped his Top Hat down as they passed one another in order to cover his face.

"Thanks for the Spotlight." Nathaniel said to him with a grin, "A performer always does his best work there..."

Nathaniel made his way into the sunlight and stood still for a moment.

"Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen!" He said as he took off his Top Hat and bowed. "You're all very lucky indeed! You see, usually, this type of show would cost a fair amount, but today, I plan to give you this performance for free..." Nathaniel stood up tall, donned his Top Hat on again and took a deep breath.

"Metamorphosis" he said softly.

As he did so, he pictured himself suddenly hunch over, a harrowing scream escaping from his lungs. He pictured his clothes rip apart and fall to the floor as his body grew, his mouth pull outwards into a snout, his shoes burst open to reveal blackened hooves, jet black hair grow from all parts of his body and a serpents tail sprout from his lower back. His new form had large clawed hands, sharp jagged teeth and beaming red eyes. He was terrifying, quite simply terrifying.

Due to the ability of his Devil Fruit, this is exactly what those within the bar saw, many of them clearly wearing the picture of pure fear on their faces. About 10 of them immediately ran out the front door, a few seemed to be glued to the spot and one simply fainted. In actuality of course, Nathaniel had simply moved back into the shadowed area of the bar, where no-one could see him. He fell into one of the seats, grabbed a nearby pint and took a sip.

He made the illusionary beast roar, imaginary saliva dripping from it's mouth. "Right then...".

The beast leaped forward into the crowd.

There were days when things would rather get worse before getting better. This was one of those. Between the patrons looking for an excuse to brawl, one in particular decided to put on a real show by the sound of it. There was a zip and a flicker. Thick shadows swallowed the room. It didn’t exactly deter the chaos, no, rather than rile it up further. But for Richard this was an advantage. His targets were so big that he didn’t need to see where to hit. He reached out to an old friend close to his heart, bit down and to the left to be specific. Two sharp shots rang out, brief flashes illuminating the silhouettes, followed by two thuds and heavy cursing.

However, the advantage was lost when someone shed some light on the situation. ...By cracking a hole on the roof. All of a sudden the dishonest doctor found himself looking a little more suspicious than he would’ve liked. Holding a literal smoking gun certainly didn’t help. Luckily, someone else stepped up to steal the spotlight. The crook took it as his cue to leave, preferably somewhere far, far away.

Without wasting a moment, Richard turned tail and made a mad dash for the exit. Exceptionally swift on his feet, he easily scurried past anyone who may have had the same idea. Shoving the door open, he dipped a hand into his pocket. Something red shined in his grasp. For once, the last drink was on him. [Maxwell’s Cocktail] To the sound of shattering glass, the main exit was blocked by a fiery explosion. Deep red liquid pooled on the ground and stained the wood, burning with intense heat. Anyone unfortunate enough to get caught in the initial blast would’ve found that it stuck to skin the same way. Quickly the hungry flames spread onto the walls as well, filling the bar with black smoke.

Turns out, the bartender had been horribly right all along...

In the meantime, the rat kept running. His escape route took him to the busy streets, slipping through the shrieking crowd. The column of smoke was drawing far too much attention. He didn’t turn to see how many realized that every bar had a backdoor as well. No doubt some people might be a little upset after surviving arson and gunshots. The sound of thundering footsteps and angry yelling behind him kind of gave that away...

(OOC Section: Sorry for late reply guys! been caught up in life a bit but here ya go!)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chuck was already walking towards the exit of the bar he came across a weirdly dressed fellow, Chuck could tell he was a cut above the average pirate but Chuck isn't looking for another fight, so he kept walking to the exit of the bar and he heard a sound, he turned around to see a horrifying monster in the spotlight that Chuck created from his fight earlier, yet with his kenbunshoku haki still activated he can't sense the beast for some reason, either way he wasn't interested in finding that out and just rushed out of the bar. Soon enough a great number of pirates were just running out of the bar and a fire started? Chuck looked back at the bar and it started to burn for some reason? damn, the bartender isn't going to be happy about that one. Among the running crowd, one curious figure stood above the rest. A man who doesn't look pleased at all.

