Personality: A lover of all life, sapient or otherwise, Shale is often the first to refuse any options that involve death, whether for himself or anyone else. Being somewhat awkward, he tends to phrase things in ways that make them hard to understand for other people, even if the notion he's attempting to express is rather normal.
Not the bravest boy on the seas, Shale's first priority in a fight is his own survival along with the survival of others, victory comes second.
- History:
Born on the island of Spider Miles, Shale grew up surrounded with many varieties of disease and misfortune surrounding him, whether caused by the island's unsanitary environment or brought in by the occasional pirate crew passing by. Losing a friend or family member was normal, but naught could prepare the then teenaged boy for the arrival of a mysterious pirate crew bearing an eight-eyed jolly roger. Intent on a shopping trip they wouldn't have to pay for, the crew "bargained" by means of a disease from the Grand Line: They called it the "Blue Breeze" and with the brave defiance of a single shopkeeper, the breeze blew it's way through the town of Rusty Steps.
Decaying teeth, missing hair, skin shaded the coldest shade of blue, as if hit by the harshest of northern winds: That was the Blue Breeze. When it was all over, few remained in town, none of them children or elderly. Young and able men like Shale were indispensable during this trying time, fetching what little medicine they could from neighboring towns and providing as much care as they could to the sick, all in hopes the malady would cease. But it never would have had it not been for the coming of Captain Ninetynine of the Twin Snake Pirates.
Experts in plagues and battlefield medicine, the Twin Snakes saved as many as they could, asking for nothing but lodgings. "Why bother? You're pirates! You bring misery and death, no-- not hope!" A young townsman asked, catching the attention of the Captain, who responded with a bright smile: "Romance, lad. Every man and woman loves something, and my crew loves life, don't matter if it belongs to a saint or scumbag. And when you love something, you never, ever let it die. Understand, lad?"
Most found the notion strange, stupid even, but for one boy, it was made of words that clung to the heart. The pirates would leave, the disease would pass, but the captain's love of life would push Shale to travel the North Blue, begging doctors to take him as their apprentice. But they wouldn't accept him, thinking he was foolish to protect all life, no matter how vile.
All but one.
On Minion Island resided Dr. Olcoot, an old friend of Ninetynine's and no less of an idealist fool. It would be he who'd take Shale under his wing, and it would be he who'd spend 7 years turning him into a splendid doctor.

Heya Habit! Welcome to Revival Dawn officially! I'll be your evaluator for this thread, I just have a few things I would like fleshed out just a tad bit more.
Personality: For someone who survived something as traumatic as a wide spread disease at a such a young age, it'd like to hear more about how Shale faced adversity moving passed this incident, how it affected the personality to day who ended venturing to even practice in the medical field. Doesn't have to long winded, just a bit more incite to how he is in combat situations, and in regular life. Does he have any weird quirks or interests, outstanding personality traits, just something that'd give your future RP partners more flesh to go off of.
History: Nothing really stood out too too alarming to me here but it'd like a bit more to how he'd decided to defect to the marines, even after being inspired by a pirate in his youth? What made him drift that way? How did he make it to Minion Island from Spider Miles, just add more depth to the world, even if your saving the good stuff for in actual RP threads and story-lines. After that, you'll be ready to go!