Chuck didn't want to get into anymore trouble then needed but as he walked through the crowd, he was actually stopped by the figure and pushed back. Soon enough, the man spoke to Chuck "You... you're the marine from that bar?" Chuck nodded, the guy then unequipped his scythe. It looks like another battle was on Chuck's hands. "Well, funny thing is I heard about how a marine walked into a bar that was full of pirates. While my men were conducting a deal with the Rat but everything went to shit, the Rat got away and I was basically robbed. Why didn't you go after the Rat you stupid marine?" Chuck was confused, "Rat? what do you mean by the Rat?" the man starts laughing manically, "Oh! you don't know who he is? that's priceless... If you somehow get out of this, you'll learn later... but I don't see that happening, you injured one of my lieutenants according to my men." The man then properly stanced with this scythe at the ready. Chuck was also preparing himself until the man started to charge at great speed against Chuck, slicing through his body in just a mere few seconds and despite Chuck's body just splitting apart and not taking any actual damage, the force from this speed actually sent Chuck flying to the wall of a nearby building.

Chuck got back up as soon as he could but he received some back pain from the impact, then seeing the man gracefully preparing his scythe again. "Damn he's fast... I can't mess around." Chuck then splits his upper half and starts flying against the man with the scythe "How interesting! let's dance little marine!" and soon enough, the speed of both the scythe man and Chuck were matched, they were clashing each other at great speeds with neither one able to get a direct hit in.

As the beast struck fear into the few that remained glued to the spot in the Bar, Nathaniel thought it best to make a swift exit; but not before making sure the Bartender was pleased with his performance. Making sure to stay hidden, Nathaniel made his way into the back room where he found the Bartender stood over a suitcase filled with bundles of cash that he had been emptying hurriedly from the opened safe that sat within the wall next to him. Nathaniel casually walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder, he immediately whipped around, a terrified look in his eyes.

"Did you enjoy the show?" Nathaniel said happily. Before the Bartender could reply Nathaniel heard a collective scream coming from up front and ran back to discover the horrifying image of those that were trying to run now burning alive, along with the bar itself. Holding back the urge to throw up from what he saw, he instead deactivated Metamorphosis, turned tail and ran back to the Bartender. Of course, he had fled along with his money out the back door. Nathaniel didn't hesitate. He ran straight out into the back-alley and towards the main street.

Just as Nathaniel was about to reach the opening, an unknown object flew past his face and into the wall next to him. Almost immediately Nathaniel took cover in a doorway to the building next to the bar. Slowly, Nathaniel leant round the corner to see what was going on. Well, he certainly didn't expect to see what he saw...

A flying torso attacking a behemoth with a scythe.

Nathaniel had made some whacky illusions for his shows, but this was something even he could never had come up with. It was around this point that he realised the flying torso was that of the Marine from the Bar; he must be a Devil Fruit user of some kind. Then he took a glance at the big guy and recognised him as one of the brutes that had surrounded the scrawny man with the suitcase. Whatever it was they were fighting about, Nathaniel didn't want to get mixed up in it. He snuck round the corner and attempted to get by without getting noticed.

As Nathaniel's full intention was on the quarrel next to him, he understandably didn't notice the pair of legs stood on the pavement in front of him, and therefore walked right into them.

"Ah... This could be a problem..."

Deep chills crawled down Richard’s spine, the fear of getting caught speeding up his steps. Or maybe that was just the cold wind rolling in from the sea. He was headed for the harbor, plotting to hop onto the first boat he saw. A merchant ship, a messenger boat, even the dinghy of some crazy adventurer would do. Anything was better than this! ...However, that idea was promptly shattered the instant he saw the nearest, blue-tinted vessel at the docks. He came to a screeching halt, briefly considering his options. On a second thought... No. Not happening. A terrible idea, really. There were far better hiding places in the city.

Not wanting to run right back to the arms of his pursuers, the dishonest doctor took a quick left. His path led him through narrow alleys to another large street. Despite the steadily growing distance, the greedy goons were stubborn. Seeing as the shore was to the right, he had to swiftly pick left and flee further into the hustle and bustle. With a carefully practiced string of apologies, he slipped and scurried through the flowing crowd. Meanwhile, the angry, yelling mob behind him was far less tactful. Elbow tactics and a terrible body odor could get one pretty far apparently.

Unfortunately, half of the pursuers had somehow managed to outsmart the cowardly criminal. Or maybe they just lost track of him earlier and ran into him by chance... Whatever the case, the criminal now found himself on the receiving end of a pincer maneuver. The goons were blocking the path ahead and also closing in from behind. So he dodged to the left, through another alleyway. ...By now the scenery was starting to look oddly familiar, almost as if he was running in- Ah, but that line of thought had to wait in the face of a far more pressing matter. The rat came to a hasty stop barely before hitting a brick wall. A dead end.

...On hindsight, a map would have been a wonderful investment.

Richard swallowed anxiously and turned around to face the mob. There had to be at least a dozen of heavily winded, yet maliciously grinning pirates crammed in this narrow space. No amount of nervous fiddling could make his tie feel comfortable. "Ahem... gentlemen... I assure you this is all just a big misunderstanding..." Judging by their ominously slow advance, they disagreed. Worse yet, he could hardly hear his own thoughts over the deafening thumping of his poor heart. ...And that terrible racket on the other side of the wall. Seriously. It sounded like someone had started a small scale war over there.

Chuck was matching the scythe-man's speed until Chuck's Kenbunshoku haki wore off, he couldn't keep it for very long and now the extra speed he received from haki is now gone. "... Damn, using haki is tiring..." and the giant man with the scythe walks up to Chuck. "Well well... is that really all you got? if you're that weak, you must've been using haki to keep up with me, well, how about I exchange the favor?" and then, the scythe goes red for a split second, then turning into black metal with a gust of smoke coming out. It's clear that the man is using Busoshoku Haki and covered his weapon in it. "So, you split yourself when you're cut with any bladed weapon huh? quite an interesting fruit, but let's see you survive a direct hit of Haki." and the man swings at Chuck's torso, but he starts flying around in order to dodge the attacks but mostly just dodging his attacks. Until the man got a grip on Chuck and holding him tightly with one arm, then bringing out a unrecognizable stone with the other arm from his pocket. "I think you know what this is." Then he places it on Chuck's body, suddenly Chuck loses his strength and all his separate body parts go straight back to his legs.

Chuck is in his normal human form again, but he drops to the ground on his knees and starts breathing heavily. He looks to his right to see the strange-dressed man from earlier. "What... are... yo-" BOOM! a great amount of force from the body of the scythe-man hitting Chuck sent him through the wall of the building to the other side, he can barely get back up but when he looks up, he sees a angry mob. He can't tell what's going on, then he gets picked up by the throat by the scythe-man. "You feel that Marine? that's what justice is, you hurt one of my men... I hurt you, well, not only hurt you but I'm about to kill you." and then, the scythe-man prepares another swing of his scythe covered in Haki at a now defenseless Chuck.

"Stun Grenade!" bellowed Nathaniel as he flung a small glowing bubble towards the big guy holding the clearly worn-out marine. The Scythe-wielding giant halted his finishing blow and turned to look at Nathaniel. At first he was clearly bewildered by what it was he was saw, the so-called attack merely bobbed towards him at a steady pace; it didn't exactly look dangerous.

"What the hell was that?! You call that an attack? This puny Bubble couldn't hurt a fly! Let alone me!" He shouted, "Do you have any idea who I-",

"Sometimes I wonder why I'm so nice..." Nathaniel interrupted with a sigh, "I mean what right-minded Pirate would actually help a Marine...?"

The man with the Scythe was obviously not pleased. His face had now turned a bright shade of pink and the veins in his neck and forehead were throbbing with rage. He turned his body towards Nathaniel and was about to say something when he realised the bubble had finally reached him. It stopped in it's tracks directly in front of his face and remained still, not doing anything whatsoever.

"Oi Marine! Oh, and you guys in the alleyway too, I suggest you close your eyes..." Nathaniel said while tipping his Top Hat to cover his face.

Suddenly the bubble lit up, as if someone had turned on a lightbulb, and a blinding flash of light burst out in all directions. The giant let out a scream before dropping the Marine to cover up his face with his now free hand. He took a step back and crashed into the building next to him. Nathaniel sprung into action, after all, he didn't have long until the Brute's vision returned to him.

Lady Luck tended to have a strange sense of humor. All that effort to get away from the mess had only served to land the dishonest doctor even deeper in it. Keeping with the theme of things going from bad to worse, someone set off some sort of a... flash bomb. Even with eyes closed and the brim of his hat tugged low, it felt like the blinding burst still pushed through. He had never been the type to appreciate too much light outside of the operating room, you see. The pirate gang before him shared the sentiment, cursing and flailing violently as their vision was robbed. All in all, this situation had turned into quite the headache. Luckily, he always carried a remedy at hand...

[9mm Aspirin]

Six sudden shots -and two hollow clicks- rang out. Three closest goons flopped against the street like over-sized rag dolls. It was wonderful how imminent pain could be alleviated just by arranging some breathing room. Of course, the little dose of lead helped. Richard dropped the suitcase for a moment and hastily reloaded his trusty pistol. At the same time, the venomous eyes scanned the surroundings for a way out. And wouldn’t you know it... Granted, it was a little risky if not outright foolhardy. Fortunately, his foes were still dazed by the looks of it and admittedly he had always been bit of an opportunist...

While the pirates gathered their wits, the rat hoisted his precious suitcase and tiptoed towards a maintenance ladder. Slowly, carefully, oh so very quietly step by step he started scaling towards the rooftop. There were two reasons the excessive amounts of stealth that went into the simple maneuver. One, if all went according to the plan, these gullible goons might think he had just vanished into thin air. And two... Judging by the rough voice, the person trashing around on the street below was someone he’d rather not run into right now. Or ever. See, the large fellow was bound to be... a little upset... after a certain deal backfired on him. As if all this fighting wouldn't have him riled up enough already.

Chuck luckily got saved by the strange-man's stun grenade, Chuck did hear that the man was a pirate but the look of the man didn't ring any bells in Chuck's mind, probably too worn out from the battle he had earlier with the big scythe man to actually remember. Chuck was worn out on the ground, looking the other direction with eyes closed when the stun grenade exploded so Chuck was unaffected.

However, when he started to hear yelling and shots going off, he stood back up but he's still in a tired state, he wouldn't be able to run around very easily. He looks at the mob he saw earlier, some of them trying to cover their eyes while others are just swinging crazily with their weapons. Of course, the stun grenade effect eventually ran out and some of the mob regained their sight. One of them pointed at a man going up the ladder, they started to give chase until Chuck went in-front of them.

"Huh? the hell are you doing?!" one of the angry mob said, "This has gone on for far too long. I don't know why you're chasing that guy, but he's no longer your concern. I may be weakened, but I can still take out small fry like you guys." Chuck was hoping to distract the mob while Chuck's sudden new ally fights the big scythe man.

Nathaniel ran towards the stone building that the Brute had quite literally fallen into. To be completely honest, he had no idea what the hell he was doing, or how he was going to beat the big guy before he regained his sight. It wasn't exactly well heard of, a Pirate willingly helping a Marine, but it would bug Nathaniel if he were to simply have let him die. He therefore pressed on, looking in all directions for any source of inspiration. He dove through the hole in the wall created by the Brute and was immediately greeted by the strong aroma of perfume and cologne. It became apparent that this building was in fact a Fragrance Boutique of some sort. The place was clearly old and had probably been there since the early days of San Faldo. Within the now trashed room Nathaniel could see multiple shelves of perfume, an old fragile-looking flight of stairs, an old till sat on top of an oak-wood counter and a single large wooden pillar smack-bang in the centre of the room that led from the floor through the ceiling and, most likely, to the roof of the building. It was then that Nathaniel realised the only thing he couldn't see was the Brute himself.

Having looked around for a moment, Nathaniel had figured out that the Brute must have felt his way around the room and most likely made his way upstairs considering he was obviously not on the ground floor with Nathaniel. Slowly, Nathaniel walked towards the staircase, reaching in his coat pocket and pulling out one of his many Deck's of the Damned on the way

As he made his way to the first floor, he happened to look out of the window that overlooked that alleyway he had seen the shady bunch from before in. Below him he saw the Marine from earlier, it looked as though he was about to take on the thugs that hadn't been taken out by the tall man's rather rash decision to unload his pistol in all directions around him. Speaking of which, that very man suddenly waltzed past the window, clearly trying to escape the mess below, Nathaniel was about to open the window and tell him that this probably wasn't the best of building's to escape to when he heard a clatter behind him, he turned around to see the Brute stood at the top of the stairs, one hand holding his Scythe, the other still covering his face.

Nathaniel held his breath and took a single card out of his Deck. It was then that he realised exactly what he was facing, a blind man with plenty of power. Nathaniel immediately put away his cards and tried to think of something else he could do. After all, what use were illusions against a man that couldn't see...?

Nathaniel decided to retreat for now, to come up with a better plan from a safe distance. He was pretty sure the Brute hadn't noticed Nathaniel's presence yet, he still seemed to be clambering around in an attempt to figure out his surroundings. Nathaniel took a step down, and as luck would have it, the old staircase creaked loudly. Before Nathaniel could put too much thought into it, the Brute had lunged towards him, swinging his Scythe wildly.

Nathaniel barely avoided being dismembered and managed to make it back to the ground floor, where he hid behind the counter. The Brute followed with a grunt and suddenly stopped in his tracks, clearly listening out for Nathaniel.

Nathaniel decided to attempt to make a break for it, he would throw something in another direction to distract the Brute while he made his escape. He carefully reached forward and picked up a fancy looking bottle of perfume. He quickly chucked it over the counter in the direction of the front of store, expecting the Brute to simply move over to where the smashing sound had come from. Before Nathaniel had the chance to run, the Brute had already jumped forward towards the sound of the now broken perfume bottle and once again released a flurry of attacks, one of which managed to slice through the central pillar of the Fragrance Boutique.

For a moment, everything was still, as if nothing had happened. Then the noises started. The building started moaning as the walls began to crumble, the windows started to shatter under the weight of the now unsupported bricks laid on top of them, large cracks appeared in the plaster of the ceiling.

The building was coming down, right on top of Nathaniel.

While scaling the ladder the criminal briefly glanced down, only to find far too many angry eyes glaring back. Gulp, so much for that clean getaway... Stealth was tossed aside in favor of haste. The coward hurried up the creaking steps while the greedy mob closed in relentlessly. However, by a stroke of luck, that troublesome Marine from earlier actually stepped in to, well, do his job. If only he had known that by stopping the gang of obvious low-lives, he was helping one get away. The irony was rich. Not only would the mob and the Marine have their hands full with each other, whoever won would be far too worn down to continue the chase. Win-win, as they said.

Upon reaching the rooftop, the dishonest doctor was greeted by a lovely sight. An open escape route stretched into the distance before him, free of meddlers and traps. He could sprint over a couple of buildings, hop down at a random street corner and vanish into the city in no time. Or that was the plan. Actually Richard managed to swagger about halfway across when an ominous crash echoed from below. The whole roof shuddered. What the...? He nearly choked on his nervous realization. ...Nooo. Slowly the tiles started to dip downwards. Nonono. With a heavy rumble, all the footing collapsed. Not like thiiiiis! Accompanied by the mismatched melody of cracks, thuds and yelps, the flailing criminal fell into the darkness below.

As the dust finally started settling, the gentleman sat up with a weak groan. Being far sturdier than the lanky frame suggested he was quick to recover. Quietly lamenting his streak of terrible luck, he dusted his clothes. Brush, brush, brush... brush. And so on. ...a wasted effort honestly, but old habits tended to die hard. Fortunately, his poor clothes aside, he had managed to get out, eh, relatively unscathed. Just some bruises and nicks here and there. Nothing his concoctions couldn’t fix. See, his fall was broken by something fleshy, muscular and... oh. Oh no. Beneath him, the grumbling pile of violence was getting lively. And livid. Rolling aside, the rat barely moved in time to avoid an angry swipe, a rather universal command for 'get off me'.

Far be it from Richard to invade someone’s personal space. He gladly ducked behind some cover. Behind... uh... what seemed like the beaten remains of a counter mostly buried in bricks and dust? And he could’ve sworn there was some pungent cloud of scents floating in the air, trying to strangle the air from his lungs. What kind of shop had these people trashed anyway? Well... Thinking positively... It was clear that the angry crime boss hadn’t seen him. Somehow... Otherwise he would’ve probably been yelling his nickname from the top of his lungs, complete with bulging veins and flying spittle... And perhaps the doctor could even hope the angry mob outside, trapped in that narrow alley, had been flattened under a collapsing wall or something. Silver linings, see?

Without a second thought, Chuck started to fight the large amount of pirates that were now occupied with him. He activated his bladed boots then several already jumped straight ahead at Chuck, three men in particular jumped at Chuck and at the nick of time, he just dodged three cutlass slashes, he then quickly put his hands to the ground with his feet high in the air, doing a handstand, then spinning around with his legs spread out, hitting two of the three men with the bladed boots.

Then, about seven men charged straight ahead and tried to attack Chuck in a locked circle. From what is seen, Chuck wouldn't be able to run off anywhere but as they jumped and were about to slash Chuck, he splitted his upper half and quickly flew into the air. They all crashed on top of each other. Chuck's upper half flies to the top of this pile and starts splitting his hands really fast back and forth with the claws in front which started to stab all the pirates in the pile, Chuck's legs were affected but since this attack is comprised of a bladed weapon, he wasn't really being hurt due to his Chop-Chop fruit. He just performed the attack Bara-Bara Black Gattling

A few of them then got the idea that attacking close wouldn't work, so some of them brought out guns and quickly started firing at Chuck, which he managed to dodge and get behind cover. He splitted his upper half once again and started to fly around, the men kept trying to shoot Chuck but they were missing him and they just kept going into the air. Chuck then started to split his hands and start to cut up with his claws each gunsmen. One man managed to get a bullet in though into Chuck's left hand, which he felt the pain. But quickly cut off the man who did so before he did anything else, Chuck quickly returned his left hand to pull the bullet out.

He managed to do so successfully, but he wouldn't be using that hand so easily anymore. He went back out of cover and went to face the angry mob. There was 17 of them left, he was ready to go all out and start to fight them but then marines with guns in formations started to come from behind and to the sides of the remaining pirates, they were completely locked in, the pirates saw the situation they were in and dropped their weapons. One of the marines rushed to the Marine. "Rear-Admiral Newriss! we received reports of a fight that happened around a bar, when you went for that walk we only assumed you were in the middle of it." Chuck smiled, all though nobody would see it since he's wearing a mask. "Good job boys, and yeah, you assumed right. I seem to find the right kind of trouble whether I go, huh? anyway, lock the pirates away." the marine saluted, the squad started to put the pirates into handcuffs until the scythe-man that Chuck fought before broke out of the collapsed building. Chuck only then just realized the building fell down. "Oh shit! I was so focused on fighting that I didn't realize that building fell down..." the scythe-man constantly tried to rub his eyes but it seems like he could barely just see, he kept swinging his scythe around but in a completely tired state. "Where... are you... little shits..." then he sees barely just sees Chuck.

"Ohh! the marine! finally... I get to kill something." the scythe man starts running at Chuck but at a very slow pace... Chuck has saw people tired before, but he can't believe this is the same guy who managed to whack Chuck around like a ragdoll. Scythe man starts swinging at Chuck but very lazily, to the point Chuck just effortlessly dodges these slashes even in Chuck's current state. Chuck then clenches his fist and launches his right splitted hand towards the scythe-man's face, knocking him back, performing a Bara-Bara Punch the scythe man just barely stands on one leg, trying not to fall. He manages to get back his balance but starts going slowly again against Chuck, two marines grabs hold of the scythe-mans arms tightly then another one locks the man into cuffs. "What... the hell? is this really the same guy who beat the crap out of me?"

Nonetheless, it seemed like the problem was resolved. All the pirates were arrested and their leader was also arrested. "Take them away boys, I still need to look around a bit." and with that command given, all the marines walked away with the pirates in handcuffs, when there was no sight of them Chuck splitted his hands and started to move the debris of the collapsed building, in hopes to find his ally who saved him. "I hope he's okay, I owe him." Chuck thought, if he was indeed a pirate then he would like to know who he is, hopefully before Chuck's marines come back.

Nathaniel opened his eyes and sat up slowly, retrieving his top hat from the floor beside him as he did so. He rubbed his eyes and looked around. The building had completely collapsed, and, by some miracle, it appeared as though Nathaniel was completely unharmed. It was amazing when you thought about it. All that rubble; the stone; the wooden beams - not to mention all the glass bottles of perfume that were now smashed around where he sat, and yet not a scratch on him.

"Huh... Must be my lucky day..." he said aloud to no-one in particular. He wiped the dust off of the top of his top hat and placed it back onto his head. It was then that Nathaniel realised that the big guy could still be around, and that by now the effect of Stun Grenade had most likely worn off. Nathaniel didn't waste any time. He immediately jumped up and--

Pain. A lot of pain. As quick as he'd stood up, he was back on the floor again, now desperate to find out what had happened to him. He sat up once again and looked towards where the pain had originated from. What he saw was his right leg, bent in an awkward 'z' shape. It soon became obvious to Nathaniel that the bone must have completely snapped. He had been naïve, of course he couldn't have come out of that unscathed. Nathaniel had no idea what to do, so he did the only thing he could do, he called out for help.

"Excuse me?! I think I might need some help over here! Is there anybody there?!" he said, pushing through the pain. He heard a scuffling near the counter, and then from elsewhere within the now totalled building emerged the Brute... He clearly looked tired, and his vision seemed to still be slightly blurry from before. Ever so carefully, Nathaniel scuffled backwards, and held his breath. Luckily, the brute hadn't seemed to hear Nathaniel and simply wandered off outside. Hopefully Nathaniel wouldn't have to see him again.

The pain was excruciating now. A small pool of Blood had gathered around him and Nathaniel seemed to drift in and out of consciousness. Somewhere in the distance, he could see the dark figure of someone approaching.

Before Richard could find a window or a backdoor to slip through, someone called out. His curiosity led him through the shadows towards the voice, over to a younger lad steadily staining the floor red. At that rate, a slow death was more of a certainty than a possibility... Naturally, the good doctor knew the value of human life. Often down to a Berry. Granted, he was still very eager to flee, buuut... His nose twitched at the unmistakable scent of opportunity. This... was his business.

And business is good.

At last Lady Luck deigned to smile on the man of misfortune. For once. The largest problem in the ruined building wandered out, only to be swiftly dealt with judging by the violent sounds. Excellent. Now, it was true the criminal would rather not stick around when a presumable group of Marines was prowling so close. But his creeping greed had a different opinion. After all, he had done nothing wrong here, no sir. He was just another victim, a humble citizen caught up in an unfortunate mess between some pirates. And he had the confidence that he could convince just about anybody to think likewise... So, with that in mind...

A tone perhaps bit too chipper for the situation broke the pensive silence. "Ah, my friend, you don’t look so good." Carefully the rat stepped over the debris. He placed his suitcase aside and knelt down to idly observe the injuries. Seemed like... hm... lacerations, a couple of painfully obvious fractures and possibly some internal damage as well. Nothing he couldn’t fix. First things first though... Lifting his hat, the gentleman offered a polite greeting. "Cutty Flam, field medic for hire, nice to meet you." So easily the lies and half-truths flowed from his lips, without a hint of hesitation, as if he even believed them himself.

Not really waiting for the fellow to respond, if he even was in such condition, the doctor instead laid out a little deal. "Now, just for the low price of 500,000, paid in advance of course, I will save your life and heal you back to top condition." Some would argue that was a ridiculous sum, enough to buy a thousand servings of Takoyaki for instance. Richard, however, thought it only fitting considering what prices human slaves fetched these days. Besides, he was far more reasonable than most slave traders. "Guaranteed survival or double your money back. Not a bad deal, eh? What do you say?" He offered an encouraging, inviting hand, or so one might think. The only things his grasp would accept were cash and valuables.

Anything else... would be promptly dropped.

Chuck was still moving the debris slowly aside, but progress was very slow because his left hand was still injured from the bullet earlier, he tried a number of tactics such as trying to lift the small parts of the debris and chucking them with one splitted hand, but it didn't work very well. He tried a couple of methods such as kicking them aside but he wasn't physically strong enough for that. He tried nearly everything just to try and get the debris out of the way to try and find his ally, until he heard chatter on the other side of the collapsed building.

This could possibly be his ally from earlier who saved Chuck from certain death, he could've possibly needed help due to the collapse so Chuck wasted no time and went looking for the spot from where he heard the chatter, after a couple of seconds he managed to spot two people, one on the ground with a broken leg and a suited man crouched down with a suitcase, he ears dropped into their conversation and heard the suited man say "... 500,000, paid in advance of course, I will save your life and heal you back to top condition." Chuck thought it was a crazy amount of money, then again... he is picking on somebody who can barely just stand, from a business point it's smart, but from a social point it's messed up in Chuck's eyes.

"Guaranteed survival or double your money back. Not a bad deal, eh? What do you say?" it sounded like an okay deal, but Chuck did owe the injured man a favor, Chuck would've died if it wasn't for the guy, so he would try to help him out of this situation to get his leg fixed back up. Chuck walked up to the two, he then started talking to the suited man. "Now sir, I come with a counteroffer. You must be the Rat I kept hearing about throughout this whole scenario, right? here's the thing, I'm in command of the current marine presence on this island, and usually I'm meant to report in every pirate or suspicious character I see or who I think is in any of those categories, assuming that raging giant back there mentioned you, I'm assuming you have something to do with a "deal" or something? regardless, normally I would take such a character into custody and interrogate them... but..."

Chuck picks his next words carefully, he didn't really want to push it but he doesn't want to force this deal to go down, it could go badly depending on what he says next. "Here's what I offer, if you heal that man and bring him back up into top condition, I won't mention you in my reports or even send any marines after you, I'll make it like you were never on the island in the first place if you want. That'll give you enough time to escape, right?" Chuck knew what he was proposing was completely against marine protocol, but he couldn't really take his ally from earlier to a hospital if he indeed was a pirate, and Chuck could be discharged from the marines for pirate association if he was spotted or reported doing so. "This will completely be off the reports, books, whatever. I don't carry any valuables or any amount of money on me, but what I am proposing is very reasonable, right?'

Nathaniel couldn't really believe what it was he was hearing, he was literally bleeding out, and the two people nearby were bartering with his life. While he was thankful there was someone there for him, he couldn't help but wish it were literally anybody else.

A marine and a shifty looking crook weren't exactly Nathaniel's first choice for those that he had to leave his life in the hands of. All the same, Nathaniel was happy to see that they were alright.

(Only a short one this time, not got much for Nathaniel to do since he's pretty much dying at this point haha, I'll leave it to you two :P)

Much to the businessman’s immense dismay, someone just had to interrupt at the decisive moment. Lovely. Worse yet, he recognized that voice. And the mask, of course. Marine officers were so very efficient at their meddling, weren’t they? Admittedly -and unfortunately- the criminal wasn’t surprised the law hound had already caught wind of his identity. Some... colleagues... had considerable difficulties keeping their mouth shut, see. Yet his friendly visage didn’t waver, retaining that fake smile thorough the counter-offer.

Beneath that natural mask, however, dark thoughts bubbled in the imaginary flasks. On one hand, the rat had escaped from far more dangerous situations lately... This fellow was just one man, no? An injured man in an uncertain territory no less... However, at the same time, the offer had an enticing spin to it. If -and it was a big if- this deal was kept like promised, he could simply walk away with his loot. For once. Not to mention that killing this fellow would’ve been really bad for his bounty... The last thing he needed nowadays was more excuses for the government and their merry misfits to chase his tail.

"Hm, you drive a hard bargain, stranger..."

Though it was barely a couple of seconds, it felt like a small eternity. Until the Plague Rat nodded with a light sigh. "Very well. Consider this... a demonstration... of my talents. And in exchange, I’ll take your absolute secrecy." That was a demand worth elaborating. Just in case. "I was never here and what you’re about to see never happened. Even if certain parties insist otherwise." He had no doubts the gang leader would spill the beans, eventually, if only to drag others down with him. Having insurance against the inevitable betrayal was always handy. Right, that was enough negotiating. Time to get to work.

[Bandage]

Richard popped his suitcase open and dug out the necessary supplies. His hands moved so swiftly that to an untrained eye they were just a frantic blur. But each motion was well-practiced. A disgusting pair of cracking sounds rang out as the broken sections were violently straightened. Finesse was wholly unnecessary here. A few metal rods were placed alongside the leg and tied to place with bare minimum gauze. Within mere moments, the leg was set straight and the makeshift brace secured. The doctor offered his patient a cheery smile. "Now, my friend, you might want to brace yourself. This next part will be, well, breathtaking." Excruciating was such a nasty word after all.

[Recovery Serum]

Next, the dubious doctor revealed a strange syringe. Even in the dark, the green liquid inside seemed to glow softly, bubbling with ominous potency. In a single mercilessly efficient motion, Richard jabbed the needle directly into the wounded leg. Like pulse of green the mixture spread through the veins and vanished. The effects started immediately. With a snap, crackle and pop, the broken bone tissue started melding together, growing to fill what was missing. There was a sizzle, like flesh pressed against glowing steel, as the open wounds began to close. Granted, the rapid healing didn’t exactly feel as miraculous... Some sensations simply defied description. But molten metal searing through the body was a good comparison point.

And it was about to get much worse before getting any better.

From what the suited man said, it was clear he needed more specific details of how Chuck would ensure that the Rat's presence on the island would be discreet "Ah... the gang leader from before, I assume? don't worry, even if he does confess and mention you, I'll just brush it off. I'm the highest commanding marine officer on the island currently, so I'll make sure no marines go on a heroic mission to find the Rat or anything." and with that, it seems the suited man started on the operation already, Chuck looked away on some parts of the operation, as he doesn't like watching or see unnatural things happen to a body, live or dead.

Chuck knew what he said may not be very reassuring to the suited man, or maybe the very person he's trying to save, but he decided to reinforce his point. "Think of it like this, I went on a walk to find a drink at a bar, this whole scenario happens and I'm injured after one major fight with a pirate bigshot, I'm not looking forward to fighting another, or two... in that case, if he gets better." referring to the ally on the ground who saved Chuck's life earlier.

As the operation is still on-going, he decided to try and brighten up the patient's day by having a chat. "So... who are you? I'd like to know who saved my life earlier, I feel like I've seen you somewhere before." Chuck knew he probably wasn't going to get a response at all, but he is breaking marine protocol just to save his guy, so he'd like to know some form of information.
